What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

No problem. I just added it recently.

Well I just had a short, successful but fun survivor meet his end.

Day 1 found fitting swat armour and a fireaxe. Survived a few brutes punching him about the next few days. Cleared a megamall with the axe and a scavenged simple flamethrower. Ran down a shocker brute with a police car. Which sadly killed the engine. Literally nothing there where the engine should be now. Then got killed when he got woken up by another shocker brute that got into my safehouse in the night then proceeded to punch me through the wall and into a pack of zombies that were outside. Who proceeded to tear him apart. Oh and he also LAW’d another survivor to death that turned hostile and had an automatic rifle. There’s no kill like overkill.

Rough way to go. :frowning: Did you board up the windows and stuff before going to sleep? I make a point of doing that or something like it if for some reason I’m sleeping in an unsafe area.
I did! And closed everything I could Was snoozing in an armchair with blanket and the brute shocker smashes in through the boarded window like the cool aid guy and punches me through to the friendly neighbours. The RNG is an arbitrary master as ever.

And thanks Catfoodbob. Yeah It was comical for me at least. If I had found a basement i’d have definitely slept down there though.

Currently on day 2 of a new character. literally surrounded by swamp. The initial wildlife and triffids were busy killing each other thankfully. So I lured zombies in from the nearby town to join the battle royale forming. Lo and behold a few gun happy npcs spawn to join in too. I ended up being able to butcher a triffid queen and A bunch of zombies and run back to the safe house to go start crafting my armour from sheets and salvaged clothes of the dead. Plus a knife spear. Day 2 dawning and it;s time to foray further into the city. Also there is a fungal bloom in the swamp less than 10 map tiles off. So many possibilities for profit and death.

Fear the mudman.

I smell a cleansing fire coming.

Was playing on 10x Zombies when I ran into a Tankbot, I went to grab my trusty A7 Laser Rifle when the zombies swarmed all over the tankbot and surrounded it… it was a beautiful sight, half the town had collasped from the zombie vs tankbot vs me fight.

I did the refugee centre missions, and now tankbots and turrets don’t consider me a threat for some reason, it get a message that they see me, but are ignoring me at the same time.

Did you mutate beyond a threshold?

Two weeks in, finally saw my first town. Failed at getting there due to getting distracted by the two military wrecks, five mi-gos, and fourtyish drug-covered corpses. Got more sinew than I know what to do with now, and ready to hit town and get a vehicle and some decent equipment.

Found a pickaxe and jackhammer in a second farm, though I couldn’t bring the jackhammer with me, as it was both too large and useless at the time. Did finally score a backpack and a gallon jug though.

My days of hiding in a hole in the ground are nearly over! As long as the hordes don’t get me at least.
You don’t have to smash windows to get string; you can just examine them with the curtains closed and tear off the curtains.

Also, remember that if you can’t find a string to make a stone knife, a withered plant found in underbrush will now do.
That’s a great tip or two!

Yes, Prototype(Medical).

I just finished a mini adventure.

It all started during the usual exploration runs I do, taking the streets back from the zeds, one block at a time. I’m currently looting all sorts of wonderful and weird gun modifications to complete my arsenal of overly tacticool weapons. Naturally, I’ve been hitting every gun store on the map for their delicious bullets, mods and guns, adding to my already over sized stockpile of ordinance that I’m never going to really use. After hauling all the useful ammo out of the latest gun store, I paused to study the map and plan a route through the city to the next store. I remember looking at the map and thinking to myself; ‘Man, if all the houses were gun stores, this would be a whole lot more straightforward’.

Then it dawned on me. Some houses have basements. Some basements have guns. So began my new quest of kleptomania, breaking in to everybody’s house to steal all the firepower that appealed to me. I made some great progress; after looting all the guns that weren’t safely secured (and hacking open every safe of the guns that were) I had a pile of weapons to rival most armouries. Then I found something… strange.

In one particular basement, I noticed something wasn’t quite right. One of the walls was illuminated, even in the pitch blackness. This didn’t make any sense, something was lighting that section of wall up and a brief investigation of the entire basement revealed no source of the light. I run up to the surface to my vehicle, grab my jackhammer and head downstairs to find the answer to this mystery. I walk up to the illuminated wall, cross my fingers, then activate the jackhammer:

Well that explains that, but the mystery gets deeper. After knocking the wall down to the center of the Earth, I distinctly hear laughter. Loud, almost evil, laughter. I look out over the broiling lava, half expecting to see some sort of Nether demon to have made the rift his new home. There’s nothing there. Puzzled, I activate the jackhammer on another section of wall to give me a better view of the surrounding area.

I hear it again! Loud and confident laughter. And it’s coming from the direction I just mined. Intrigued, I continue taking down sheer rock walls to find the source of this laughter (It’s got to be a demon from hell, there’s no other explanation. I mean, there’s fire and brimstone everywhere right now) I keep digging through the rock. It’s long work, the demon must be a long way away. Then jackhammer runs out of fuel. No matter, I return with a jerrycan full of gasoline. I will find the answer to this mystery!

After toiling for far too long, I find the answer. Disgusted, I save, exit, log onto the forums and make this stupid post.

Ten minutes of juggling a jerrycan later, I realise the source of the laughter was my Jacqueshammer. God. Damn. It.

