What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

And the streak is over. After noting for who knows how long on how I never seem to find the H&K Railgun, I find one in a lab barracks.

Heck, not one, but freaking two of them, on different barracks on the same lab.

…now If I can find an Elephant gun (or ammo, not sure right now which one my survivor has found) I’ll be quite happy. And a faraday shark suit, and a moisture retention suit too. And razorclaw eggs. More honey balls would be nice as well. And a sword artifact because I’m curious if you can diamond coat those. A few more barrels of malt whiskey can be a nice addition as well.

Isn’t there a round drum mag for the 12mm rail gun. As a note it is more than likely impossible to do as it is a migration thing which requires a clearly defined item which a randomly generated artifact is not.

Doesn’t seem like it, checking debug.

Yes, this game has a problem somewhere in the random code - clustering is WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY too common.

(And before anyone even goes there, yes, I actually do have an statistical education, and I do understand that some clustering is normal in a truly random system. The problem is that clustering of items is RELIABLE in this game.)

Note: it’s possible this has been remedied - I haven’t updated in a few months.

Dunno if it’s changed or anything. For most part this is the first instance where I got a rare item twice in the same area… though that said, in lab barracks I often see a number of usual stuff; Sig 552s, an endless amount of Leadworks magazines, MP7s, that sorta stuff. Just rather surprising to find two railguns, at 0.6 item spawn no less.

So I just cleared a cathedral, which was pretty epic. It had a zombie master AND necromancer, which is a horrible combo. They had created a hulk and a large boomer to back them up, and the basement was crawling with about 20+ low-level Zs, who would have ruined my life had they come upstairs to join the master xD

Fortunately, I had been sleeping outside, setting up a load of planks outside the door to roast the big Zs (I spotted them before they spotted me, so I took my time.) As I slept, a team of fungaloids was growing rapidly outside, to the point that there were about 20-30 Fs swarming around outside. Normally, I would nip this sort of thing in the bud, but I figured they might come in handy, distracting some of the big Zs in the battle to come.

As bad luck would have it, the must have heard me walking around outside, and decided to start the battle before I was ready. He charged out, shortly followed by the necromancer and master. Well… thank god for the fungaloids. The hulk killed four of them, before being turned into a harmless fungal Z - just like that!

So it was time to take out the master and necro, which was actually very easy once they had left the confines of the cathedral. A quick clearout of the basement and I found…
A relic, surrounded by Blank Body corpses - creepy!

A human corpse surrounded by shotgun hulls, named Yuonne Wynn - is this a kickstarter backer feature?! S/he had some nice gear!
Aw, yeah, wasting the last of my collected hydrogen canisters to diamond coat… a barbed wire bat! I figure, it’ll be a long time before I get enough hydrogen canisters to diamond-coat an actually efficient weapon, so might as well splurge for now. I reckon a baseball bat with shiny diamond-coated barbed wire would look cool. I’d have preferred a nail bat, but it has piercing damage instead of cutting so it was a no-go with the CVD machine.

The cutting damage increase is pathetic, by the way. A reinforced, non-diamond coated barbed wire bat has 22 bash and 6 cut, and a diamond coated one has 22 bash and… 7 cut. Just a paltry +1 increase.

Still, rule of cool.

How’s your armor?
Don’t you think schools became overcrowded after they were jsonized?

Meh, they’ve always been pretty high population, and they have a tendency to be noisy enough to attract nearby Zs as well.

(Not NEARLY as bad as Home Improvement Super Stores, of course, but nothing else in the game is THAT ridiculous. Well, except the vault, but that’s a special case.)

Update on my struggling really bad day: there are such things as makeshift first aid?! Are you fucking kidding me?! I learn this now, 18 hours of infection later!?

e: ahahahahahahah nvm three hours later I learn improvised kits do not heal infections.

Currently in the process of emptying out a lob that literally has -194F temperature at the bottom. Had to make a full winter survivor getup plus a thermal electric outfit and line ALL of them with fur and wool and still need to use my internal climate control bionic. But then again it would probably help if the thermal electric outfit was actually turned on. At least the lab has a quantum solar panel and laser weapons.

Unfortunately they do not cure infections, only bleeding and general wounds. You can however always cauterize your wound should you have the tools, wait really bad day has you already infected nevermind.

I dunno. Home Improvement Super Stores don’t have that much zombies compared to the sea of undead children in a school, based on my experience. Basically had to use boxing which I stopped using after reaching 11 unarmed just to go through the area - so much bodies exploding from cross counter… there’s so much to the point that zombies were reviving in the middle of smashing through all the bodies, basically had to lob a couple of incendiary grenades to simply just cremate the bodies. With all the filthy clothing and tainted meat lying around, it was easy enough to turn most of the bodies to ash.

Like, here’s a screenshot of my survivor’s latest exploit with a school. Note that the piles of tainted meat further extends to the SE.

man this new mutant instead of cyborg preset sure has an interesting life, another artifact and something else on the second one.

edit: final: not bad, has some decent stuff.

also been messing around more with throwing, sack of marbles can be fun, then i find 5 throwing knives and sometimes i could take out zombies.

I saw a bandit camp where bandits and thugs wielded Glock and S&W. A group of zombies came, killed half of them, and died. I thought, I’d come back tomorrow, and the zombies would revive and take the other half.

Next morning, when I came back, I saw the zombies were all pulped! Clever bandits. I then burnt the camp and threw grenade at bandits who were dancing around putting out fire.

Traveling a world with a city size of 8 and city spacing of 8 and trying to get to the refugee center in a howitzer turned mobile base. The issue until now is that there was a huge ass river with no easy way to get a tank across without severe damage or turning it into a boat(again sad we cant make amphibious vehicles) So I finally found a bridge that actually cuts through the thick forests and am now just rollin along.

Fun thing with Pankration: it has an attack where it tosses an enemy up to three tiles away, while also stunning and downing them.

Even hulks.

Definitely thinking of starting again from scratch, on a tougher world.
I did it through year one with a Punk Rock Dude, in a world with slower zombies on and static spawns.
Managed to get a good enough grasp of the UI and pushed into midgame.
But i have a feel the world settings lack danger.
A Dude needs danger. A Dude needs !Fun! .

Using my test world, fiddled around with what can be diamond-coated with a CVD machine.

The most impractical? Broken robots. Not manhacks, as those are made of aluminum and plastic. Broken eye bots, riot bots… broken tank drones… if you can somehow lift and carry it to a CVD machine, not to mention the possibly massive amounts of hydrogen requirer to coat a monstrosity like that.

And certain diamond-coated weapons can’t get vorpal strike from killing a Jabberwock. However, the diamond coated broken eyebot can.
