Just wondering, do most of y’all play with static, dynamic, or both spawns?
I tend to play with static spawns. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but more often than not dynamic spawn is the opposite of that, too easy, for me unless I’m intentionally trying to be as loud as I can.
I’m currently playing with both static and dynamic along with 10.0 spawn rate because CDDA has basically turned me into a survival masochist.

Lovely. I’ve been having trouble starting a good char with both on 'cause every time you kill a zombie the noise spawns half a dozen more.
And, of course, I got this wonderful start: (it couldn’t find a cabin…)
Oh that…wow. That’s the worst start I’ve seen in a while.
Oh, now that’s just hilariously terrible. Don’t worry it get’s better, eventually… I burnt through several different characters before I first got someone deep enough innawoods to avoid the ravenous hordes. A knife spear and keeping on the move are probably your best friends until the starter hordes stop following you a couple days in with a regular evac spawn. And honestly the only reason my escaped experiment has survived to reach the midgame is because of a lucky LMOE shelter spawn and the desert eagle that came with it, otherwise I guarantee he’d have been torn apart by the wolf pack that attacked just outside the shelter or by one of the four different mi-gos that used to inhabit the surrounding forest.
Or, you know, the hordes of beavers in the rivers.

It’s either that, or 100+ units of jerky.

I had the exact same problem.
[s]My latest character is doing quite well thus far. It’s early in the morning on Day 7, and I’m currently hauling some supplies back from town towards my base in a shopping cart.
I created a female backpacker (I alternate between male and female characters, because equal opportunity ftw.) with some skills in survival, swimming, and dodging (DF taught me that you should always put points into dodging) and selected a random name-- Tonya Corral. I started out in an evac shelter with no landmarks in sight other than a cave to the north and a bridge across a huge river to the northwest. I headed across the bridge on the first day, and managed to come across the outskirts of a town on the night of Day 1.
After backtracking on Day 2, I found a radio tower by the banks of the river. Not the ideal choice for a base, but it’s done well so far. The bridge is too clogged up with vehicles to cross back over in anything more than three tiles wide (trust me, I tried, but the self-propelled howitzer that’s smack dab in the middle of the bridge doesn’t seem like it’s going to move any time soon.) I’ve never spent any amount of time by the water in Cataclysm before, so I’m kind of scared of what could be hiding in the river. I’ve got weapons, supplies, food, and a few vehicles-- a flatbed truck I tried to cross the bridge in (lost both front wheels in the process, but the cargo spaces are still salvageable), an electric car, a hatchback, and a regular car.
The two things holding me back now are the lack of a wood saw and a book on mechanics.
I tried the bookstore and the hardware store in town on this latest trip, but no luck in either category.
I’ve started carrying out lightning-speed night raids (one backpack, no armor or protective gear, and a single melee weapon, plus basic first-aid supplies and nothing else) into town, but I haven’t mapped it all out yet and it looks like the only place the two items I need could be is in the (unmapped) northwestern part of town. Midnight cartography hasn’t been going well, so it looks like I might have to gear up for a daylight raid.

Never mind.
Not two minutes after I posted that, Tonya got mauled by a feral predator.
;~;
Playing Mattia Cupelli’s Reminiscence (saaaaad music) and creating a new character.
Tonya needs a decent funeral.
Reason #69 why I wimp out and playing with Mundane Zombies on. ;w;
Don t you love it when your char dies and you can start an new one?
The only final thing you can do in cata is dieing. So you won the game.
The only way to win is to lose in an entertaining manner. owo
The dozens of first-night deaths, on the other hand…
Yeah, I might do an “ultra-realistic” playthrough with mundane zombies and all that…
I’d have to bump up the spawn rate, though.
It is a bit easier to survive, yeah. The other non-zombie enemies are challenging in their own ways, so…
Took out everything but classic zombies and bumped the spawn rate up to 2.5.
BIG MISTAKE.

Bump it up to x10 with static and dynamic spawn enabled.
REAL zombie apocalypse feel then.
Disappointment is happening. I have managed to scrounge together a heavy power armour, a heavy power armour helmet and a power armour hauling frame. I also installed the mk2 interface CBM, which does not appear to work.
