What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

Ive been having a real dickens of a time finding books. No libraries, 1 bookstore full of crap, and no welders.

So Ive got level 3 mechanics and electronics, but no fucking welder. No way to make it, no nearby garages, and with .33 item spawns no real chance of finding this stuff I desperately need to move this gravy train along.

Im irritated. The new gateway is lack of books. I cant auto learn the welder, and so Im sitting with a decomposing military cargo truck full to the brim with various degrees of crap and no clear direction but ‘Find the suddenly super rare books’. Which isnt easy, since now Ive got to the point where Im at utter capacity, even on my person. Ive taken to making map notes of loots.

In the dark, I found a pair of milspec turrets. afte rplaying with them a little, baiting them into shooting the vehicle they spawn with, a sizable horde came by and ate them. This of course was when an npc decided to try to rob me, in the dark with a horde 2 feet from him and nowhere to hide. So when I told him to shove a fuzzy cactus up his backside he jumped on the trucks back and rode in the vehicle, firmly seated. I tried dislodging him with sudden stops and baiting zombies into the back too, but he had a bat and the skills to use it. I was even able to make 4 ammo pouches for mags without incurring his wrath. He was planted.
He got out randomly when I was checking out the swanky new public restrooms. I also noted that a firehouse was made of bricks. But - I also noticed that I couldnt raise the door to get in. bug? Probably.

I found a copy of under the hood, and all my woes are gone 5 or 6 days later. Oh sure, it was rough for the first day or three, but I have a purifier in, a chem set in, more storage, and all my guns in a row. I have 4 glcok mags, so guess what Im using? Ive al;so go a single barrel shotgun in reserve, but I know enough about those to know I wouldnt put my life on it.

I have a few black powder bombs in reserve, and found a few dynamite and c4 in crates. I have my signiture steel spear, and I even found the ice pick, which is rapidly becoming my favorite utilitarian weapon.

Im spending the day reading by a river close to the location of a hell spire. I spent the first ten days above the river trying in vain to find books. Not even under the hood. I fled below the river for the next few days, and after finding a remote mansion I finally got UTH.

Spending a week leveling up, fixing, and reorganizing, as well as some ‘foraging’ and crafting, I had a glock with several mags, a single barreled shotgun, some adequate armor, and an appreciable mixture of drugs. I was also sober, and spent the next time period above the river at a lab, clearing it (mostly). I have no torch to carve into the locked doors, but I did loot the place to get the standard loot, tons of chem books and fish serum. yuck. I dont mind the idea of fish but I prefer other critters to fish. Like lizard, spider, alpha, or medi.

I did get my map, and am leveling up some survival and shooting. Gonna go try to raid the spire tonight. I have set the game not to spawn the most outlandish things so early, but nothing is preventing them from showing up as bosses or rare site-specific critters. lost souls are a handful for a newer character, imps can overwhelm you with bullets in numbers, but demons are pushovers. Revenants not so much, and worse lies below.

I upgraded my SBshoti to a revolver. But, Im finding out that the SB is more mod-friendly than the revolver. dissapoint, but I really would need the firepower. One of the things I hope to test is the somewhat spotty item spawning Ive noticed. though Im not sure if its my lowered spawn rates or the game janking me around. Still.

Overall Im doing ‘fine’. Due to the extreme lack of books a lot of supplies I would otherwise be using or disassembling arent available or I need more grinding because the requisite skills level noticably slower. meh.

So, with a pimped out glock, 3 spare mags, a baretta and trench knife in my shoe, a revolver shotgun and 8 extra shells, a steel spear, and a ice pick I will brave the hell citadel and hopefully do better since they have been fighting the zombies nonstop instead of me teleporting over, waiting an hour, and going in.

Disregard libraries, find mansions.

I have to admit I, too, have had to deal with the lack of books. Biggest joke of all? The LMOE shelter I had holed up in, there was a mansion almost right next to it in the woods. It had camouflaged itself on the world map (green M’s among green F’s). I only noticed it about 15 minutes later after I had left the shelter behind, after spending days there, now driving on the road a world and a half away. Upon later return, it turned out to have all the books one could’ve asked for. Goddamnit.

