I’m surprised Valpo didn’t go for Fox master race.
Anyhow, tazers are much more useful than most people give them credit for. Sure i burned through 300 batteries, but i managed to survive an enounter with a rob-on-sight survivor wielding a flamethrower, unscathed.
Theres no MUTCAT_VULPINE .
Considered and rejected as insufficiently distinct from Lupine.

Hey, uh, I dunno about that. The Doc–we kinda aren’t supposed to mention xyr name, um–Some researchers tried making a variant-critter mutagen once and, uh, it wasn’t pretty–nobody goes in that wing anymore. I don’t think the brass is gonna go for a fox mutant just because you stuck another eight tails on it.
Seems like a serious neurology, muscular, and sensory issue, not to mention hell on grooming.

Ah, I think we better decide this conversation never happened.

That’s a reference to Elf-a’s unauthorized testing killing subjects (commonplace in XEDRA) and contaminating the lab with hard radiation (labs are not expendable). The lead researcher was terminated and the project buried but NOBODY DROPS MAIAR INTO LAVA.
And OOC, yeah, without magic or on-demand shapeshifting (not available in DDA, or at least not to the PC–the Thing kinda has it) I’m not sure what else there is to make a kitsune worth playing. Feel free to make the argument, though.
Something hollow bones, some kind of lupine equivalent of avian-
Okay screw it, i got nothing pragmatically considerable to pose.
At least, there could be feasible “varieties” of mutations that are only superficially different, eh? Things like, -animal- ears and… fur/scale colors or something. Maybe have a special mutagen that instead of adding mutations, only shuffles or changes them towards a particular grouping.
May have minor effect changes but the main visual would be just flavorful asthetics. Then people can be doxes or whatever else in lupine, or be a difference between a beaver and a rat down the rat line.

Personally I think we need to kinda stay away from anything that strays too far from realism, The Elf-A is kinda pushing it as is… …sadly this also means no naga-line but I guess I’m gonna have to live with that even if it means keeping the hate down on the forums…
That said, it’d be nice to be able to mix-n-match similar trees again, I remember when you used to be able to combine Spider and Insect and create some kind of horrifying Wasp/Spider.
Then again Scorpions are technically Arachnids so “Spiked tail” might be better in Spider rather than Insect since spider’s threshold name is Arachnid… …thinking outloud.
I kind of feel that having asthetically different mutations isn’t anywhere near as unrealistic as slime mutations. Same goes for nagas.
What actually is called into question is the standing of such as a game mechanic, as people may call sifferent thresholds between lizaed and naga redundant, for instance.
Wait, you can’t mix and match mutation categories at all?
On-topic: loaded all my shit into the back of a flatbed truck and drove it to the new evac shelter I planned on making into a new base. Then discovered there is a portal literally five map tiles away. FML.

You can mix and match mutations up to a certain point, once you’ve crossed a threshold you can’t cross any other thresholds. So don’t jab yourself if you’re getting too close to a type you don’t want.

Oh, OK. I recall post-threshold mutations being exclusive to other thresholds, but I was wondering if someone was talking about pre-threshold mutations, here. That’s fair. (I will say, under no circumstances would I feed anyone without Robust Genetics any mutagenic anything except for alpha mutagen, at least until they roll Robust Genetics as a mutation.)
Well, time to find another evac shelter(or other good base location) and this time scout around the damn thing before moving. It’s not uncommon to find some less desirable tiles near wherever you decide to set up shop.
Found a suit of power armour and a power armour frame on a random soldier zombie in a FEMA camp 5 minutes into a new character and got a railgun CBM off a zombie scientist not two minutes later so now I’m trying to find a lead lined bunker to hide from the inevitable karmic backlash from my good luck
(Plot twist: subway line near lead-lined bunker contains flaming eyes, who give zero shits about lead)
I wouldn’t be surprised at all haha, though I’ve never actually been damaged by their eye blasts of doom aside from once where they sheared my car in half and I took damage in the resultant crash. Honestly at this stage I’m pretty sure flaming eyes can’t hurt you except by making you more vulnerable to other nasties.

Might want to move this to the mutation category thread. Short version: Mutations are B-movie/comic book science, so there’s a certain amount of quasi-realism involved.
Finally gotten a good run going (in 0.B stable, I’m not gonna dink about too much with the Experimentals until it’s closer to a stable 0.C release).
Relatively quiet corner of town, although I’m gonna have to clear out some zombie kids from the park across the street, and I’ll need to clear out the buildings nearby as well.
Having the grey fur mutation in my list of moth mutations is going to be somewhat inconvenient come the warmer months, since I might start overheating a bit with my current clothing, so finding cooler clothing while maintaining decent storage will be important soon.
However, display racks spawned… in the walls. I am able to grab them and pull them out of the wall to the outside of the building. Clearly, it is nether madness!

Meanwhile, i am looking for a bicycle pump. Why arent these darn things craftable? Bleh!
I had my first animal invasion yesterday (the character is dead now because turrets don’t open fire immediately, giving him time to walk along a wall and cut himself off).
I had gone to sleep after finding a machete in the basement of a wasp house and dreaming happy thoughts about it replacing my hatchet. All of a sudden, a bear woke me up very rudely with his claws. My machete took offense, and killed him in 3-4 swings. I butchered him, and went back to sleep after boarding up the window he had broken through.
Well how would your average survivor go about crafting a bicycle pump?
You mean like crafting bootleg fusion packs, mini nukes, gunpowder from scratch, massive rolling death fortresses, and pnumatic assault rifles?
