What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

Much like the M27 IAR, the rotary carbine is proving to be quite the zombie killer, though I suppose it’s more like the pneumatic assault rifle. Zombies from all directions tried to move in close, but all of them died without touching my survivor. Had to switch to the IAR though for long distance shooting against necromancers.

I encountered my first real-game Wrestler Brute today. But before that its almost autumn, marking my 55th day alive with this character. I spent the last week and a half unloadng my truck into the warehouse in very general piles. I built a welder and a hauler, and read up on my computers and electronics. I cooked the fruit that was going rotten, and lost most of it and the plant marrow from before. Oh wells. I still have over 100 ant eggs and several nonperishables. My health was such that I was waking up readily and happily, and with the fast reader trait and a good set of tunes I even ventured into ‘To Cook Man’ some. I need some metal to craft some decorative display racks and lockers, and Im planning on adding a semi-outdoor forgery area. Im shocked at the floor layout of the warehouse insofar as there was a toilet in the same room as the manager’s desk in the same room as a sofa for guests in the same room as bookshelves. :expressionless: Eww.

Ive taken to dumping my compostables into the river. I havent gotten to cleaning up the few stragglers that have wandered my way, but its a lot more peaceful here than at the maintainance area. I found a mini-reactor somewhere and made sure to mark it down, so Ill probs be using that when I decide that its too annoying to keep my isle lights on or shuffle in and out seperate mounted floodlights and batteries.

After all that I decided to focus on books over everthing else.
Crossing over the river to raid a bookstore for a specific book I not only found it but had spare time on my hands. I was 0200 and I was parked on a bridge some tiles away. I usually carry a rucksack on my person, so that the 60-90 clothing storage I have can be expanded into 180. So I looked around and found a hatchback with a crappy battery but still in working condition.
Taking the batteries out of my mp3 player, I started it up and rammed into a gunstore. I tried to move it to the other side of the street to ram into an adjacent gunstore, but in the alley I got stopped by a small horde. And wouldn’t you know it but the hatchback has the interia of a wet cloth.
Stopping me in my tracks, I get out and kill the horde. My main weapon is a steel spear, and I learned some twquando and had a grappling hook for reserve.

Driving to the other side, I rammed into the store to no result. I reverse an tried again. The car sputtered angrilly at 40 kmh, threatening to blow its gaskets. I failed to damage my way in once more, and on the reverse I ran into a small horde, 2 hunters, some fatties and kids, a brute and a weirdly colored one. The Wrestling Brute.

The wrestler seems to prefer to grab you from afar, drag you, trip you, and then toss you in no particular order. I let him bite on occassion too and Im sure he did that. He brutally stipped me of my messanger bad and my back holster, he crushed my helmet, and even damaged a waterskin. Somehow he left the duter intact though, but I only have 40 space now. And 2 gunstores worth of ammo that I cant haul back. And a dmaged torso and left arm. I would like to imagine he ben my steel spear into its present |\ condition too.

His health might be too high? I made it lower than a shocker brute, but oc almost every zom has lower health than a shocker bute. A regular brute has 120 health, for example, and the shocker brute 300

pedit: The book I went out for, Robotics and you or w.e. its called, isnt being found in the truck. I also cant find my binoculars, amoung other things. Im suspecting it fell out of the inventory when the wrestler attacked. Which is a shame because I went back for the binoculars and couldn’t find them. Which suggests acid or fire -_-

Acid doesn’t destroy items anymore (in experimental).

Day 85. Found another main battle tank! Snagged the ordnance and ammunition, then went wild with diesel tanks and doubled my capacity. Up to eight tanks, from four. Now sitting at 68% of that. Since my last post, I’ve found and been able to install Thermal Dissipation, Time Dilation, Remote Controller, and Air Filtration System. Oh, and a ton of Power Storage CBMs. Up to 4410 power. Still haven’t found drive by wire controls or their recipe book, and I’ve been looking since day one. Hopefully soon. Actually starting to run out of storage space, too. Going to start hunting for labs soon.

Since I’m able to craft CBM’s now, I should’ve saved those burnt out bionics.

On a side note, my rifles is now 10, marksman is 8 I believe. Melee and cutting weapons are also a 10 but dodging is 7-8.

The world is real nice too, thinking I should port the game over to a newer version.

Edit: I’ve also been thinking about climbing harnesses, grappling hooks and long ropes, if Z levels are enabled you could rappel down a level or climb up one on the outside of a building like an apartment tower or office building, allowing you to ‘float’ on an open air space.

It may be a little too complicated to do the above, so maybe being able to climb up and rappel down buildings would be cool enough. Bypass zombies on floors or as a semi quick way to get away from hordes.