I wouldn’t know about the lack of welders because I found 3 in the first garage I explored :stuck_out_tongue:

Today I learned to always take wolves seriously, especially when there are atleast five in the pack.

I have discovered the art of Bicycle Jousting. That is all.

forged diamond katana at ice lab
turned on random npc
got mission do kill jabberwock

“As the flames in the jabberwock’s eyes die out, your weapon seems to shine slighty brighter.”

diamond broadsword is betteeeeeeeeeeeer

i used arming sword, but it cant be coated in diamond

and thats right, broadsword is better, now i need to collect more hydrogen

OHSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT[/quote]Joke monsters, eh? Funnily enough, having them turned off limited my options when it came to challenges in the pantheon thread. That, and not wanting to debug in J9.

^ That’s the reason why I always have No Joke Monsters on.

Biggest joke of all? The LMOE shelter I had holed up in, there was a mansion almost right next to it in the woods. It had camouflaged itself on the world map (green M's among green F's).

Happened to me, too. If I had found that mansion two in-game weeks ago… I was right next to it…

Mansions are ninjas.

Took me 3 tries, 1 because I forgot I was wielding a shotgun revolver instead of a bayoneted SB shotgun, but I did it.

I went into the hell spire, sneaking past the vanguard of 3 moderately injured hell barons who were camped in a house south of it. I shot a pack of lost souls that illuminated my position, ran around a nearby bus, shotgunned a weakened revenant, Melee a pinky, and sneak by the lava at the entrance to get in while the fighting continued in its lessened state all around me. I saw so many imp bodies, so I think its time to reduce the population of the area? I do want to add a queen but lets take it 1 step at a time.

Inside, I acid bombed a pack of imps and used a blob container to eat a second one. The prison had 2 lost souls and a revenant, and NO ITEMS. The game is janking me, I dont know if I somehow screwed up the item lists or w.e.

Going down, a saw that the doom monsters all went into lava to play for some irritating reason. Sorry I assumed they would try not to melt themselves on molten rock.

In the boss room a single pinky was in the north section, the rest having been attacked by it, and a hell baron was wandering around the agan itemless southern part.

MEH. a statue spawned in the middle, and underneath the statue was a sinkhole, which I fell into and the baron closed on me. He plasmaed me, but when he closed I shotgunned him down.

Bang Bang, I shot you down
Bang Bang, you hit the ground
Bang Bang, those movies are overratted.

Here I was able to glock 2 lost souls, and when the revenant came by I hide until he got close, popped out of cover shottied him, and ducked back in. a few of those and this is the end result. I did try to run from the rocket, but if you shoot it down before it explodes it doesnt do all its damage, just a portion.
See how I was caught in 2x explosions? One is the rocket dying, the other is the rocket using its payload on its voluntary death. Killing it prevents the second, larger and more dangeous explosion.

I am not sure what to do with the Thriller here. On one hand he is annoying but on the other hand it provides me protection since it converts all kinds of zombies into harmless (relatively) zombie dancers which totally destroy everything in their way but won’t exactly pursue you…

What should I do, what should I do…

no idea man i would lure the thing in there somehow and set the building on fire

i just walked down the road from my public works shelter and found a really small town with 2 houses a grocery store and a public works so im thinking about moving there but idk zombies are clear anyway

I have a hard time picking a location for a safe house. I tend to leave most zombies unbutchered. Mostly those that wander to my base, which I have not decided on. Otherwise, acid zombies are nasty enough in the early game and some zombies are good for bionics.

If they get back up, I just knock them back down. Melee skills don’t grow in trees.

So i started playing cata again after awhile, i was just wondering, whats with the fire stations, do the winches not work anymore?

Well, never mind, decided to ram this sports car into the garage and was able to get in.

Oh those alternative ways to solve problems
Just reminded me one story from DF forum.
