Actually, no! Well, only a couple of times at low speed, or to stop drifting. I just realized I (subconsciously) stopped using it long ago because it resulted in drifting too many times. Besides, my cars often have enough acceleration/deceleration to make handbrakes unnecessary. Vehicle’s deceleration is directly tied to its acceleration.
There’s a hidden effect in handbrake check, though I’m not sure what exactly does it represent or if I understand it properly.
When vehicle’s last_turn is 0, it will never skid when braked. last_turn is set to 0 when the vehicle stops moving, it is set to turn angle (in degrees) every time you turn and moves towards 0 by 1 every time the vehicle moves a tile.
So basically, as long as you moved 15+ tiles since you last turned (fumbling, skidding and heavy collisions count as turning), the vehicle should never skid when you handbrake.
so turning plus handbrake then for proper drift/skid.
I found an intact, driveable atomic tank! But zombies ate the Solar Roller. So I think I’ll combine the best parts of both.
… O.o what? How did zombies get past all the turrets? did you overly deplete the batteries?
I left the turrets off overnight and slept further away, but not far away enough. Also, it’s literally impossible for me to get my batteries lower than about 98% because of my 18 quantum solar panels.
I lost my 168% full tank of water, which sucks, but I can’t even remember the last time I needed water. Making superglue, I think?
168% full tank? bug or special tank?
also
No need for water? Is that due to mutations/bionics?
Bug because it was full and then water tanks shrank, and I only need mycus berries to live. I literally cannot drink water.
I seem to only be able to eat the fruit, I can’t eat even the berries.
I haven’t tried, although an odd mishap landed me with Marloss Rejection, Marloss Carrier, Marloss Vector, and Mycus all at once. I got rid of Marloss Rejection with the debug menu because that sort of thing is very bad for my continued survival.
Its the last leg of spring.
To recap, Ive found nothing but a couple of small towns and a vault town where I came from; and all that was surrounded by the fog of war and very thick forests. I went south, skimming loot where I could, but I didnt have a steady weapon until I rescues a remington shotgun. Ive been through three cars; 1 to a moose, 1 to a survivor whose body had to get in the way of my engne block, and 1 to general zombies.
Ive been tracing the forest-encrusted river, and finally found two ways over. 1 is through a thick swamp to a lab. The lab showed me promise on the second path; and now I just cut off the road to a farm in the distance. I have 20 00 shells to my name, and now a few more guns thanks to a LMOE shelter. Ive been using a bruised aluminum bat most the game, 9-shotting triffids and 6-shotting zombies.
Now I have a M4 rfle (90 rounds, 2 mags), a shotgun with 26 rounds, a DB for my ride, and a leadworks revolver. I use a fire axe and a steel spear otherwise. My tailoring is finally up to 5, what a chore that was, and mechanics is even worse, as soldering does nothing for XPs. Still, I got my iron greaves and my ankle sheath and several kinds of scabbards I dont need because I use an axe and a spear. You know, axes are a great weapon in this game, or at least for the diversity of damage they do. Heavy, diverse, damage with some knockback. Good for many things.
Im missing the next level books, as have 3 electronics and 4 mechanics and 5 tailoring; the primary skills I use. I have 2 cooking, but Im in no hurry to level that up.
In other news, the triffids and the funguses continue to slam it out in the boonies, with me often getting involved. I keep forgetting that wolves can be fungused, and Im getting pissed at all the wolves instead of the sickened ones. See, the regular ones are ltgray, and the sick one dkgray. The triffids have the quality in the groupings, and the fungus have the numbers. Ive been fairly happy about the frequency at which the infected wildlife/survivors have been appearing, i.e. not that much but definitely. A deer ran deside my car as I sped down the road, even getting a smash or two off on the trunk of the car, the cheeky bugger. Eventually a triffid was close enough to attract its ire, and it exploded all over the triffid to infect it.
The flying ant queens work. When I came out of the aforementioned lab I saw a group of soldier ants. It took me a second to check the map and realize, oh hize, youre a yung queens new brood. The queen was run over by me, but not before trying to melt my car in a moment of defiance. Those ants can grow fairly fast, all things considered. And believe it or not I nerfed how often she tends to the eggs, not how often new ants come. In fact, sh was set to prioritize egg tending over moving, which I also ixnayed
Am wondering if I made funguses radius too wide. but otherwise Im more or less satisfied.
Some observations:
I found a small town with a refugee center north of it. I spent the night raiding 2 guns stores and traded with them. I guess some zombies saw me enter/leave, because overnight, while I slept/crafted some ammo pouches there was an awful racket inside.
Followed by the self-destruction of 3 NPCs as they tried to reload. Followed by more noises. Followed by a horde coming form the town. North of town is a fungal bloom. They had accumulated significant numbers of fungaloids, who got pissed at a pair of roadblock-turrets. The fungaloids overwhelmed the turrets by soaking all the bullets.
Following this, the nearly blind fungaloids were assaulted by a group of tough zombies and manglers who came from the river. 2 zombie lords and a group of hunters came form the south, and the weakened fungaloids were destroyed. But the zombies were decimated themselves.
Vanilla zombies convert to fungal zombies. Non-vanilla zoms will take damage from spores and die. The zombie lords and a single mangler were the survivors, all with heavy damage.
Im tempted to go assess the damage from the incident in the refugee center , but mah. I had no part in any of that damage.
