What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

Ported save over to newest version. I now shifted my watch to my right hand, and my sheath to my left side. Swiggity swooty.

EDIT: Got my van all fixed up, my skills up, and took the skull back to Ragnar. Er, the NPC, not the player character also named Ragnar. And bugger, he has a cold. Since when can NPCs catch a cold? D:
Since I was getting bored of the ‘‘Deathmobile’’ playstyle, I decided that my current survivor would have a permanent base and basically forbid myself from making a rolling fortress of doom. I fortified and pimped out a Public Works with all the possible amenities. Complete solar rig with all the crafting stations, solar floodlights around the base, storage areas and a future farming area. Plus it’s really close to the necropolis when I feel like doing that.

I’m playing on 92 day seasons and autumn started. I’m preparing for the first winter but I’m not really scared. I’m sitting on 15k units of powdered eggs, 800 units of dehydrated meat, multiple water tank rigs filled to the brim and 2 full barrels of single malt whiskey. Bring it on winter.

I’m limiting my vehicles to my raidbike. 4 tiles long, 1 wide. 2 cargo spaces and diesel + gasoline engines. I’m exploring farther and farther out from my base, sometime gone for a week but I always come back to my comfortable abode. Just recently went to a lab with a CVD machine to make a diamond broadsword. I decided to forbid myself from using a diamond katana and niten ichi-ryu because it’s crazy overpowered.
Static or dynamic spawn or both? I’ve tried getting fairly large bases going in dynamic but it always ends up going to shit past a certain point. Or maybe that’s the x2 spawn rate? either way, it seems like eventually you get a sorta cascade where enough enemies come that you can’t kill em without attracting attention and then the horde just grows from there.

Holy shit, you probably can’t even imagine how bad it is in x20/25/30 spawn. I actually did fortify an entire mansion in x20, but the trick was that I didn’t start in x20. I started in x2 and increased it every 2 seasons. By the time I got it to x25, I got a little bored of defending the same place, and instead went out to find the Refugee Center to do questing with the NPC’s.

Within a few minutes of arriving there, the place was swarmed by over 900 zombies, 70 of which were necromancers. And more than a few were Hulks.

Fun times man.

Nice. Now, I have my welding rig and solars, time to turn this van into a proper mobile base. owo

EDIT: Yes, got a large electric motor.

I’m fairly certain that something’s a little fucked up with oxygen tanks. I usually ignore them, but I just spotted one after going through a smoker infested basement and decided to make use of it to clean out my lungs, 24 breaths later and I was full dark green in health (from full yellow), no more coughing, -50 or so pain, full stamina, etc–the effects of one or two nights sleep.

Let’s recap the first ten minutes of this game:

Start as Dragon Style Scoundrel. Default points mean I’ve just got int and str with no useful skills or traits beyond NV and Shaolin.

First house: on fire, thanks to my burning building start. As expected, run like fuck to neighbor’s.

Second house: not too notable. See hulk through window, run downstairs for help. Downstairs: like five survivor zombies, a horrific smoker experience (leading to that oxygen tank abuse), and a light survivor suit, combat boots, survivor harness, etc, all on the first five or so zombies I kill. Step outside at night, see hulk is still chillin’, along with massive horde drawn by the burning house (fuck you dynamic spawn). Run like fucking hell.

Third house: Ooh, a soldering iron, ooh, a runner pack. Pretty good shit. Go downstairs: like five survivor zombies, not a single smoker, survivor goggles, gloves, fur trenchcoat, and god knows what’s on these shelves. Did I mention the 20+ cans of food off of the first basements shelves?

Well, I found an atomic mini-tank, and the only damage of consequence was the treads all being out. Wow, nifty.

However, as I merrily looted the crap out of it (3 storage batteries, main cannon, ammo, .50 cal ammo, lots of military composite…), I was oh-so-happy to get all 4 minireactors… until I found that 3 of them still have 1 plutonium cell in them. I installed the empty one, and life is good, but I can’t seem to do anything with the other 3.

I can’t install them, unload them, activate them, disassemble them, craft with them (stabilized portal), ANYTHING. It’s been at least a week now, no change.

Anyone know what to do about that?

That sounds like a derptastic interaction between not being able to unload partially-depleted plutonium and not being able to install filled fuel tanks. >.<

Holed up in the LMOE shelter. Surrounding forest is horde infested.

Food supply is good, and I got decent amount of supplies in general, partially due to the shelter, and mostly from looting the dead. Night raids, basically, fighting the Zs in the dark since at the very least I can avoid shockers since I have no real means of facing them. There’s a shotgun in the shelter, but as much as possible I want to not use that until I’ve cleared out the rest of the horde first.

And, holy cow it was just the second day and there’s big boomers and corrosives already. The corrosive is like a freaking tank, and not being properly armored everywhere almost killed me.

And there was a hulk too. Being a scoundrel plus having centipede style helps quite a bit, though this would have been easier had I chosen muay thai instead.

