Scheiße or Scheisse.
Doh. ;A;
EDIT: Survivor zombie dropped survivor goggles. Guess they did nothing.
EDIT 2: Ooh cool, found some of the now-mainlined 5.45x39mm ammo. And…9x18mm casings, less immediately useful.
EDIT 3: Had to return with a duffel bag, so much ammo…
EDIT 4: Ooh cool, the corporate account quest is also a quest line.
EDIT 5: Also, I burned through 78 shotshells working my way through the offices. I’m amazed I didn’t get swamped by a horde.
EDIT 6: What the…quest directed me to Freddy’s. Aw hell.
Can you provide your character screen? Did you engage the brute head-on or lead it to some more convenient place, like wreckage or a broken window first?[/quote]
14 strength and 4 skill in unarmed. Can’t quite recall if I added points to skill, but scoundrel starts off with some.
In the end, it was mostly luck. I hit first, and it was a crit that stunned. One stun is usually enough, unless those damn hulks step back then get unstunned in time to turn my character in a smear in the wall.
Eat 7.62x39mm, Foxy. Somehow the safe deposit box just happens to be laying around in the hall. Smash and grab FTW.
EDIT: “Your Armored Car’s heavy duty frame rams into wrecked animatronic fox and stuns it!”
Had a dream from a drunken gameplay session. I saw in a dream that a circular saw (on) had a butchering quality of 600. I had no direct or clear memory of the butchering quality of the said tool. If you had asked me yesterday, I would’ve said “It doesn’t have a butchering quality. What are you talking about?” The dream felt like quite a real copy of the actual events and choices I had made except for the saw’s stats. So as soon as I had woken up, I was anxious to find out the facts. “It… it can’t be 600. That’s impossible.”, I muttered as I got out of the bed, indistinguishable from an undead, moaning and shambling towards my computer to do some searches. Experienced players know that the saw’s actual BQ is 60, not 600, FFS…
You know, subconscious, sometimes I think you’re not the enemy, but only a jester who’s actually trying to be helpful. I’m not falling for it though.
Lucked out in my latest hobo start. Found a load of prozac. Boiling water and cooking food no longer a problem whilst i wean off the booze. Sheltered in an apartment complex. The rest of the immediate area is field and forest. Spending a few days reading books, foraging for vegetables and hunting food whilst i heal from the initial zombie clearing of the place. mercifully no hordes nearby. But staying wary in case one does stray near. Survivor at the shelter got moosed to death. He had a crossbow which I have put to good use hunting racoons and squirrels. priority will be getting fabrication up to fashion more bolts for it. got about a dozen left.
Made my way to the refugee center. Good thing too, since my cargo carrier cart was maxed out in volume. Temporary base.
One of these days I wanna set up base in the middle of a city.
My buddy that I started with got massacred by a few zombies while I was dealing with a Shocker Brute. I built an outdoor kitchen and crafting vehicle so I can finish up reading these books I’ve found around town. I’m up to Fab 9 or 10, Mech and Cooking 6 or so and working on my CS skills now. I need to get a sniper rifle set up to handle the pest extermination tasks the refugee center gave me but I just found SWAT armor, which I tend to favor lately. Do need to craft a rapier before I go out to make full use of my fencing skill.
Well, will be posting another silly zombie-slaying rampage eventually, as I’ve been working on a tank. Guess it’s gonna be a minireactor-fueled Merkava, since modding in a diesel engine beefy enough to haul 9x9 tiles of armor and treads results in deafness as soon as you put it in gear. o3o
Aw yeah. Finally got the kinks worked out, seems to be working just fine. I dub it…well I dunno yet. It’s sorta Merkava-like in layout, so maybe a chariot reference. Helios would fit, except it isn’t solar powered. o3o
Weight: A diminutive (for a tank) 2.17 tons 12 tons
Crew: 3, with driver/gunner/loader idiotically mashed into a single role.
Armament: 120mm tank gun, mounted M240, mounted M2 Browning.
Engine: Supercharged electric motor, 2 heavy-duty minireactors.
Payload capacity: An absurd 150 rounds, with space reserved for up to 1000 more.
Fuel capacity: 100 standard plutonium cells.
Operational range: To be determined.
Speed on road: 45 mph.
EDIT: “You hit the zombie cop for 3555 damage. The zombie cop dies!” Explosions may be nerfed at the moment, but I can’t help but love it when this thing scores a hit.
EDIT 2: Stupid fuel dialogue in my way, the weight is higher than I was able to see. 24149 pounds when empty of ammo and fuel.
Just wear earplugs. You’ll be fiiiine!
On topic. Found a decent sized city to the northwest of the apartment complex. Been trimming the numbers along the outskirts with my trusty spear. Scored lucky and found a sledgehammer and a fireaxe as well as copious clothing to help grind tailoring and stockpile some leather. Filled a shopping cart with a liquor store and grocery stores meagre pickings. And ran back with the booty. On the following day I managed to find a fully working armoured car. Though it’s pretty beat up. parked it near the complex . Also spotted a herd moving into the area. Going to start boarding up the building and smash interior passageways between the apartments so I have multiple fall back rooms in case this gets out of hand. Just a dozen or so regular zombies and children ones so far. Nothing too major.
It seems that when I had the diesel version buttoned up, I couldn’t hear the engine. So maybe if I built another with the engine enclosed in heavy-duty boards…
My partially fortified apartment complex got swarmed by my first real horde in this playthrough. Killed a good 20-30 in the immediate area. They breached through to the apartment I was using up till the previous evening till I had constructed a fireplace and moved all my resources 1 apartment down replete with new interior access via walls smashed down going through the elevator. There’s at least 3 times that number in the area still. Along with a brute or two. Luring in sections of the horde and luring them to fight in constricted spaces with my spear wielding hobo with no encumbrance on him. So he can make maximal use of rapid strike without being mobbed by the horde. Should be manageable with these tactics + the medkits i have stashed. Definitely going to invest time in laying traps and further fortifications once the area is cleared.
Gonna be one helluva corpse bonfire.