This explodey npc bug has got to stop :\
I’ve got myself two former prisoners, a man and a woman. The man has two broken arms and a fungal infection. He’s dead soon. The woman is in fairly good health, she even has a rapier I made for her, but she too has a fungal infection. She won’t take the antifungals I tried to give her. Dammit, random Mycus mutations.
EDIT: I stopped in a small town to make myself a hypervelocity driver and my two companions vomited up so many spores that they started a huge fungal colony. Though this place isn’t big enough to make a Marloss Town.
EDIT2: I went to a nearby lab and zombies ate my companions while I was gone. They also ate part of my car. I’m going to make this vehicle a sight-blocking one as soon as possible.

A question about new world genning with your method.
-You take your [whatever you wish to keep] and put it in the tile you are in.
-You save the game and delete all the map data
-you move to a new tile and delete all the map data again
-Enjoy?
I tried smaller city size but I crave the cities. I need cities so big you cant see the center of them without a labmap.
Wow thats one strange bridge you got in your map.
Spring, day 24.
I used the last two days mostly for exploring. The restaurant guide revealed quite a lot of roads. I was intrigued by the roads to my east, but it turns out there’s a megastore at the end, so I turned back and went to sleep in the shelter. When I woke up, it was bright, so I decided to check how far out I can roam before seeing Zs.
Turns out the passage through the forest is completely safe in full daylight and the closest house which I had designated as a prospective base will indeed make a good base as there’s no Zs in sight range. I left the town via the northern road, as there were Zs further to the west, and ran into a couple of tough zombies happily smashing at a semi. I smashed them with a quarterstaff instead. Further north there’s a APC with a broken engine and then the road loops to the northern town. I tried to approach the northern town from the west, but there’s a Z soldier there (and a pharmacy!).
I went around and it seems I didn’t have to. I could loot two outlying houses in broad daylight with no trouble. One of them had a basement with a ton of electronics stuff, including plutonium cells and a book. Outside, in wreckage, an Internal UPS CBM sat. I grabbed them and decided to stick to my mapped path south, bypassing the rest of the town (the south end’s looted and the cathedral in the middle has mines next to it). Turns out the path’s completely safe in full daylight too.
The only downside to the day was getting back to the shelter and seeing the bear wandering around fairly close to my fire pit. I had to use a hotplate in the shelter. I wish I had more dodge skills.

Mostly, but does anyone know what gets stored in the “maps” folder?
Nowadays I just use that fancy new character/vehicle transfer utility.
EDIT: Next marloss man I find I’m spawning in an NPC and turning them into a post-thresh mycus mutant. Then I can have a friend that doesn’t die on me!
Neato.
I got rather impatient and started a new game in the new expi.
Still heads exploding, btw. Free ammo and weapons and clothing for me.
Ths character earned his guns. He traded for some basic meds (meds still underpriced, btw. My wine can buy most of the better ones) and found a gun store with a glock (no ammo, 1 mag) a vietnam sniper w/ammo, and a mossberg with 40 or so beanbags. He tried to maintain stealth, but was no shy about sharing ammo with the faces of dogs and runners. There was 1 gunstore in town and 2 electronics stores. He looted 1, and there was a huge boomer in it. ofc.
It boomered him, and in a stroke of luck he was able to get into an adjacent house window and burn it the frames until he had enough fatigue to runout of the room and house. It burned, of course, but he survived to find a badly beaten wagon.
Taking said wagon, our hero looted all of the sheets. The amount of sheets requred to level up has dramatically increased, it would seem. I can no longer complain about speed of XPing, although Im still a slow learner and I took ‘grumpy’ for even less morale. With less than half the XP it was acceptablly slow. Took me 2 days to get to level 3.
I left town as the sun rose, scouting for a better ride. I found a humvee with 3 wheels. That went as well as could have been expected, but I did shiphon it. Out of town to the west is a river, and I found 2 personell carriers on it. I transfered my sheets over and found a farm to the south. There, I juggled battery power, my almost non-existent diesel, and the wildlife/zombie spawns. Once I got the zeds out of th way with some fire, tbh, it was peacable enough. I had all the booze ever, a crapton of sheets, and nothing but my redlining body to keep me company. Oh yea. On the bridge there was a horde destrying an electric car after I throw a rock at it. I threw a molotov at them when an NPC got massacred (to take the things). That fell short, and a piped piper-ing happened. One of the Zs died on my side of the fire, and oc it spread to me, torching my health. I surivied though.
Ive got yellow legs, took a flu shot, and have been drinking like a rich little fishie. Ive got leather leggings, Ive got adequate clothing, and no batteries. Time to set off south. After, I think, I check the electornics stores 1 last time.
- Fungaloids like me.
- I like fungaloids.
- Fungaloids don’t bash cars.
- Once established, it’s near impossible to shift a fungal infestation.
- It takes some time to establish a fungal infestation.
- Once a fungal infestation is established, most threats have already been killed by yours truly.
- I can speed up a fungal infestation with infected NPCs or Mycus Sporogenesis.
- I don’t have either of those things.
Goddamnit, I want a fortified area where I can craft a shitload of steel rails!
EDIT: I cut out the middleman and set up shop next to a fungal spire. Every evening I go out and butcher all the zombie corpses.
XD cool
Couldn’t you just keep the solar rollers turrets on though?
