What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

The current system is a minimal implementation, at some point we might evaluate the various characteristics of your mutations to determine if you’ve changed enough that turrets get confused and mistake you for an animal.

And at the moment turrets can target animals too, so this might go away entirely.

Or we can make them not target animals.

Foolish question: what kind of mutations in the medical geneline would actually make a post-thresh medical mutant look nonhuman to a turret’s targeting system, anyway? Pain Junkie? Cenobite?

Turret targeting uses IR and some other metrics as well, so weird stuff like Deadened, Cenobite (presumably scarring), Infection Immune, etc might throw it off. Not so much horns and fur, but “uh, that’s some weird life signs there, if that’s human it might wanna see a doctor”.

So yeah, be glad I haven’t reverted this one.

I don’t know, that seems to be kind of stretching it. Why would something minor like scar tissue dissuade a tank bot, but not several layers of IR masking armor or the thermal underwear which would also significantly change our infrared signature?

This happened yesterday…
Excerpt from Claire’s journal:
"… As I was removing some of the heavier items from the cart, a zombified dog made an appearance, and started charging at me. I only had time to get one arrow off, which grazed the dog without slowing it down much. As the dog lept for my throat, I dropped the bow and drew the katana, swinging it wildly in front of me. The blade went through the dog with almost no discernible resistance, and the residual momentum put me off balance - which wasn’t helped when the back half of the dog slammed into my chest, and I sat down hard with a dog butt in my lap. Fortunately, the back half of the dog wasn’t particularly dangerous at this point, since the front half had just landed about fifteen feet behind me. …"

The RNG gods hate me! I tried a new build, a Survivor build staring out in a Cabin. I have static NPC’s on, so there’s the one there with me. A squirrel or some other such critter was nearby, and she had a flamethrower…

My external building (I think it’s a garage or shed or something) was engulfed in flames before I realized what the hell was happening. I’m in a forest too, this may not end well.

Because it’s not just scar tissue. A post-threshold Medical mutant’s physiology is so out of whack that their vital signs are nowhere near normal human levels.

For Pete’s sake, their endocrine system constantly secretes prescription-grade painkillers directly into their bloodstream.

I’m possibly on one of my most luckiest run to-date…

I started off on the Experiment Scenario, and went to the map view, and saw ‘Barn’ with the Forest Icon, I was curious about that and went to it. and Holy crap I got lucky…

Altough, I wish this was near a lake or something for fishing but eh,
I guess am asking too much now am I?[/size]

my current survivor/ failed cyborg has spent the last 17 days ( 91 day seasons) scavenging the parts and know-how to build his own charcoal forge, crucible, anvil etc. To great success. He’s managed to from scratch smith a survivor machete from scratch. The local town is fresh out of zombies after the slaughtering. Which was mercifully small enough to manage. With plenty of triffids and an anthill the other way. With a lab to the north. Plenty of opportunities for future looting. But for now. Shore up the evac shelter more. Build crates and smith plenty of charcoal. With plenty more houses to fully loot in the nearby town. The biggest local threat being hostile survivors. Also working on learning the Hand Loaders Helper. And when morale allows. Survival under Atomic attack. Some fantastic recipes in that.

next big goal after base is secured from would be looting npcs: A foray to the northward lab with my newly acquired lab cards. Possibly tear apart these working vehicles I found and reassemble into some sort of death machine.

My latest character build has proven to be quite challenging. I’ve had to restart multiple times now after being royally screwed by the RNG. (In the interest of full disclosure, I’ve turned off the limit to the number of character traits one can take for the sole purpose of designing characters who are more fun to roleplay as.)

Amelia LePine is a smart, energetic ten year old from Three Lakes Elementary School.

STATS:

STRENGTH: 6
DEXTERITY: 12
INTELLIGENCE: 15
PERCEPTION: 12

TRAITS:

Addictive Personality - She’s got a very powerful sweet tooth. Candy, Chocolate, Soda… it’s a coping mechanism.
Animal Empathy - She loves animals, and they love her back. Her cat, Mr. Muffin=Britches, is her only family left.
Asthmatic - Doctor Falkner said that she would grow out of it. Now she doesn’t know if she’ll live that long.
Clumsy - She’s a terrified, gangly, awkward young girl. Accidents happen.
Fast Learner }
|-- Amelia is an excellent student, consistently performing at the top of her class.
Fast Reader }
Frail - She’s 10 years old.
Heavy Sleeper - It’s a rare gift when your child actually LIKES bedtime. It’s a little more worrisome when she sleeps through the fire alarm.
Pacifist - All the death and chaos around her weigh heavily on her morale.
Packmule - School life has taught Amelia how to properly fill a backpack.
Pretty - Given a little soap and water, some clean clothes, and someone to wipe the tears and snot away…
Quick - ADHD, energy drinks, caffeine, and no adult supervision.
Spiritual - She doesn’t really know what to believe anymore, but she’s trying…
Stylish - She’s 10 years old. Life’s all about having the shiniest hair-pins and the coolest sneakers.

She pretended to be sick on the last day the schools were open, which is the only reason why she’s alive while all her friends and classmates are zombies. Her parents are missing, the town is overrun, and the National Guardsmen that brought her to the shelter haven’t come back since their last trip out for supplies. She’s been left alone in the care of fellow survivor Samella, a quiet woman with a makeshift knife-spear and very little idea of what they should be doing to stay alive.

Amy has a plan, though. She’s got to find a library, and some books. They made books about how to survive this sort of thing, right?

That is one brilliant kid. What profession did you pick for her? One of the new ones?

Her profession is Elementary student. I’d never seen it before, and it seemed like a fun twist on my usual playstyle. She’s completely useless in melee, which means I’ve had to get used to using ranged combat.

I added that one! (She might also like Science Club Member or A/V Club Member if you ever roll her again.)

With her Dexterity, she might not be useless in melee if you can find a strong, light weapon like a hatchet or one of the better knives. On my Str 6, Dex 12 bratling, I also had luck with a nailbat, though she also had Tough and Pain Resistant, so she had a much larger margin of error to work with.

Tried Liberal Crike Squad. I bate it when a game looks real fun but i really need time to learn its mechanics. That is the only thing i don’t have.

:o

This makes me wonder if turrets wouldn’t actually see Medical mutants as being humans on a shitload of drugs. (Which is probably not too far off.)

Yeah… being frail means that poor little Amy only gets to make one mistake before she’s got to really consider booking it out of there. And it’s also quite frustrating that she can’t drag anything around… all those horribly placed bookshelves and tables. Ugh! But she’s got brains, and eventually I’ll re-unite her with at least one of her parents so that anything involving heavy lifting can get done. But for now, she’s stuck with an NPC and fending off zombies with a pistol.

-looting a library at night, entered through the side

-found some good books, left through the front door

-a hippie van had its lights on, revealing a military roadblock in the street

-dead soldiers and a cargo truck in good condition can be seen

-I step out into the light to loot when suddenly:

“Those red dots don’t seem very friendly…”

  • I immediately step back into the library, thinking it’s a turret

-a few turns later:

“Chicken walker spotted!”

-I don’t have any guns or explosives on me

-it can’t see me in the library, so I prepare to leave out the side when suddenly the hippie van’s lights go out

-now stuck in the middle of town, at night, with no guns, and a chicken walker that I have no idea where it is