Are hordes anymore balanced than they used to be, because I enjoy base building/defense and it sounds like fun?
I don’t care if it gets gallons to the mile, requires me to dash out of the driver’s seat to use the main gun, and deafens me even when the engine’s running.

Still totally worth it.
EDIT: Oh. Er…Well hi.

Still worth it.
Bullwhip is OP, really OP
Fighting a feral hunter with a 2 days old character? BULLWHIP!
Fighting a bunch of Z including a survivor and shocker in a raid goes wrong? BULLWHIP!
Get nearly sandwiched by a brute AND a shocker brute? BULLWHIP!
At this point the only thing to do is to see whether the almighty bullwhip will work on jabberwock and hulk

Definitely to the hells yes in recent experimentals. I’m playing currently on 2.5 spawn rate for enemies with hordes on. You still have a chance of encountering impossible hordes that take up half the map screen. But with some decent armour and weapon + tactics you can weather smaller hordes. I literally woke up to find about 100 in the nearby area outside the apartment. They’re a random chance thing. But I was fine inside with my supplies as long as I didn’t make too much noise. They wander of their own accord now. Also makes the act of setting up distraction devices a very useful endeavour. Working on levelling building so I can reinforce these windows and doors more. Maybe set up a log walled perimeter too to help. The good thing is it scales with monster spawn rate. So you can fine tune spawn settings to suit you. I’ve got npcs at like 0.05 too. So they’re a once in a week to a few weeks wildcard for me when they show up. Along with hordes migrating through and sometimes depositing legions of undead on my doorstep it’s definitely made base building have a tactical value now.
Edit: on topic:
Well after mopping up the last of that horde I was able to get fabrication up and an electric forge/ crucible built. Just got to find some duct tape so I can make welding goggles or loot some And can round out my smithing tools/ options. Now I just need to find some more batteries for the thing. More hordes to the further northeast and west. But nothing impending on me right right now. Fortifying and fallback tunnels of the apartment complex continues. Confidence that I have enough backup holes to hide in should the other walls get breached. And whittle them down like the last time.

