At least I think the crash relates to delivering a killing shot to a regular zombie. Never had crashes with shotgunning zombies before, regular or otherwise, not anywhere. I got this crash three times now in a short period, and each time the moment of crash happened when I had fired a shot with a shotgun at a zombie that was severely wounded or near dead. It doesn’t happen every time but three times now can’t be a coincidence… I’m doing fairly high damage, 140-180 damage if it’s a headshot, and I usually try to get just headshots. The gun is a pimped out Remington 870 with standard 00 shot ammo. Maybe something goes wrong with near-death state followed by a high-damage shot? Or with a second headshot to the same target?
My spawnrate is at 3.0, so that should give a hint how many zombies there are buzzing around… Also playing with ‘tough zombies’ enabled.
Another remote hunch I have is that when zombies break down a door or the door frame tile, the crash happens, because each time I had already shot a number of zombies, so I assume they get riled up from the noise and start thrashing the place, trying to get to the noise source. Each time it was a different mansion layout but at the same location because I had to reload…
Save and instructions on how to reproduce the crash would be useful.
4th crash, again upon firing a shotgun.
5th time I used an MP5 the entire time, doing 50-80 damage per shot. 20+ zombies killed, no crash.
I would love to give the save but I don’t have anywhere to upload it. Can’t be arsed to register.
Suggested reproduction steps:
- A character with at least 5 in shotguns, and a modified shotgun. Other firearms might work, too. Must be able to deliver at least 160 damage to a regular zombie, consistently, also maximizing the chance for headshots (i.e. close range).
- Teleport/travel into a mansion and start blasting zombies at 1-3 tile distance.
6th & 7th time: Spawned 49 zombies (7x7 square), multiple times. Shot them with M2010 ESR rifle. Did get a crash eventually, but later than with a shotgun. Damage was usually above 200. Repeated the test with similar results.
8th time: Spawned 49 zombies. Dispatched them no problem with an UMP45, doing 50-70 damage per hit. No crashes.
9th time: Back to shotgun and 00-shot. Got a crash at around 10th killed zombie…
All the guns used had more or less similar accessories, as the guns themselves accepted them. Holosight, muzzle break, ergo grip, forward grip, double magazine, waterproofing, brass catcher…
What if the problem is noise related? I mean the shotgun makes the loudest noise right? Then the M2010 rifle, then the SMGs. And I never used a suppressor.
OK, confirmed.
In Linux version, it prints “Floating point exception”.
I think it is related to shots performed at very high accuracy (ie. very low dispersion). I couldn’t get it to replicate at low skills, I had to buff the skills and mod the shotgun to be stupidly accurate for it to occur reliably.
Huh. Well then.
I tend to add anything on my guns to minimize recoil. Of course in the process the dispersion goes to zero, or it should go “below zero”, but it’s capped/bottomed at zero. Shotgun shot shell also has a dispersion of 0, making it the “most accurate round ever”, technically making the shotgun even more accurate than a sniper rifle. So yeah, it sort of makes sense now why the shotgun yielded the easiest crashes. I wonder if multiple gun attachments that attempt to lower dispersion below zero somehow disturb the operation, promoting a conflict?
The crash message I get is just a Windows standard “Stopped working, needs to close” message box.
My character isn’t even exactly a crack shot. Shotguns 5, Perception 10, Dexterity 12, 20 encumbrance on arms, 10 on eyes. But he does have the Targeting System CBM though…!
