What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?
Hrmmm, for most part it seems that it’s just as effective to use the mini-flamethrower three times to get a raging fire going, and afterwards just let the fire do its thing, though the fusion gun is effective at wiping out small blobs since they’re all clustered together.

Wondering now if I can stop blob spawn by just eliminating a certain depth instead of going all the way down. It’s just the first slime pit, three levels down, and there’s two more separate pits to go and this is just utter tedium.
Let me guess, z-levels? If it weren’t for that, you could just clear the surface and wall the entry off for good measure.

EDIT: Well, might as well start reloading my magic items the hard way.

EDIT 2: Blood for the blood god! Skulls for the skull throne!

Z-levels, indeed. I’m tapping out for now on this blob extermination - too much crap to burn and I wanna go explore elsewhere. On the first town the sewers connect to another city up north, and thankfully there’s no slime pits there.

Clearly you should be burning a spirit of fire instead. o3o

In a way, it’s worse than the Mycus in terms of lag and mobs. At least the spores aren’t several Z-levels deep, and while in a slime pit it’s just one giant target to burn, the lag from waiting while there’s more blobs being generated thanks to the other levels below is real time consuming.

Getting lots and lots of meat now. Chunks of meat from spider basements, fish fillet and chunks of fat from seweranhas.

Winter will probably be a boring season filled with nothing but crafting tainted meat for several kegs of mutagen. On the other hand, I can probably rig up a minireactor powered crafting/cooking area for the ice lab level so I can do some crafting when summer hits.

&^%^

I had found a flask of mutagen in the sewers, but then got lost and reloaded. Only to find I’d saved before descending into the sewers!!!

Argh.

Have begun my exploration of the pump station. Tunneled from the west side of the town beside the pump station town, and through sheer luck I tunneled right into the area that leads further down. Will nab the items in this area first, then bring parts for a cargo carrier wheelbarrow to bring below.

Currently using three rifles. The M4A1 is the middle ground weapon, the SKS as the default as it has the weakest ammo and the most abundant, and the FN FAL for the heavy hitting shots. They have to share three mods though, the sniper conversion, gyroscopic stabilizer, and tuned mechanism since I only got one of each - though the SKS doesn’t have slots for the latter two.

Switched from SKS to Beretta ARX-160. Unmodded, has recoil unlike the SKS, but rendered moot thanks to all the mods. Has a better damage bonus and far more ammo capacity so it wins out.

Brought the parts for a cargo carrier wheelbarrow, and now it’s time to venture into the stairs below the pump station. Already know what down there, and I’m gonna shoot everything until lag is no longer present in the area.

Well, this more or less explains the lag in the pump station area.

Note that this is the second map tile I entered in the vault below the sewers.

For most part, I can one-hit kill most of the wanderers, and the ARX should have enough bullets to do so. Main tactic right now is to stick to the doorway to prevent them from surrounding my survivor. Chain lightning isn’t as effective as it seems to try to travel down z-levels from the looks of it, instead of chaining up the horde.

On the bright side, these bastards melt away, so no butchering needed.
So many wanderers to the point that the chicken walkers must have ran out of ammo shooting at them. I’m just sniping them from a distance now.

One of the three main rifles for the bots, and burst fire spam with the laser rifle against the wanderers.
MOAR EXPLOSIVES

Hrmmmmm. Hrm. It seems I am too late. The team under there has been overtaken… or they may have spawned in a corridor instead of a sealed room instead.

Either way, if it’s the former it’s kind of an impossible situation. Spawn rate is only 3.5, and the area is just bogged down by so much of the same enemies that it feels like spam. Like, how would it even be possible to reach the NPCs on time when every corridor is pretty much clogged with enemies? The structure of the area just doesn’t seem suitable to match with an increased spawn rate.

Clearly your only hope is to somehow get a tank down there. o3o

I like unstable Z-level rendering but holy shit it makes certain areas unplayable. The sheer volume of those fuckers makes my game crash if i move too fast on the surface, not to mention the massive spam of noise icons making it so i cannot see important shit like corpses i need to butcher or important items. I think some sort of abstraction system is needed to prevent multi Z rendering from making certain areas unplayable

Even after all these years, Moose still scare me.

You can’t stop The Moosening.

Yep. The vault and slime pits are particularly nasty, especially the latter as it’s often ten levels deep. To a lesser extent, labs suffer a little too, in the loot room the security bots often explode near the loot, destroying some in the process.

Found manuals for krav maga and ninjutsu on the barracks area. After that, it’s back to spamming the laser rifle. Encountered a second squad, and got one mission from an NPC, but the other set of missions is from the other squad, who’s dead. There’s two more pump station towns in the visible map, but I reckon it would be a long time before I step back into that lag fest.

In general, the place is a nightmare for looting. It’s a big place, but it lacks opens space which causes every enemy to be packed in - and with spawn rates higher than default it becomes utter chaos. Aside from lag, nearly all the control levers to open doors is destroyed. While they don’t leave corpses, and only drop one item, the loot dropped from the enemies pile up everywhere, and due to all the furniture being destroyed it’s almost hard to tell which one has interesting loot or just a pile of splintered wood or pipes.

By the time I cleared out enough areas to the point where the game speeds up close to normal, motivation to sort through all the chaos is lost, and I’m content to not look anywhere else and just get out with the stuff I already have.

It’s a cool place, but any change to spawn rate really hurts any enjoyment that could be acquired exploring the place.

Day 31, morning.

I ventured into the sewers, got a flask of mutagen (again, but it took some savescumming), a gun and some ammo in the process (there were bodies in the subway, and a Z soldier). Best of all, the Z soldier had a Radiation Scrubber CBM. I exited the way I came since it was the next day when I got out, and walked back to the shelter where I ate, drank, slept, unpacked the loot and miraculously, managed to install the CBM.

Time to try mutation roulette!