Started a mutant dude with unstable genetics on a tough world (2xspawn, double zed hp)
Mutated Disintegration
Not enough HP to fight zeds. I’m slowly dying. I need bandages and thyme oil to hold my body together, because I lose more hp than I regain from sleep.

Ouch. Robust Genetics is your friend. ;w;

I recommend chugging mutagen or sewer brew and/or hanging out at a toxic waste dump. (no, seriously- odds of rolling something that counters a trait that high in the chains are actually fairly high- spin the wheel-o-genetics enough times and you’ll ditch it without having to sissy out with purifier.)

Or category-specific mutagens. Which categories specifically hold traits that counteract the wasting mutation series?

Day 86. Well, I finally found drive by wire controls. Unfortunately, it just confirms for me that remote control single actions are broken, and vehicles with robot controls cannot be controlled at all. On the up side, the drive by wire controls work just fine. Even better, though, is that I raided a bank and hit the jackpot. A set of heavy power armor, a Teleportation Unit (and Probability Travel, but I had that already) successfully installed, a couple of advanced UPS, two flasks of purifier, a goo canister, and some silver. I’m extremely pleased.

It’s a challenge. With robust, it would be easier than the default survivor.
Unstable keeps things interesting.

I don’t have any mutagen or sewer nearby and can’t get any (because zed hordes cover all interesting places - one of the hordes even has a fucking grenadier), but that waste dump idea could work. There is a nearby waste dump (which I used as water source early on - it has few sewage tiles) where I could un-mutate. Or mutate something that will kill me, like wakeful or slow healer.

Ah right. Does make sense. Definitely a pleasant surprise to see you posting about adventures on here. o3o

And when all else fails, there’s always savescumming. Okay, actually I don’t savescum with Unstable Genetics that often, because more often than not I fail to notice a mutation occurring while just out and about and by then I’ve likely already saved.

I only savescum when debugging or when the game bugs out on me hard (for example, crashes). Not-dying when dead ruins the game for me.

I tried the radiation therapy. Unfortunately due to a bug (one I caused - mixed up min with max), currently radiation is reset to 0 every 5 minutes, making radiation therapy quite hard to perform.

True. It’s a bad habit.

And…huh, odd. o.O

A grenadier just nuked a bear. More specifically it teargassed me and I ran like a bitch and the c4hack nuked the bear. I found like 5 hulks in the town up north, and while I was cooking rice for my foree into a prison a horde spawned to try to jailbreak their zombie bretheren. I noped out of there.

That moment when you realize Elite Grenadiers can throw NUKEHACKS at you. I once entered a military outpost to find myself staring down an Elite Grenadier, with only my precious Arc Cannon to keep me company. He was able to shrug it off pretty easily for several turns straight, but I was pretty much shitting bricks when a NUKEHACK got within 2 tiles of me before succumbing to the cloud of lightning.

Ran out of bullets for the rotary carbine, and now switched to the H&K MP5. Surprisingly have more 9mm ammo than .22.

Added a few more mods into the MP5, and it now has increased burst, no recoil, and dispersion is only from the ammo. Very strong, though it lacks armor pierce for tougher foes. Still a zombie killer. It doesn’t have the ammo capacity of the carbine, so I end up reloading often, but it’s a killer.

Also found a nice fishing spot. A river next to a swamp. Not a lot of swamp creatures, and all the fish seem to have spawned in the pools of the swamp, making them easy to catch. All I gotta do is walk up to them, take a picture if they’re a fish I haven’t seen yet, then tazer them to death.

What does taking a picture do for you? I’ve got a few cameras lying aro0und I never found a use for. I’ve just been stealing the batteries and tossing them.

Day 91. I’ve officially survived spring. Through practical experience, I’ve discovered that my Artificial Night Generator works wonderfully in conjunction with my Infrared Vision CBM. Discovered an Internal UPS and a Chain Lightning CBM off of a shocker brute. Pretty eager to test them both, but I’m hoping to discover a Power Armor Interface (hopefully Mk. II).

Ran into a horde of corrosive zombies, with a master, a brute, two feral hunters, two necromancers, and assorted popcorn. That was unpleasant. They caught me in the open away from the ATCOH, and every time I killed one, it got right back up again, since the necromancers were too widely separated to kill consecutively. Took me entirely too long to realize that I didn’t have my armor engaged, and that nearly got me killed. Of course, it didn’t help that my power got entirely depleted beforehand, either. Fortunately, I remembered in time and was able to fight my way back to my ride, after which I ran them over with malicious glee. My throat is raw now from all the shouting and growling I did. >_>;

What does taking a picture do? Simple. Lets you respect the ‘pics or it didn’t happen’ rule. Can’t take group shots yet, sadly, but you keep a record of monsters you encounter. It also lets you read their full descriptions, since they’re usually too long to be viewed from the normal display in their entirety. Of course, they’re best used in conjunction with E-Ink Tablets.
