What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?
If you value your character’s continued existence I’d recommend you don’t unlock that door or go down the set of stairs into the basement it’s likely concealing.

Remember, your in a seemingly abandoned cabin in the middle of the woods, think back to every horror movie you’ve ever watched…
Oh…oh, god.
Too late.
Elderitch horrors all the way across the sky.

Alright, new plan. I’m going to drive back to town and stock up on as much ammunition as possible and then go back to the basement and get some.

Huehuehue. The basement at least should have a few decent items to make up for it, if the RNG is with you.

When you reach the upright sword though…prepare yourself as much as you did prior to opening the locked door. Then prepare some more.

I’m covered in ectoplasm for some reason?

…I don’t recall that being an ability of any of the monsters that spawn down there.

You must’ve ran into a huge boomer in town. D:

But boomers don’t do ectoplasm

Huge boomers have…well, actually it’s more glowing bile, I think. >.>

EDIT: Oh. It’s one potential side effect of teleglow. There’s a flaming eye down there somewhere. Kill it pronto, and hope it doesn’t roll fungal infection later on.

Will killing it solve the problem?

Killing it will stop it from inflicting MORE teleglow, but the condition cools down over time.

Since flaming eyes can stare through walls, and the worst side effects don’t get included in the potential effect rolls unless the remaining duration is high enough…

Welp, my laptop died on me, so I’ve finally gotten around to updating the game! Started as a military recruit with the crashed helicopter start.

Oh boy.

I started out bleeding from both legs and an arm, with my limbs at around 30 health and in a lot of pain. Nearest house was several tiles away.
Not thinking I’d make it to the house, and unwilling to cut up my military clothes, I shot the NPC that spawned with me.

Now, I usually play a psychopathic cannibal, so the whole feeling guilty thing is completely alien to me. However, looking to change things up a bit, I decided against taking those traits this time.

Those morale effects hit hard. The start of this game has been very unproductive. If I hadn’t found a basement full of clean water, I prolly would’ve died.

EDIT: Also, if you play with Z levels, never press the key to climb up next to furniture and a wall unless there’s actually stairs up. It hurts pretty bad.

Derp. I could’ve sworn it would say “you need stuff adjacent to brace against” every time I tried climbing. D:

So I started playing and found a luxury RV and a Light Tank Along with a Welding cart and have 8 mechanics…I am about to have some fun!!!

Midnight, day 12: Found another NPC to have tag along with me. He apparently likes to sit in the trunk of the car. Run on bookstore to get books on mechanics was without success, but we did manage to get away from the growing horde that had descended upon the building adjacent to us. I’ll take what I can get.

I screwed up. Real bad.

See, I was holding out in this garage. And there were a lot of fungaloids nearby. And fungal beds were spreading a bit too close to my garage.

So, I take my matchbook and lighter and go out to set some of the closer ones on fire. Suddenly, I hear a large crash. And I knew exactly what happened. I screwed up.

I don’t even have an excuse. The garage, and all my stuff, just went up in flames. All I have left are my tools, a few books, a couple bottles of water, and a bag of bacon.

I am not a smart man.

Heh.

Heheheh.

cue Mycus hijack

We are undeterred by such simple threats as fire.

Real mistake was not fleeing as soon as fungal terrain started to spread in your reality bubble.

In the future, try to have a few jerry cans worth of anti-fungal gas on hand. I love that stuff…

I plan on seeing how well the toxic gas variant does on spider basements/bee hives/slime pits and schools…

Aside from that, looks like I’ll have to start my survivor out from scratch again…they’re too many worlds old and crash from nearing refugee centers…

Think maybe I’ll go with a low perception build, blindfold them and wear that all-seeing mask from the arcana mod…

Just note that the vision range on that mask is fairly short. Clairvoyance effects only really come in short-ranged and “ALL the range” flavors. ;w;

Farted around with making a fire station into a permanent base. Got bored, gave up, burned it down. I live way way better in my deathmobile, and I realized that all I was doing was building an inferior vehicle around a fixed building for no reason.

Before this I experimented and found you can vaguely suss out your surroundings when blindfolded with antennas and the CBM that lets you see your own scent. Paired with improved hearing you can snipe unseen enemies pretty well…

Ah, neat. Part of the main use of the mask is it should also protect against flash-blindness.

In my dash for food and water, I got to watch an NPC get pulled from a building and mauled in the street. Tried to help, against my better judgment, but wasn’t able to. Died before I could get to him. I was then forced to kill around 15 zombies with nothing but a combat knife. Thankfully army winter gear makes for good armor.

However, as I tried to go north, I ran into a shocker brute. It hadn’t seen me yet, so I didn’t immediately run. That didn’t last long, and I was forced to use my gun.

As the brute drew closer, another NPC appeared! And they were firing on the brute! Between us, we managed to kill the thing without me suffering too much damage.

So I decide to try to thank my savior. And she promptly tells me to drop my gun. Oh boy. So I drop it. And she comes to take it. And before she can, I pick it up.

A message I hadn’t seen before popped up, saying she looked around nervously, as if searching for something. Furthermore, she didn’t immediately turn hostile. Curious, and wanting to butcher the brute for CBMs, I don’t shoot her.

For future reference, if you have the opportunity to shoot an unfriendly NPC, take it. Don’t do what I did. She moved a few tiles away, and threw a stick of dynamite at me. I ran towards her to get a better shot, and she threw a molotov at me. I managed to get out of the fire, but the extra move gave her time to shoot me point-blank, killing me.

Thankfully the death cam exists, so I got to watch the dynamite explode and kill her. So atleast I’ve got that going for me.
