What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

I have been pondering whether to post it to begin with, so far it’s stayed a private project of mine.

For now I’ve decided I’ll port over the innawoods and stone-age items I was adding, and leave the medieval stuff like shields for a separate project.

More primitive tool options would be nice to have. I look forward to seeing your PR.

Assuming I can figure where I’m to post it. =w=

Moving the save directory preserves worlds too.

yea… wouldn’t make much difference right now though. Until I get through these bee stings non of the new stuff is going to change my gameplay at all.

With a to hell with it attitude, I decide to venture down the mines. It has been a lucky run, perhaps too lucky. Started as a mall cop who just butchered the starting NPC after tazing him twice. Escaped the chaos of the mall, somehow found a public works 8 or so spaces south. East and west are two towns; east one medium sized, west one small, though a few more spaces east a bigger town - not sure how big it is yet, since I haven’t began to explore that area too much. In any case, both sides are less than ten spaces away in the map from my new public works base.

South… empty field… technically a minefield or two, then forest. Amazingly I haven’t had an incident of having a zombie even come close to the homebase. Was tempted to search for an evac shelter in a more remote area, but the public works had so many tools and goodies that I decided to stay. Met a random NPC during a night raid, wanted me to kill her mother for her. I decide to go for it, and hit jackpot. The house of that zombie mom had a basement with a gun storage, which had a Saiga and an automagnum plus the ammo for both. Later on I managed to get the jump on three zombie bio-operators via a good shots with a molotov, too.

And best of all, this was the first time in a long time that I didn’t start near a swamp, or a fungal zone, or a swamp with a nearby fungal zone. The only time I spawned near a refugee center was when I started at an evac shelter just next to a huge city, where the refugee center at the south was next to a swamp and a fungal bloom. Go figure. Also, apparently it seems that setting the floor under the npcs at the center won’t make them go hostile, and somehow they’ll keep trying to move back into their fiery spot until they die.

Anyways, back to the mine. I found a few nice CBMs… well, nice for me. I like the cranial flashlight and internal climate control and hydraulic muscles. At the bottom I was hoping for the thing and instead found the console. Since I’ve had a lucky run for quite a while now - barely zero danger at all despite seeing a couple of hulks hang around cars with light at night on towns, I decided why the hell now and trigger tremors. Before doing so I had a couple of preparations. Adderal, and some more int boost via the power of the atomic coffee.

Five horrors came out. Tossed a couple of molotovs to them, and started shooting with the automagnum. Dunno if the fires helped, but all the shots were grazing. Well, it was an attempt to chip away at their health while I waited for them to get close. And so I did battle with them with my best melee… a rapier. I also set up in advance some rags I got from butchering the nearby dead miners, and lit those up to burn them at close range.

And I won. Somehow luck won again, with a bit of on the fly planning. At most all I got was small damage on the torso somehow. And then I did it again. Tremor two. Less fire, and more waiting via the console, and this was the part where I got damaged.

Sadly I did not seem to get an artifact from this encounter. I killed both last horrors on non-burning tiles. Either way, I don’t think I can do a third, since that floor is surrounded by both smoke and fire now.

edit: somehow, my luck smiles upon me once more. Found another mine. Had a number of dark wyrms try to attack, and I’m almost out of bullets for my automagnum. Last floor was the thing… and in the space between my player and it, there was magma, and he ran through it to get to me. Tentacle dog died in one hit thanks to that, and I finished it off with the rapier. Man, makes me wish I picked the trait that lets my character start off with fencing.

Amigara horrors are touchy: you’ve got about 5-6 turns to kill them all if you want the artifact.

(If you can move away from the faultline and horrors are still alive, you took too long; conversely, if “your obsession with the faultline fades away” or somesuch when you kill the last one, you’ve got a prize waiting.)

That probably explains it. I pretty much waited around the console for them to make their way towards me, plus the rapier did 30 damage on average so killing them took quite a while.

…I just cut up a large stack of thread and somehow salvaged a single rag from it.

Going through the most boring lab run ever, in terms of mutations and bionics. No mutagens, no serums, bionics are either the cranial flashlight or alarm system, which my player already has. Cloning vats have no arms and legs to eat. Decent amount of power storage due to a large amount of zombie scientists hanging around, though, so there’s that.

Turrets are so far not killing me. Whenever I open the door where they are, they don’t seem to get the first hit in, leaving me enough time to blast them in one shot with a shotgun, and since the lab isn’t an area where I gotta be worried about noise too much, I’m just using up my surplus ammo for everything.

