What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

Personally, I find myself wearing earplugs basically ALL the time once I find them. I take them off to check a few things, then put them back on… and that’s on a melee character who doesn’t use a gun.

Hearing can be nice, when you want to check something, but most of the time, I just find it annoying. Seriously, I get that the vehicle I’m driving is humming, OK?
I’m getting to this point too. I’m deaf all the time anyway, may as well spare myself constantly wondering why.
On my current character, the very first active bionic I installed was the hearing one, so now I can turn my hearing on and off VERY easily. It’s nice.

In my current Randomly-generated Apocalypse, I’m dealing with the almighty CRASH monster. It only seems to hit when I’ve been playing for quite a while and covered a lot of ground, then… BAM, all work gone. Had 4 of them in the last five days. Very annoying. Lost a UPS bionic in one of them - oh, the cyber-humanity!

So apparently, despite not having any improved night vision, survivors can perfectly tell where you are in the middle of the dark to kill you.

I’m getting shot to pieces using turrets to grind my tailoring and first aid.

Stay positive, fellow survivors.

If I remember correctly, the enhanced hearing bionic already provides protection from deafening noises automatically with hearing on. Anything that’ll cause a noise that can deafen won’t, more or less. Deactivating the hearing I think is used to prevent interruptions like asking you to stop crafting if you hear a noise (like reading in a shoggoth infested lab).

So my character just got high on adderall and torched her boarding school to the ground, while shouting at the top of her lungs and blasting zed children all night long. Good times.

Oh yeah, it sure protects your hearing from damage from anything I’ve ever found, that’s not the problem. It’s just more convenient a LOT of the time to have the hearing off (which is why I leave earplugs in almost all the time once I have them).

Had my first encounter with a corrosive zombie. Managed to kill it, but broke both my legs. Made it back to my evac shelter with one of my knives still in my inventory and made a splint. Never had to do that before.

Good thing I have books, four funnels set up, and a metric ton of books to read. Food isn’t so bad, I found a ton of oatmeal and rice early on and there’s some other stuff around… I hope I heal before I need to scout for more.

Got back into the game, testing out my magic mod ( http://smf.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?topic=11013.0 ) and the latest PR’d version of the tank mod ( http://smf.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?topic=10771.0 ).

And I picked…razor boy. “I never asked for this.”

Started in a military surplus store, made a swift dash for the bank as it’s slightly more secure. If I’d thought to invest in computer skill, I could get into the vault.

Now to stop freezing my ass off, as I did a midnight start due to abuse of the Stats Through Skills mod.

EDIT: Aw yeah, atomic mini-tank right outside the bank! And it’s workable, just some damage and lacking fuel.

EDIT 2: I found Apprentice’s Notes, essentially arcana for dummies, in a library.

When I find a UPS bionic, I almost always keep my hearing on permanently (especially if the hearing CBM is available) so I can use a UPS powered mp3 player running forever, even when sleeping. A stylish optimistic survivor will have around 100 morale in total thanks to that, plus even more during meal time if a cannibal.

Hnnng. All I need is a higher level mechanics book and an acetylene torch, and I can make this minitank awesomer.

EDIT: Oh. OH. Doh! Biodiesel book is mechanics, not cooking? This is good.

EDIT 2: Got her mostly fixed up, but I think I can add a few improvements. I stripped down most of a security van for its heavy duty parts, and loaded it all into an ice cream truck. Dingding.

EDIT 3: Adding frames to shield the rear corner cameras has resulted in a more phallic shape than I was intending. Will want to make it a full, all-encompassing layer anyway.

EDIT 4: NO. No. Bad zombies. Stop hammering my tank while I’m repairing it.

Where the screens at??? Show me a god damn pimp tank!

Now that it’s not so hilarious looking…fiiiine. Still not pimped out enough. ;A;

Need to complete the added layer of heavy-duty quarterpanels, armor it up, then maybe consider expanding it to give some living space.

And most importantly, I need solar panels. Batteries are out and it lacks plutonium.

Playing the saxaphone whilst reading and chopping down trees.
also apparently if you wear earplugs whilst saxaphone active you could play while you sleep

Accidental inventory mismanagement led to bopping a zombie with sausage.

Probably more effective than the time I attempted to fix my cargo pants with a grenade.

By the time I realized that, I’d killed it. <.<

Finally found my first enhanced electric engine (two of em, actually) and immediately installed them into the Dinochrome Dually. 93mph with 2 armored wheels and 2 60" tank tracks. Oh YEAH.

Neat.

Meanwhile…wow. What a difference a couple inboard mirrors makes. I can save the cameras for later if needed.

Something that i just found and is awesowm… riding a bike whilst swinging a glaive at things
