Can’t you just make it into a rifle with enough skill?
I think so, yeah.
Hmm. Does it mess with my ability to use a broadsword? I doubt it. Even then I have no power generation, and likely not enough skill to reliably install. Saving it for now.
Ooh. Shocker brute, butchered for a fusion blaster CBM.
Do I want to lop off an arm and become Megaman? o3o
The only time I can imagine even considering that is when I desperately need a powerful ranged weapon, I have a decent amount of power with good power generation, no UPS CBM, and exceedingly limited battery supply or no external UPS.
In the long term, it’s a terrible way to go. In the case of some immediate, desperate need that it would fill… I still have a hard time even considering it. The penalties are just WAY too severe with the benefits being highly limited.
We really oughta change it to working like the melee bionic weapons.
Anything that would make ranged bionic weapons derp up?
EDIT: Found a tourist guide in a grocery store. Fuck me. >.<
EDIT 2: Ah, good. There’s a cathedral in the town just west of the starter town. Time to debug the relic quest onto the starter NPC. o3o
EDIT 3: Oh wow, the cultist location is way the fuck out there.
EDIT 4: Damnit. Forest is in my way. No way am I driving there.
Here’s an idea for the fusion blaster that would make it have some drawback, but not be completely useless:
Instead of replacing a limb, make it ANOTHER limb.
Now the character’s torso counts as “XL” or mutated, or whatever, because they have an extra limb, but they can fire the fusion blaster any time as though they were wielding it, and still be able to wield some other weapon (ranged or melee… or fists for martial arts, even).
That sounds derp.
So…now I’m past the forest, and on a road again. I see a public works facility, maybe I can jack a vehicle to make the trip less annoying.
Just make the fusion blaster arm able to charge up mega-man style!
Tempting. Very tempting.
On a side note - Hooray for me upgrading on my fourm game and not being zombie food!
Three(!) clear nights in a row resulted in this:
I now know how big the city is and (as you can see) I’ve mapped the safe paths along which I can avoid Zs. That western part of the city next to the shelter looks promising, as the other two parts I tried have zeds of the “do-not-mess” variety (corrosive and bloated).
During the day, I trekked to the south-west of the farm, you can see that path too. The kicker? The route south ends in a LMOE. There’s a cabin nearby, too.
Basically I’m all set as far as survival is concerned, but progressing is a problem. Still missing a screwdriver and a wrench
Not likely to take on the mansion or the school or the center of the city.
Honestly, Schools tend to be meat grinders for chars w/o good armor or weapons. I’d really only go there for books, food, chems, and (The occasional) mutagen/purifier.
Mansions are really good lootbags, you can easily raid them early game (Hell, you can raid anything and still live if you’re smart about it.) Lots of food and weapons and other goodies. Sometimes a pool for infinite water. Might even have a chance on getting a weeb weapon too.
All this being said when you’re playing normal spawn. I don’t know your spawn rates are or your playstyle/difficulty settings so what I say can be completely irrelevant. ![]()
PS: Make a base in that LMOE shelter. Like your vegetables, you know it’s good for you.
You can craft a screwdriver easily enough. And I want to say there is some way to craft something that gives you bolt turning…but that almost feels like a lie.
Pliers and bolts can both be crafted, but you need forging tools for it.
oh well that defeats the purpose than. That is much later game. NVM.
Da. Still, at least that isn’t essential to STARTING a metalworking setup. Well, not technically. In practice, if you want an anvil, you need lumps of steel, and that requires welding goggles to make in quantity if you only have access to smaller metal.
And to make welding goggles, you’ll need to scavenge a spray can, and some bolt-turning quality.
no just classes of any type and a spraycan…nothing else is needed for welding glasses
I could’ve sworn bolt-turning was required. Did they change that? >_>

Nah, with so many trashed cars and shop lockers around making an Anvil and cruicible is easy as pie.
The problem comes when you need something like a metalworking chisel or hacksaw, which usually need something else that’s near impossible to make as a prerequisite.
Also I really don’t remember welding goggles needed bolt turning. Also why would it? You’re essentially just spraypainting some sunglasses so your eyes aren’t ruined by the UV light or whatever spectrum welding gives off.
dragon, sure you’re not talking about the gasmask?
I think that needed bolt turning. o0
This has been a thing for several builds, if not longer. It annoyed one of my innawoods characters.

I’m gonna eat the next person that says this isn’t a thing. :V
Might be best to remove that wrench requirement and drop the difficulty to 3 as well.
If you were making a full-face metal welding guard or something sure, but even the goggles themselves are just that-- goggles.