Hah. I love whomever put this in.

… I love that note. I want to glue it to my portable bunker. And leave one in every town I drive over.

Finally found a lab, (2nd time ever, 1st time I got turret splattered on 2nd level down). 5 levels down. It was -95F. Even powered armor wasn’t enough to handle it. Time to make some serious cold weather gear, as running up and down is stupidly boring. at Least so far nothing in there can remotely harm me since the LACP Pistol shoots through glass.

God I’m so busy IRL atm. Moment I come back to cata and we’re in 0.C already. Well done chaps and chapettes! Love the new features. Don’t have much time to do anything myself though. 12 hour night shifts and all that.

Day 20, Spring. Find a military cargo truck at a checkpoint. I seem to be laser painted by… Oh dear.
Day 26, Summer. My legs have healed. Came back at night and got my revenge. Salvaged tank drone for parts.
Day 30, Summer. Leave my fortified Electronics shop in the Land of Hope and Glory, my Military RV in search for the promised land a gunsmith.

Day 63. Autumn. First lab exploration of the new build. Can’t seem to find the recipe for some thermo-electric panties or a union suit, so…

Day 64. Yeah, I’m freezing to death. I’m also lost, bleeding and alone. I can no longer find my way back to the surface.
Turrets have reduced my fine armour to nothing more than shredded rags.
My rucksack made the most noble of sacrifices, soaking up enough bullets to protect my flimsy frame from certain death. he died in the line of fire. :frowning:

I write to you now from the burning hazmat zombie corpse that serves as my campfire. My last slice of pizza I fear shall be my last meal.
I cannot bring myself to salvage my bloodstained french maid outfit for more food for the flame. It, and the flame are my only remaining solace in this cruel, cold world.
I must find more corpses to burn.

New game, bionic patient, 10x zombie spawns. Made it out of the hospital after killing almost 100 zombies, had four deep bites so far, but as I was in a hospital I had plenty of painkillers, antibiotics, disinfectant, and first aid kits. Managed to deal with those issues without a problem. Made it out with over 80 zombies chasing me including two brutes and six soldiers. Found a halfway-intact solar car and got ambushed by a moose that tore half my clothes off and almost killed me before I punched its brains out. Desperately searching for food and drink before I die of hunger/thirst.

Hoping to find a knife, pot, and a few bottles/jugs, and maybe a funnel.

Somewhat odd. There’s a kinda large town, mostly houses. Northeast is the refugee center, and a tiny distance south is a cluster of houses, and there doesn’t seem to be zombies at all. At night I encountered nothing. No sound either. And when I went there during the day, still nothing.

I just got super creeped out last night.

I was given a quest by the starting NPC to find a religious relic. I see a cathedral on the map and I’m like, “Easy peasy. There’s always a relic in the basement.” So I head over and sneak into the basement. I had just started and didn’t have a flashlight so I’m stumbling around and see another @ down there. I think, “Whoa, never saw a survivor in the basement. I should 'C’hat him up.” But I only talked to myself. So I try to walk into him thinking it’d ask if I really want to attack WhatsHisName. It didn’t I just hit it. And it didn’t hit back. Eventually I examined it and saw that it was a “blank body”. There were about a half dozen down there. Stumbling around in the darkness. I didn’t know they existed and it really was this weird moment of, “Oh, another human, yay! Wait, what? UALGHALKHSGA!?” I grabbed the relic and run the fuck away. Stupid starting NPC died to a giant wasp right after I completed his quest so I didn’t get anything good except his corpse.

I had somewhat a similar feeling when I encountered that. Didn’t have a quest at that time, and so I didn’t know what to expect when I first saw the cathedral. Like the first few locked doors in that place are fairly mundane.

They’re not hostile, but the setting of the place was certainly damn unsettling. Same with encountering the human snails. Like… ergh. Doesn’t help that I was utterly out by the source material.

Meanwhile in my own adventures, trying and failing to get my companion to switch from her empty gun to the bow and arrows I gave her. >w>

Started a new game with today’s experimental to see how skill rework changed the game.

Survivalist in a middle of nowhere, three wolves in line of sight. Good thing there’s the starting NPC, too. She killed two of them and I ran like hell. Walked down the road to the radio tower 5 map squares away, there’s a f*cking SOLAR CAR in nearly mint condition sitting next to it.

Wonder what will be next?

<Probably the best start I’ve ever had lol>
