What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

So, I fucking spawned in a shelter and decided to go to the basement to get more stuff only to have a surprise rift fucking my shit up.
Oh well.

New Character for the Latest update last night.

I died a bunch prior to this guy, mostly dead before I left my starting house or ramroded before I got a block away. The cold is brutal. The zombies are brutal. For a starting character who every tick counts fighting a zombie dog in the cold dark is dangerous to ones health and ones core body temperature. A fire kills them in 1-2 turns, but oc a fire lets all the other zoms know where you are, with the inverse being untrue.

So this guy gets out of this house, finds and loots the corpses that approached his buddy after the fire died down, and found aworking car that was leaking gas and he didnt notice. That copped out and he triggered the alarm as he ran out. He found more crap and a second car, this one working. At 5am he was looting houses on the outskirts of town and processing the clothing for rags and thread when he saw a wasp house by a blob pit. The blobs were cleaning the wasps, and he crafted a nailbat to explore it, reasoning that if nothing else they were meat.

Inside he found several blobs and a keg of explosive. Well, he had to try to get it. And he did. Taking 100 blobs of various sizes to their grave, our hero put the keg into the truck. It weighed almost as much as him! As he drove off the bodies of the slime damaged the gas line of this car, and when he parked it to organize himself for a day of crafting he found out his gas was leaking. He grabbed some food and the rest of his drinks and ran to a nearby house. There he cracked a glowstick and started to craft.

As night came he moved on, finding a flatbed. He turned down a working military humvee he found but took a gun, and, out of booze, went to a mansion. While in the mansion he refrained from drink while he explored in case the mansioned turned out to be zombie-sparse, and because it was he detoxed there, sewing holes into spare clothing and soldering chunks of steel together with zero focus.

I found a public works station with an ant mound near enough that I cant yet see it on the map but the place is swarming with ants.

There are also 2 turrets parked 64 tiles away on the road into the hamlet I cant yet gauge the size of. May stay. Its relatively safe from zoms, the ants are food (and Im their food, so symbiotic relationship :> ), and my very first successful base was a public works station. More zombears broke in than zombies back then . . .

This would make a good Junji Ito story. “The Basement that Never Was”.

So, I’m playing a broken cyborg, and the lab I spawned in is the most boring I’ve ever seen - 5 levels of 3x3. No barracks, no prisoner containment, only 2 CBM room (and 1 of those was empty, the other had almost nothing), a very few observation rooms… mostly turrets, blobs, chemical room, dissector rooms, and bedrooms. Wow, nothing going on there.

I did manage to find a teleporter and escape. I hung out around the forest, and checked just the edge of town… found a light tank in decent shape… no engines, but otherwise OK. Can’t get to a store with a shopping cart, can’t get to a garage. Hm.

Skirted around the city to the north, found a school! Cleaned out the library at night… and found another school just past that! Now I’ve dragged most of the books back to the lab (trips with a duffel bag…), and I maxed out electronics (10), first aid (8) and mechanics (8)… then I crafted almost 100 bandages in the local swamp, THEN, late summer and I’m not regaining health when I sleep anymore, I make a few first aid kits, take 2 adderall, and try removing broken bionics.

BAM, 6 bionics out in a row (at 29% chance of failure). WOW, life is so much better. No more acidic discharge or other unhealthy brionic (forget the name of that one), no more noisemaker or squeeky ankles so the zombies can auto-find me in the dark, no more bionic nostril, so I can actually run and/or fight, no more wire-induced stiffness, so I lose 10 encumbrance on my torso.

WOW, that helped. Now it’s late autumn, I’ve been killing swamp creatures and making jerky out of them to get ready for winter (I’ve got 480 - think that’ll be enough? hope so, since there aren’t any anthills or triffid groves in sight), I made an electric jackhammer to get back into the lab, I’ve just finished decking myself out in full survival gear, I got a Leukocyte Breeder CBM from zombie scientist I killed and butchered (first active bionic I installed) and I’m actually healing when I sleep… which is good, since I’ve failed 6 of the last 7 bionic removal attempts (ouch).

I still don’t have a welder or Internal Toolset CBM, and makeshift welders go through batteries pretty quick, so since I’m short on batteries at the moment… yeah, not making use of that electric sports car I found nearby, or any of the other useful vehicles… but I did find a jack (in the very first car I found, no less!!), so I can start on that soon (hopefully).

