Anyways, the shoggoth I’m keeping as rock salt/junk disposal is causing a bit of trouble. Since it’s making noise, it’s luring small hordes to hang out exactly at the point above it. It’s one map tile southwest away from the garage. So far, there’s no damage, but I am thinking of moving the shoggoth to an area outside the reality bubble.
On the other hand, it’s more or less a good spot for the zeds to gather. For most part only as much as 20 show up, so they’re easily dispatched. Aside from the garage, the surroundings are open space so I won’t miss any zombies that might be hiding, and from killing them I get a regular supply of tainted meat/fat/bones any other possibly useful items.
Day 02. I awoke at midnight to find a completely vanilla Z horde around me. Running out of the house, I hid behind my bunkie, who was spraying 9mm ammo at the nearst zombies. Picking up the clothing of the horde, I only took off when it became apparent that dinner was served. Runing from house to house. Oddly enough, I have only seen regular zombies thus far, as I loot and raid around. I found some runners in the dark, and I split from town as soon as I found a car. The headlights broke too soon, and Im grounded at night.
I found the first ever dry mansion, and Ive been sober for approximately 12 hours now. I did find a small reserve of ale eventually, but by then I was more than happy to move on. My carry volume is only 50 right now, so Im trying to prioritize.
I found a teargas hack on a zombie soldier in a field, and debating holding onto it. Itll be an emergency aid right now, as I have no eye or mouth protection against teargas.
So, did they recently change it so that the world starts out with normal-ish zeds and mutates into the variations?
Hunh. What a weird feeling, to be surrounded by vanilla zombies in a burning building. I actually punched one out escaping. And no spitters or dogs or brutes!
I just found an entirely empty Fire Station with all the generic goodies inside! That includes most of/all a firefighter’s kitout, including their awesome belt, some filter masks, a jack, under the hood and the firefighter books, some food and water, and a completely operational firetruck w/cannons!
Happys. Especially since it is still the first morning.
I saw my first brute, although I suspect I saw a hulk in a forest. It was hard to tell, because of hallucinations. I was at a farm, and thought I saw it dissapear when I moved around. Hallucinated critters will remain in ‘view’ even if you block los. I havent tested it, but I bet you could put on a blindfold and youd know what was real because the real ones would dissapear.
But, hallucinated critters will destroy your vehicle. A C4hack just trashed my floodlight with its non-existent body. And then it dissappeared when I tried to exchange insurance information. Jerkass.
I raided a fema camp for a hacksaw, and was pleasantly suprised to actually find it, and my first brute. I malotived it despite the rain. I also molatived the guard post and shot a manhack with a sawed-off. My character isnt quite ready to take on a fema camp yet.
I got the shotgun from a would-be bandit. I drove up to him and shouted from my window. The dialouge went something like this:
-Howdy NPC!
-Drop your weapon!
-But Im driving?!
-Die Fucker!
pisskop tries to reverse the truck into the bandit to prevent windshield damage but due to low skill keeps missing.
-Im winning Fucktard!
-Le sigh, Im ramming you now that youve shot out my window.
Was fun. As fun as learning that using a welder as a soldering iron costs you 50 batteries plus whatever waste you generate. gdi.
Im trying to make a steel chain work as a weapon, but thus far its mostly just subpar to anything else. I hope skill makes this wraparound attack work and worth it.
Interesting. Tossed a fertilizer bomb inside a basement. Result, the house above received a few holes/open air tiles, and dropping items on that level dropped them to the basement. If I can harness that, I can set up a sort of item chute system on the base when it comes to big loads of items.
Dropping glass items seems perfectly safe, but dropping a wheelbarrow is not. Now gonna set a wheelbarrow under the spot where the items fall to see if the wheelbarrow will catch items.
Doesn’t work, items fall to the ground and not the wheelbarrow. Glass items aren’t as safe as I thought, and dropping the items produces noise.
Oh well. I suppose I’ll just stick to my current means of transferring items from the car to a z-level below: have two cargo dimension wheelbarrows, one above and one below. Drop all items; wear several high-volume clothing. Take all the items of one category to the cargo carrier above, like food for example. Then set the cargo dimension to the tile leading to stairs down. Haul all items to the inventory, go down and place them on the cargo dimension below and haul them to the appropriate storage. Might take multiple trips for one category due to weight limit.
Seems a bit long, but I can haul all the items from truck to storage space at 10k volume in 10 minutes or so.
Best way to deal with NPCs is if they’re still a good distance away, but still in range to talk to them. If you don’t have a gun, best to play it safe and avoid them as much as possible. If you have a gun, look at them via the item/monster viewer or the look command and see what they’re armed with.
If you want to talk to them, a distance of 20-23 tiles away should be ideal for most part. If they’re hostile, then you got some distance to shoot at them or run away. For shooting, you’d need at least a rifle for that, and you may have some trouble if they have a rifle of their own. Aside from that, that distance would be enough for them to be not in range if they got shotguns, handguns, submachine guns and other.
Anyways, considering turning the middle section of the Sluggernaut into something different. The middle section was supposed to hold a quantum solar panel, but since the vehicle can get by with upgraded reinforced solar panels, I’m thinking of turning that spot into a turret area instead.
Probably at least a canister at least, launching supernova canisters to pulp out hordes. I already built a draggable one in the base in case of a massive horde.
Feels like an eternity being on the road outside any urban areas. Been walking rollerskating back and forth to get a functioning vehicle and some supplies since I escaped. At least it’s a Sports Car. It’s unbelievable how far apart the cities are. My own damn fault for setting the max distance between them. …It’s kind of great though.
My lab escapee wanted to break back into the lab to fetch the NPC there, and to turn in a quest. The front doors were still closed since I escaped with a teleporter. I planned on using a removed 120mm tank cannon to blast back into the lab, probably dealing with the entryway turret in the process. Much to my bitter surprise at the lab, I notice the damn cannon requires LVL 8 mechanics to install, way above my skill and patience. Plan B. Install a single military composite ram on my fragile Sports Car and break the wall. The car is just going to have to endure it. One bump at 64km/h should do it.
CRASH
I… learn that lab walls are actually… two tiles thick. In for a penny, in for a pound. More ramming ensues. Three further hits later I am through. The car lost only one frame in the front, and now it looks like a giant red chipped tooth. Time to deal with the corridor turret. Peeking carefully, I spot the turret and land my only EMP grenade near it while staying out of sight. At this point my only other ranged weapon is a .45 pistol with JHP rounds… not much armor piercing capability. HA! The EMP deactivates the turret instead of making it blow up! I quickly disassemble the turret to get the Uzi and the ammo out of it. Turns out the 9mm isn’t any better at defeating armor. Ugh. Still, an Uzi is better than a semi-auto pistol at this point.
Now I’m just chilling outside the lab reading a ton of books and eating away my food stockpiles. Once done, I can hopefully fetch some decent gear out of the lab, some basic CBMs, hopefully get to the armory…
…No clue how I’d break into a lab armory. …Damn it.
Certain explosives can blow a hole in the floor below. I blew a crater in the ground 3 levels deep with something I found in a mine, I forget what it was called, but it was massive. You can climb out of holes as long as theres 2 or 3 walls and/or a piece of furniture handy. Use ‘<’ or ‘>’.
