Just to see if I can, I tried something related to my purging.
Firstly, my setup.
A simple flamethrower.
A jerrycan of napalm.
A rollmat.
Several braziers.
Thick tail mutation (no more need for ambien, just activate mutation and wait until I get tired)
Internal climate control activated.
About 20k batteries, in case I need to refill my bionic power.
So I find me a nice, safe spot in a corner. I set up some braziers just in case, and place the rollmat on the safe zone. With that set and ready for use, I light the place up, and I go to bed.
When I woke up, this is what I saw.
Since it’s underground, I couldn’t see a lot for the screencap, even with the nightvision bionic. Still, I walked around the entire area and confirmed it myself: the entire underground level of the slime pit has been purged of all slime. No more blobs, just a field of ash and ruin. Was it costly? Yup. Was it worth it? Oh hell yeah.
Got all the way to the bottom of an ice lab, having cleared out everything on 6 floors above, and in the room in the center, that light-blue, special-floor, stuff-in-the-middle-surrounded-by-4-dissectors room, I find…
-a fusion gun, which I already have
-100 fusion ammo (nice I guess?)
-900 battery
-A7 laser rifle (nice)
-V29 (or whatever) laser pistol (ok, I guess?)
-computer prinout (atomic battery mod… and I would EVER use plutonium for that? UH, NO!)
-Enhanced memory banks
OK, that last one would be nice… if I weren’t playing without skill rust (since it’s so silly busted).
Seriously, THAT’S what I moved into this place for a week plus was for? What I made a thermal outfit for? THAT’S IT?!??!!?!?
So frustrating. The laser rifle looks nice, if I can just find a bloody UPS CBM (the whole reason I was here, and I didn’t find one).

You…do realize an ice lab provides the ability to store food indefinitely since below freezing temperatures suspend all rot? Get to butchering and farming and have your own refrigerated warehouse.
Day one of the newest experimental: My starting shelter sucks. There’s another one nearby. Make a pointy stick to deal with the occasional zed that spawns in other shelter basements and head over there.
Great. Googly. Moogly. Jackpot. Tons of canned food and water, tons of clothing, 2 BACKPACKS!, sewing kits, batteries, a hotplate, bedding materiel, all kinds of awesome stuff! And a shrieker zombie, but stair kiting.
Ok, what’s the catch. There has to be a catch.Ok there are SOME fungoids outside but they’re not super dangerous and will eventually provide an unlimited source of cooking oil.OK there is some wreckage with some pretty awesome stuff free for the taking…Huh. I don’t see a downside to this at all…guess I’ll just go hunt some rocks to make a fireplace.
Night one: Into town.
Ok so there is a checkpoint over there but it’s on the road I don’t need to cross from my current shelter. Ok so I’ve got 3 hardware stores, 2 sporting goods stores, and 2 garages to loot, plus houses and groceries. Well…nothing seems to have gone wrong yet, no wild Shoggoths have appeared.
Cue Psycho theme.
This is the first time I’ve ever seen one of these. Ever. Since 0.8. And it happens to a decent character with an awesome start on the first night. Two questions:
What do?
Did Kevin put the AI director from L4D2 in without telling us or something? Because man, this feels like that moment when things have been going quietly and then it’s a horde mixed with chargers and spitters and jockeys all at once.
No, seriously, what the hell am I supposed to do about this with a new character? Just hope they don’t see me and be glad I know of their existence and come back later with enough firepower to take out an armored division? Burn everything to the ground? Say fuck it and move far away?

The dancers are mostly harmless, until you kill the thriller, and then they turn into hulks… all of them. Most character don’t survive. Also the dancers auto-regen until the thriller is killed.
As long as you don’t kill the thriller, and keep running, you’ll be fine.

You’re looking for a catch, a downside… keep looking. Seriously, this is a continuation of ridiculously good fortune. You can loot that town in broad daylight without fear and level up your melee and unarmed skills to your heart’s content.
Seriously, that’s a wonderful thing - it converts all the local zombies to harmless dancers. Continue your milk run, and I hope you find some challenge at some point, eh?