I’ll agree that the stun from the bullwhip is too powerful, but if it doesn’t penetrate the armor, you’ll never kill them, and its damage output is really low even when it does, so anything that regens or has any significant armor is going to be unkillable with it.
Depending on the version, though, I think it will still stun, which makes it crazy good to switch to, just to keep stuff stunned.
So far, I think I’ve set up a pretty decent, next to no encumbrance gear except for the head while having as much storage space.
In order of what my character is wearing at the moment;
Boxer shorts
Tank top
Socks
Monocle, due to nearsightedness
Long-sleeved shirt
Tactical dump pouch
Light survivor hood
Light survivor mask
Survivor cargo pants
Drop leg pouches
Survivor trench coat
Two helmet nettings
Light survivor gloves
Light survivor boots with hunting knife
Light survivor harness
Army Helmet
Encumbrances:
Torso: 9
Head, which doesn’t really matter: 27
Eyes, which can’t be helped due to near-sighted, 15
Mouth: 5
Arms: 8
Hands: 5
Leg: 9
Foot: 6
Total volume, thanks to packmule: 132. Not too good without, as checking with debug it’ll turn to 84
Now, leg encumbrance I don’t really have much of a problem with, so I can add another survivor cargo pants and drop leg pouch to bring the total volume capacity at 116 without packmule and 163 with packmule.
The leg encumbrance ain’t too bad, either. With two survivor cargo pants and two drop leg pouches, encumbrance says 41, but running only costs 6 extra, minus 1 dodge, and a slightly big increase in swimming cost. All in all, armor is decent. Torso area is a bit worrying since the trenchcoat doesn’t have complete coverage. Nonetheless, the entire setup protects the albino from the sun, and most melee problems can be defended against.
Some things I noted as I encountered big hordes, with my current armor set up.
Spitters are less of a threat in experimental instead of the danger they are in stable. With the proper equipment, I can stand around in the pools of acid they spit out and did no damage at all. Sometimes they do, but after a big fight the damage done was barely notable. Back in stable staying in a pool of acid melted legs off if I tried fighting in the acid. Instead, the acid pools helped in disposing zombies I’m fighting since acid damage to them is still effective. Still bad for melting possibly important items, in any case.
Now, the things that proved dangerous were surprisingly the grapplers. Perhaps I was overconfident by rushing through a group of at least 10 of them. In any case, they’ll just grab and grab and grab, which pretty much slows my character down, and it seems to do torso damage, and it all adds up. When I finished them off, my torso was at one bar remaining after previously being full. Only got out of that one by using guns at point blank to finish them off. Melee would have been too slow and would’ve killed me.
Small gaggles of zombies keep gravitating to the area around the complex. It’s getting so littered with bodies and bones that I might need to grab a duffel bag and collect it all up. Well levelling tailoring isn’t going to ever be a problem after this. I also got fabrication up to 6 and working on 7 making some cannisters since they’re so cheap on batteries to make. Though power for the electric forge is still a going concern. Was able to make a machete as well as a handy backup weapon should my knife spear break. At this point I can safely handle most stuff barring corrosive zombies or Hulks with little major issue. Got some limited 00 shot for a Remington shotgun. Slowly building an varied ammo type and gun stockpile. Keeping the building boarded up isn’t too bad. And the apartment complex is proving an effective place to hide out and weather any passing hordes. Some days do have to be entirely dedicated to keeping numbers nearby down. Otherwise they will get out of hand. Also still low on diesel and tools for working on the armoured car I found. But hopefully can find a gas station or some rollers to siphon fuel off . Also need to find a proper welder. Got a small stockpile of bionics but lacking medical and electronic skills to make trying worth it. Mansions and libraries are a priority target.