I found another lab right near the edge of my (lab-mapped) vision, so I’m going to try that one next. Here’s hoping it has some useful CBMs - I’ve got 8 computer skill, so I can definitely open those! Or even some interesting mutugen books… the lab I started in was DULL in that regard, too. An atomic light (or the book to make them) would be welcome as well.

Day 70. The ATCOH’s fully armored and tracked. Discovered firsthand why diesel is the way to go. Went from a nice fleet-footed 5-tonner to a few fingers past 15 and a half. Fortunately, after some hunting around, I’ve got no shortage of V8s to play with thanks to some very convenient wreckage. Converted it back to diesel and tacked on a couple more fuel tanks. Just need to get Mechanics up by one more level and I’ll be able to get that third engine put in. Until then, I’ll be chugging along at a still-respectable 38 miles per hour, which is about right, actually. Almost right on the nose for a main battle tank. Speaking of which, that wreckage netted me a 30mm chaingun, with a fair bit of ammo besides. Also had an ATGM turret, but that was sadly completely wrecked. Still pulled its ammo out, though. Already had a couple that I picked up from a bunker. I’m starting to get the feeling that I’m approaching the lower threshold of more dakka. Still very heavily considering that flamethrower turret. It would certainly be a good use for all the gasoline I’ve accumulated.

I kinda forgot for a moment that in summer you can harvest fruits, so I spent a few minutes gathering tons of fruits and seeds and storing them in my lab. Unfortunately it isn’t an ice lab so I’ll have to figure out a way to preserve them; Though I do have an idea but it requires a vortex engine, a car battery and a mini fridge.

Also butchered a zombie scientist and got joint torsion ratchet, power storage, nictating membrane, and from a bionic room I got ethanol burner and another CBM I don’t remember the name of.

Hacked a computer and entered a armory, of which the second door I couldn’t hack through so I had to use the dynamite I made a few days ago to get through. (I had around 20 bundles of dynamite)

Anyhow, it was an eventful 30 minutes.

Finally got started on the post horde cleanup. It is gonna take a long ass time but at least i have a plan now. Stockpiling the food guns and tools, cutting up all the clothes until i have a nice stockpile of rags and patches and then burning the rest, and turning all the bones into superglue. Also got my field fully planted with a shitload of different crops and started furnishing my NPC base with various crafting rooms and such. Next step will be to tear apart the bedroom and make several small bunks.

Also it is now getting warmer. For the cold I used a leather duster and pants with a kevlar vest but it is starting to get too hot. What is a good getup for the hot season? I was thinking kevlar vest with metal arm guards, cargo shorts with hard plastic leg guards, and then my usual gloves boots and whatever. Character is ectothermic so i would like to be able to take full advantage of the speed increase from higher temperature so i need to remove the “Hot” slowdown

Well guys, I got that sleeping problem fixed

Chug! Chug! Chug!

I wonder what happens if I do a kegstand and drink 79 units of atomic coffee in one go…

Assuming that constables that get puked back up can still alter your stim value…

Imagine a world where sleep is obsolete! As a chronic in-game and irl insomniac I approve.

Had a lab run go really well for a change! Depressing because an error killed my game and I don’t use autosave (might change that hue hue).
Using just a regular survivor I was able to get to the top floor and was headed back down to figure out a way past the front door turret when it died. I had found a butcher knife and was hacking zombies up like no tomorrow and had leveled dodge up 2 times and had found a couple of human corpses that I was gonna filet if I started to get hungry (I just assumed that taking psychopath without cannibal would just take away the negative penalties without the cannibal bonus, haven’t tried it yet).
So now I’m just hanging out waiting on replies to see if I should download a newer experimental version of the game or if there is something to do to fix this one.

Found and tamed a cat. How do I make it stay in an area? Can I use a rope to leash itlike a dog? Or will doors keep it in place? Planning on building a log cabin, just wondering on how to cat-proof it :stuck_out_tongue:

I assume with whistle like dog… but thats probably just me assing it up.

Quick saved, debugged in dog whistle(don’t think normal whistle has properties like the dog one), no message about the cat becoming passive.

You know how in the Fallout universe (at least before Bethesda owned it) there were no cats?

Well this is why :stuck_out_tongue:

XD

but cute kitties keeping my fox mutant company :v

channeling my inner cat lady and all that :stuck_out_tongue:

hooray for foxxy mutants!
