Is there an advantage to caterpillar tracks over wheels?
They look bad as hell.
I think they’re probably more durable, too.
they are durrable, even rubber tracks are more durable than armored wheels but it look like only steel are craftable (you can loot military tracks from tanks what are even more durable) with 2 large electric motors i can run safe speed of 141 km/h with 4919 kg (something about 300 with wheels) that slow speed is not disadvantage for me because i drive at 40-60 km/h because security cameras decrease my sight range
alslo with tracks you never need to replace tires after driving through minefield!!!
my mine resistant cargo truck (based on flatbed truck)
while middle is out of not too durable light frames outside steel plated frames are normal frames and outer shell of military composite and spiked bumper is heavy duty frame
its still under construction (need new layer of armor in front and more panels and cargospace)
Just fired up this game again after a month or so away from it. Still trying to replicate the success I had with my best character ever, a nodachi-wielding, bionically augmented badass who died ingloriously when he took off his optical cloak too soon, not realizing that the military bunker had more turrets than the two he just EMP’d.
Currently, so far so good… Day four, and I’m still kicking. I’ve got my trusty compound bow and arrows, hunting knife for melee, and I found a couple of guns in a basement. Just survived a close encounter with a shocker brute, but my SKS managed to take it out, and I escaped back to my base to recover.
Perhaps most notably, on my first raid, I prioritized hitting up an antiques store, which I knew could sometimes carry powerful swords. I get in, and I see it: in the display case, sits one of the most magnificent of prizes - the zweihander. I smash open the case, grab it, then notice… it’s apparently a fake? It’s just a dull replica and about the equivalent of a huge, clumsy strip of steel. I’ve never been more disappointed in my life.
I decided to raid a lab and meet horde on the way so i just rammed them with my spiked plating avoiding horde
when i was on my destination i blocked enterance with my car and turned on lights
after day horde found me and because i was in lab they managet to get closer than when i am on surface so they started to attack my truck
for 2 days one pulse laser turret managed to defend my postion but on day 3 zombies were on winning side so i started to fight horde with guns incredinary grenades and katanas but quickly i lost both legs and i was near dead with 170 pain so i used teleportation cbm to get in lab after that i taken control of truck and rammed them losing one spiked plating and upgraded solar panel (i have no idea how this was destroyed it was in middle)
turned forward towards horde and started to repair
on day 5 after start of horde attack i managed to kill them now i am butchering corpses under covering fire of pulse laser its going to take looong time i got spare moltovs still so after i butcher all shockers and collect all loot i will pile corpses and turn them on fire
I started a game as a mall cop and immediately teamed up with the NPC I spawned next to. He gave me a job to kill a jabberwocky. I looked doubtfully at my expandable baton but said “okay.”
As I was sewing up some salvaged clothing in the theater by flashlight, I hear a terrifying roar and see the sound indicator on my screen, just on the other side of the wall. Cut to minimap, and sure enough the jabberwocky is right outside the mall, causing a ruckus and (as a peek out the loading bay doors seemed to confirm) killing zombies like a MF’er. I’m not leaving the mall that way.
After a while longer of crafting by flashlight in the dark, I hear a terrifying series of BOOMs, and then nothing. I’ve been deafened. I peek out into the main mall, and half of the mall has collapsed to the ground. Cut to map view, the jabberwocky is INSIDE the mall, going ham on some undead shoppers and just generally making a mess of the place.
I “nope” out of there after popping a few more crates in the loading dock and take myself down the street to a little crossroads with a few houses and a grocery store. I spent the next five days deafened by the Jabberwocky’s destruction, suiting up and fortifying a nicely equipped house. This is home now, and having a jabberwocky for a neighbor is kind of disconcerting, but I’m NOT going back to that mall.
I finally raided the local FEMA camp (or tried anyway) and discovered that for some reason arrows from a reflex recurve bow bounce off zombie skin. What…!?
The Awl pike I’m carrying still destroys them though.

what arrows are you using? my heavy wooden arrows can even penetrate tankbot armor (rarely 1 damage)
Fletched wood arrows with arrowheads.
I can’t seem to make heavy wooden ones with anything but fire hardened heads yet.
I’m wondering whether I’d actually do better with a crossbow since it boosts the damage and I have metal bolts.
But I can’t make that repeating crossbow since I have no springs and I think someone said traps don’t spawn in the wild anymore…?
Is that true? I thought people still had to deal with landmines.
It has however just occurred to me that I know where there’s a lawnmover so I can hopefully get a spring…
Well, holy crap, it turns out a zombie hulk is no match for a repeater crossbow with metal bolts.

What’s your strength? You get less range, and I THINK less damage, if you use the higher-draw-weight bows without the minimum strength for it.
14 strength.
It was specifically giving me messages about the arrows bouncing off the tough zombie skins.
Speaking of which though, I discovered something very odd.
My metal crossbow bolts tended to do the same thing but when I used the 3-round burst mode on the repeating crossbow they never seemed to bounce off and would typically do about 20 damage per bolt.
Hmm. 14 should be plenty, yeah. I can only assume the arrows lack enough pierce, tough zombies are supposed to be…well, tough.
Burst fire lunacy sounds just plain wonky though.
Sorry, not actual “tough zombies”. Just all kinds of zombies. Zombie scientists for example repel wood arrows like crazy.
Oh wow. o.O
Are you aiming? If you don’t take the time to aim, I’ve found that you get “glancing hits” much more often, which can cause the arrow to deal no damage, giving you that message.
Ah right. I forgot that some people don’t bother to aim until the steadiness bar is full, like I always do. o3o
It happened less when I aimed first, yes.
It’s just weird because against other enemies earlier on it wasn’t doing that.
Bees and “scarred zombies” were really weak to my bow. Zombie scientists on the other hand…
The steadiness bar was fairly full if not completely full so I didn’t think I needed to aim further.
Hmm, odd. In general I like to aim to full, then hit precise fire for good measure.
Sticking to close range shots helps too. Another reason I find shotguns are under-appreciated. That unrealistically short maximum range means jack shit when you stick to using it at enemies only 2 spaces away. X3
Actually I’ve been wondering about that. Do the keys for precise aiming etc do anything different or is it equivalent to just pressing full stop several times to fill the bar?
And what affects confidence? Skill?
I think skill affects it, but I know distance to the target plays a big part in it as well. The closer the target is, the higher the confidence.
