The outpost bar sells one shot of brandy for 10 dollars. An easy way to get some booze, and an even easier way to get free glass bottles. Yay.
Made a Mycus and participating in its invasion against a small town.
I had found shelter within the NPC outpost and had not mutated Mycus Identity yet so I was vomitting spores.
I thought the shelter was safe enough with all those npcs so I sat in bed reading books at 1200 pain and broken arms.
Shots, gunshots, I thought they were shooting my spores, nope.
Horde attacking the shelter, with me on the bed at 1200 pain and no arms.
I was glad I was wearing rollerblades and started with fleet footed, even got a road runner mutation from eating the berries.
Managed to kite the entire horde into the NPCS and threw junk (with broken arms) at the remaining zombies.
Only 3 npcs survived but I managed it and fixed the shelter windows again.
That was a really good oh shit moment with no script involved especially since I had nowhere else to run to.
We are good now, we made bone armor from the dead NPCs and we surround the entire shelter.
We have joined together and are reclaiming a nearby city for us.
Soon when we develop the ability to create spores we will convert the remaining npcs.
Fascinating. Where is my flamethrower?
And where’s that anti-fungal spray that’s currently being made? Must have it now…
Anyways, NPC spawn is really strange. Pushed it up to 20x, spent days reading books and crafting… and nothing. I’ve run out of smoked suckers and not using up my dwindling amoral aspic supply.
Gonna need to make an antifungal version of 120mm shells…
Where’s my missile? Aw, I wasted it on that fungal bloom.
Starting a new world with a more in-character ChazMoth setup - minimum strength (Because he’s a puny little weakling), 10 perception and dexterity, and 14 intelligence, and his skillset is more in-character based on what books he’d likely read or what skills he’d likely learn, so he knows the bare minimum of fabrication, electronics, mechanics, computers and first aid.
My goal with him is to get him to learn more about construction so he can eventually build his own base outside of town, but I also want him to start tinkering with bionics (Which is the out-of-character reason for giving him points in electronics, mechanics and first aid in particular).
I’m still playing on 0.C stable (As I’ve stated previously, I don’t plan on playing the experimentals until it’s under at least a feature freeze, because then I know there won’t be too many major changes between updates.), so here’s hoping I get somewhere with this.
New world start, doing okay. Per the usual, caught the flu on day 2. Least I managed to make it through a few buildings and get some cough suppression and some books to I could get some gear for when I was better. I use the ‘missing’ start in most. I pick a random building to start in, and go from there. Makes things interesting.
I found a survivor basement I was thinking of holing up in for a bit, that is until I stumbled across a Fire station. One with lots of noise inside… I opened it expecting to have to kill the previous firefighters… Nope, they all left… with the truck running. WOOO! A mostly working firetruck (my first ever) and 2 water cannons! Muahhhahaa! Love those. (I’ve found them on the ground never a whole Firetruck)
Part of me wishes I could put gasoline in those. (to then light the gasoline at my leisure). Really, why does it have to be water? You should be able to shoot any liquid you can put in the tanks.
So far a decent start since all of this gear is here, and it’s always decently fortified with the metal doors, and gear.
EDIT: Okay, firetruck vehicle need to be redone. It’s 5x7? Mobile homes are not bigger than firetrucks, they are usually the same size! This thing is the same size as a pickup. I’d say minimum would be 5x8 or 5x9. I know the issue is going to be then that the fire station needs to be larger. Which is would by a few tiles.
One of these days I should try becoming a horrible Mycus freak. owo
After another couple of poor attempts (And an incident where I found a Zombie Brute chilling in a house), I’m still juggling about points to stick within the vanilla point allocation while trying to keep my character in-character. I decided to give myself a bit of a better chance of survival, I’d take Clumsy off my character’s flaws (It’s been replaced with Heavy Sleeper because I sleep like a damn log in real life, haha). I also took one point off of Perception for a total of 9, and invested that point in Light Step. Hopefully now I’ll be able to do a bit more stealthy stuff when it comes to operating in the outskirts of towns.
Let’s try this again again again. \o/
Got the latest compiled version, gonna see if I can hunt down a fungal zone and become a monster. Got my usual slight boost of 12/24 instead of 6/12. Wilderness scenario…nomad profession I guess.
EDIT: Fuck me that was a quick death. Mooseseseses.
Watch out for those Moosen
Second attempt ended in being tag-teamed by a mi-go, two krecks…and two wolves.
That’s it, next time I’m picking black belt.
I just returned home to my Military Bunker turned underground Storehouse after nearly half a Spring (90 day seasons) of scouting, looting and destroying any potential fungal or triffid threats around my local overmap. So I come downstairs ready to grab a bite to eat, sample some fine alcoholic refreshment (I’ve started drinking all the alcohol I collect during my travels to stay hydrated instead of clean water now) and get a good night’s sleep before I spend the next three ingame days sorting out the literal truckload of loot on the surface. But instead I come across some jackass NPC standing atop my pile of guns who then proceeds to threaten me with a gun pulled from said pile. Needless to say it went about as well for him as you’d imagine, I’m gonna bury his body in my backyard tomorrow with full honors (including a Darwin Award).
Well, I’m back home, so back to the desktop save with the burglar. Got a good stash of loot now, and guns, and books, and a decent amount of food. Both banks in the area have been cleaned out too, heheh.
EDIT: Intact RV, sweet. Will need to return in the daytime to claim it and move it to my base.
I dig deep pits near my entrances, with spikes in them, I use 3 pits in a row. You can cover them with 2x4’s and pull them up when you leave. NPC’s are not smart enough to lay down 2x4’s. They will either ignore it, or run into the pit, if they climb out, go into another. If I could figure out how to put lava in them I would.
Found four barrels of malt whiskey on one liquor store. Viva alcohol.
Getting the RV fixed up, gonna convert to solar power once I have more skill.
And then I shall be free to scout out the remaining edges of town left unexplored, in the name of phat loot.
Yeah, I didn’t realize NPCs could move between Z-levels, unless he just spawned down there. Once I’ve sorted everything out loot wise I plan to expand the chainlink fence around the Bunker one or two map tiles total to the southwest so that it can link with the fencing of a Military Outpost and install a nice network of spiked trenches around the perimeter. Then I’ll have more then enough safe space to setup a proper farm, solar array and parking lot/scrapyard for my growing fleet of vehicles.

They can’t, which is very annoying if you want to get the starting NPC out of a lab before you get their starting quest (as any of the “go here” quests are broken if they aren’t on the main map).