It’s day 5, and I’m almost hopefully done with the horde. It certainly pays to immediately use advanced inventory after killing a zombie to check if there’s anything useful. Certainly helped me survive.

Anyways, it does seem that the horde is thinning out. To test, I lit a flare and threw it far and only a few Zs and some shockers wandered into the light. Maybe on the next night I’ll high tail it outta the place.

If you’re lucky, you might find an atomic lamp and all your problems will be gone.
Funnily enough, I got a atomic lamp, but i’d prefer my base to be fully lit via solar lights

I never learned how to port characters, so I usually end up getting the essentials for a certain char and match the skills, stats, and traits.
Anyone care to explain how to port?

Also, this.
I was bunkered in a LMOE shelter on my character (first day) within day 5 I was completely surrounded with every damn special zombie imaginable. I decided not to fuck with 10x spawn rate hordes after that.

Oh hey guys got another bad start story.

Just did my generic character name of nat for this one.

Anyway. I Started in a boarded up house. Checked the map to see what nice places are around.

Oh Look what is north next door, It’s the building where the animatronics spawn…Better Nope away from that direction.

Oh What’s this south TEAR GAS MAN HACKS, WHY THANKS CATACLYSM HOW DID YOU KNOW DEATH WAS WHAT I WANTED FOR CHRISTMAS.

Because I love Lab Challenges…

Starting a new one, I begin exploring, groping my way through the dark with care. I pass a dissector and open the door into another room, edging inwards. I see a Bio-Operator across the room from me and think ‘oh crap’, but I’m moving in the dark so he can’t see me. I begin edging towards a doorway, but stray too close to a console. He saw me! Crap! I begin quickly moving towards the door on the opposite side as he closes in, open it, and realize there’s a turret there. I leave the door open in the hopes the turret will take care of him and dodge to the east, following the wall of the room and going over the counters – anything to delay the Bio-Operator rapidly closing in.

I run back towards the other room, but get hit and slammed for a lot of damage, but I’m able to get into the next room with the dissector. I lure the operator onto it, getting some lucky dodges and nott aking significant damage before the dissector finishes shredding him to pieces.

Whew! What a start!

Have you considered playing with reduce item spawns? Might make a good challenge.

after my character died i upgraded and created new one (jaintor), got m4a1 with 40 bullets on road later after running away from hordes i found cabin in forest (but it was F not C)
meet one bandit with gun so i hiden behimd wall and beaten him to death with mop and grabbed his gun (usp 9mm) kiled rest of bandits with m4a1 spending all ammo after that i got a lot of good stuff

later i started to find some familiar things so i started to move in other direction and i found pile of rubble named hospital with only centrifuge intact so i know that im near city where i lived started to head west

under cover of darkness sneaked past zombies and on other end of city finaly found liquour store with solar panels and hole in the wall fixed with frame, steel plating and heavy duty board it was my base

quickly droped everything where it need to be and took 2 adrenaline shoots
started to read skill books and insane speed while listening to ups powered mp3 with rechargeable ups

after some time night ended and i taked look at my map and it was scarry HORDES everywhere! this place was clear from hordes and base was safe too but i was not creating any noise so i continued to read books

CRASH!!! acidic zombie break the wall and hulk follows him making another one
friendly npc armed with chocolade pancake (because he didnt wanted katana) started to beat hulk
npc fly while i load my old L12 shotgun with my reloaded silver slugs (because my dead character had KSG and all best guns and swords) npc smash locker and make another hole in wall

im out of ammo and zombies are still trying to get me (but they do not damage solar panels even if they smash walls next to them) so i grab some cells and teleporter and blink out of here to find my mine resistant cargo truck with pulse laser on front bumper with my dead character inside but when i aproach truck my game crash

i deleted world after that

Even with 5x spawn the hordes are still pretty amazing in number. After a while I just get used to it. Did a lot of night assaults on hordes which more or less quickly gives me everything I need. About a 50 percent success rate, more or less. Scoundrels are super handy in that sense. Combining that with a handy martial arts style is already a recipe to take on a good number of zombies on the first day. Plus their gear is already quite handy since they have a butchering tool and a lighter.

Also, aw crap. In the span of a few in-game hours, I run into grenadiers.

Thankfully I did start using a sling, because melee right now is more or less useless in hitting the hacks. Wish there was a means to disable items like those for melee attacks without unwielding them - so I pelt enemies with rocks or just punch then without having to remind myself to unwield whatever it is I’m holding.

Still far away from the refugee center… but soon… soon… the organization shall begin.

Q. Was Azrad being a stupid head when he wasn’t playing Cata during the time playing DF?

A. Duh. Yes. Yes he did.

Clutter for the clutter god. D:

Clutter for the clutter god. D:
The clutter god will know defeat once I make my organization commence.

By the way, I am wondering. Any new buildings since last time I played. As far as I know, at the very least the LMOE shelter has a new layout. And that’s pretty much all I know as my survivor is still dodging hordes.

“Woah, I just killed a zombie grenadier with like two punches. I’m so fucking good at this, he’s gonna have so much awesome loot–”