Ok, art people, could someone PLEASE draw a shocker brute yelling OH YEAH and smashing full body through a wall.

Hmm, maybe we need a Jewelry Fan trait for folks who can wear 3 or more of the same necklaces, bracelets, etc and still look good.

Rerolled.

Eaten by a bear on day 1.

Now I’m watching 8 badgers trying to attack a blinky which has managed to get surrounded. Over 10,000 miss notices over a night of sleeping.

Yes, Prototype(Medical).
That’s strange. I wouldn’t have thought that post-threshold Medical mutants would actually look nonhuman, at least not to the point that turrets wouldn’t recognise them as human.

Sadly my swamp dwelling survivor died from a serious case of shotgun to the face from another survivor. nasty illness. but not before he had smithed his own katana and slew half the nearby town.

Currently on day 5 partially surrounded by forest. On day 1 found a roadblock just down from the shelter. Lured zombies into the turrets till they got taken down. butchered everything. Salvaged a working cop car. over the following days foraying into the suburban neighbourhoods and grabbing supplies and tools. Got lucky and found a sledgehammer on a zombie. used it to break into the nearby gun store. Now got a trusty 45 calibre pistol and 100-150 rounds for it. Which I used to great effect taking out a hulk. Now retiring back to the evac shelter to heal up, repair and plan where else to loot next. Also found a local restaurant guide in a car and it;s help illuminate all the built up areas. Quite the urban sprawl going on with double city size. I like it. Decent stretches of wilderness as well to play with and explore, also.

Edit; Died to a survivor setting fire to me in my sleep with a full flamethrower. SO MUCH EXPLOSIONS FROM ADJACENT AMMO. Which thankfully killed him in the process as the rounds flew around cooking off.

Currently having more trouble finding water than anything, but immediately after spawning and checking the basement of the shelter I stepped out onto the road and found myself in possession of a solar car in decent shape. Found myself a couple of gun basements(which unfortunately lacked a decent melee weapon for use with Eskrima) and looted a Scar-L and some mods which helped a lot because of some particularly rough spawns(I’ve killed two brutes, a master, a necromancer, and a couple of survivor zombies and I’m still on Day 1.) I’m pretty banged up but I’ve got ammo and my pain levels are managable with aspirin. Pretty much just filling my bags up with stuff at the moment and dropping it off at the shelter.

Be nice to find a kukri or machete or something, once I find a couple of funnels or something I’ll probably just dump some gallon jugs and get my mechanics and tailoring up before deciding what to do next. Or I’ll get knocked through a wall by a brute/hulk and die a terrible death like usual, but it’s going well thus far and I’ve been making out pretty well with loot apart from only finding one bottle of water. Eskrima and a couple points in melee and cutting weapons always make for a good melee start provided you’re careful though. My problem is more often supplies or getting overconfident.

Edit: Solved the water problem literally five minutes after posting that. Three gallon jugs on rotation, adding more anytime I find more milk. Got cocky and ran into town during the day, even knowing there was a Hulk lurking around, found a gun basement again, and got all woo when I found a combat knife and decided to brave the smoker and survivor zombies in order to check on some more loot and found… a nodachi. 50 cut damage? Mother of God, I am now death come to zombies. I got cornered looking for a trenchcoat in a clothing store across the street by said hulk, and emptied a magazine at him before whipping out the nodachi as my last measure resort. It knocked him around(and it is nice to knock other stuff back a square or two for once) and made short work of him. Now I need to somehow grind my tailoring up enough I can get AT LEAST some leather armor on, but I’ve got a few square blocks of materials I can grab up, just need to grab a shopping cart and get to cutting. Food is entirely a non-issue at this point, and water will only become an issue if I run out of batteries. At least I can drop stuff in a decent amount of time now, my switchblade has probably killed ~60 Z’s at this point.

But really… NODACHI.

-Started new game, made my base a cathedral

-Life’s good, on day 4 I decide to go check out a megastore to my southeast

 • Maybe 20 or so meters southeast of the cahedral, I stop and wonder, “Why is there a trail of blood so close to my base?”

-Gets closer, body temp. increases rapidly

-It was surface lava

-Cooked a burrito over the surface lava and ate it

You call me Experiment 46.

Am I no more than a number? A ghost of a soul, the culmination of forty-five tragedies? Their gift to me is in knowledge - I feel their thoughts, their lives, burrowing under my flesh. I feel the surge of muscles and tendons, and they move with a power and confidence only strengthened by death.

I have outfitted myself in accoutrements that please me. You spy me with your cameras, with your satellites. I am an invincible Goddess; look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair. Was this world’s destruction worth all your science?

You know of my engine of destruction. My valiant Sleipnir, my Shadowfax. I am Death, she who rides the pale horse.

Even your inventions have become mine.

I know this is the first time I have contacted you directly. Do not expect it to occur again. When you next see me, it will be in person. I am the avenging angel of my sister-selves, and their blood is on your hands.

Here. Have a burrito. It’s on the house.

Aside from the weird physiology probably messing up IR imagery and scarring from pain/regen mutations, perhaps. Was an open question and I opted to restrict turret-targeting to Alphas.

Abbysynth: Nice char, good taste in jewelry. Dunno if you’re taking burrito orders or not.
