NPC with a shotgun. But not in the way you would expect.
I managed to save an NPC, and did a mission (kill a named regular Z) to make him happy. After two days of being happy that he didnât want to shoot my slimy, radioactive body, I decided to raid a home improvement store. I set the NPC to not use guns, and only use silent weapons.
The fight started well enough, and we killed about 30 zombies. But we were both rather injured, so I decided to pull back to my pickup truck, get the NPC a safe distance, and start butchering corpses, and getting clothing materials.
Mistake #1: Setting the NPC to âGuard this positionâ rather than âDo not engage unless your life depends on itâ
NPC switches to his double-barrel shotgun, spots a zombie in his âguardâ range, and since he is guarding, doesnât obey my orders to stick to silent weapons. I hear two loud BANGs, see two dead zombies, and decide to group up.
Mistake #2: Not immediately vacating the premises.
I donât know why, but I decided to make a stand. I figured that his high shotgun skill would be enough.
Mistake #3: Re-hiring him.
At the time, I thought it was a bug that he was using his shotgun. So I rehired him. This re-enabled his combat settings, and he switched to his best melee weapon ⊠his shotgun. I was still none the wiser.
Mistake #4: Choosing to use my .22 pea-shooter (forgotten the name, but it was the most pathetic gun I had seen that wasnât a BB gun or a nail gun), instead of my machete or martial arts.
I forgot that, with my skill, I did more damage with melee weapons than my gun, even at point blank range. I think I was wearing a duffel bag at the time, but I could have dropped it easily.
Mistake #5: Trying to run when the horde attacked me.
I had recently cauterized my wounds, and was at 70 pain. Obviously I couldnât run to save myself. So when the horde hit me, one of the zombies grabbed me, and I lacked the strength to move the one tile to the car controls.
