What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

So many times coming across this book and it just hit me.

Principles of Effective Communication.
Requires level 3 to understand.

The irony!

Day 3 of a 91 day winter.

“Your have gained the heat depend\ent mutation!”

“Your heat dependent becomes very heat dependent!”

Me: “fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu…”

I have just discovered that trying to survive in doors in the winter when I am constantly producing webs is kind of annoying. <.<

I made it to Spring, Day 1… Year [glow=red,2,300]2[/glow] Woot! (Default 14 day Seasons, for the curious… Winter sucks!)

The RV is coming along nicely; had to correct a small newbie mistake on my part. I had installed 4 solar panels. Not so much a rookie mistake there as it may seem, really… Other then the fact that I had installed them on the Inside of the car… Whoops…

Everything is Spiked Plating covered, have a nice ram of spikes on the front end and a windshield composed entirely of Reinforced glass. That was a pain in the hinder… I had to go and scour the town for Bleach to make the superglue! Found 2 jugs of the stuff though, which was awesome. That’s 60 tubes of Superglue I can make with that much bleach! Whipped those up on the RV’s chemistry station, which I built myself.

I still have a significant part of the southern section of town to go delving through. I’m sort of in the process of consolidating my stuff right now. The evac shelter worked great as a base; I’ve been using the lockers and such to sort and store my things. I think I have a bit of a hoarding problem in Cataclysm, there’s just so much STUFF that one day could be useful, somewhere, somehow… I’m thinking it’s about time to move onto the next town, though my concern is that last time I was there, there were ALOT of big white Z’s roaming around, Dancer Zombies. I’m very concerned about this, I’ve heard the horror stories.

I also found a suit of light (or was it basic? I’m not sure) power armor; though I’m concerned about the battery requirements it appears that it may need.

By the way, how does one go about making screenshots? Every time I try it just gives me a shot from the desktop, which isn’t helping. Do I need some kind of third party program such as Fraps or one of the many streaming/recording programs?

Just found an A7 laser rifle in the first lab I visited after getting my PR in. I’ve tricked it out a lot, every mod slot is taken except for two of the accessories slots. It would be nice if the item browser had a way to look at gun mods.

Hacky method: Search for “:”, the symbol for gun mods.

Since my cataclysm crashed and I haven’t yet gotten around to re-launching it, I tested that search. Random clicking ended up with me finding out that, according to the item browser, you can use a V8 engine to make moonshine mash. Now I’m going to have to launch to game to find out if that is possible in-game.

OK, but I wanted to sort them by location and the browser doesn’t even list that.

I’ll check what I can do about adding an easy way to check weapon mods on the item browser.

Any other suggestion?

“From the North West you hear a huge explosion!”

Suddenly, in the middle of an empty field, there’s a large fire with scrap metal and steel lumps/chunks around it.

What just happened?

Ugh.

I’ve been having a Groundhog Day -esque experience. Because I’m happy with the character and the spawn, and I’m trying to learn from my mistakes, I’ve been save scumming. Pretty much daily in game. Except that I keep screwing up. The severe cold gets to me and slows me down, and the zombies eat me if I aggro even one or two of them. Alternatively, I decide to make a break for the gun store, only to discover that the metal door is not a door I can use a pry bar on, and very quickly die while running between cars looking for a working one to run over the horde I seem to have attracted.

Also thirst. I apparently get thirsty really fast.

Vehicle parts, as in the installed kind and not just items, would be really nice. Currently, I think the only way to get that info is reading the json. I’d like to add an option for that in game soon.

So your having lots of fun

I am not sure though why you can t deal with a single zombie or 2.

As for the gun store: I thought I read somewhere you can use a picklock on those metal doors, so a makeshift picklock would be a good thing to make (I’m pretty sure it’s low on the totem pole for ingredients as well as skills needed)

Thirst: You probably already know this, but any toilet in the game can provide you with something to drink. You will have some nausea after drinking it though. e + direction on the toilet will bring up your list of empty containers that can hold water and be filled, if you have no empty containers when you ESC out of that screen, it’ll ask if you want to drink from your hands. Fortunately, there’s a way around the nausea. You can start a fire somewhere and then go into the & crafting menu and over to food. Find clean water. It’s a straight 1 to 1 recipe, 1 water becomes 1 clean water. If you have a gallon jug full of water you’ve taken from a toilet and an empty gallon jug in hand, you will fill up the spare with the clean water. You must have an empty container to pour the clean water into. The same thing will work if you carry a hotplate.

Also, if you come across a funnel, you’re set for water. (a)ctivate the funnel and supply a direction (outdoors) and you’ll set up the funnel to catch rainwater. (d)rop a container onto the funnel and it’ll collect water into said container. This happens automatically, and I never got sick drinking the water I gathered from my funnels, only toilet water. You can also craft a makeshift or leather funnel. It won’t gather the water as quickly as the normal funnel will, but they do work. It also worked well for me after I crafting up a large waterskin. It’s less volume than a gallon jug and holds more water (I think it holds 20, gallon jugs hold 15)

Yeah, I figured it out. Mostly what was killing me was improper awareness.

I made it into the gun store with the picklocks. Again, I ran to it, and a Brute and a bunch of others noticed me despite my care earlier. So I grabbed up a weapon and shot and killed the brute and the rest. The store was built like a fortress, provided they only banged on the windows. That took most of the day, so I spent the night in the store, feeling safe.

Only to find that overnight, the entire city of zombies had converged upon the store, and I was in a shootout for my life. Police bots had spawned as a result of me breaking in, and all the gunfire. And when I finally ran out of ammo, I decided to try and make a break for it, and got tazed to death by the four police bots that had shown up. I -did- manage to kill one before I left though, so that made me happy.

I decided to repair all the vehicles in the town that I could, using the wreckage vehicles for supplies to fix the other vehicles up. Why? Boredom and to make it easier to transport them to base to be taken apart. I want pristine parts none of those scratched shattered stuff.

I’m not sure how I plan on eventually killing my character, but I know its going to involved my MMFHOD.

move at night time. even without the bonus night vision stater trait( which is practixally required for me), you can still get away easier at night than day. run into a hulk or brute at night; empty a shotgun then flee his friends through a house, shurting doors behind ya. by the time they break out yer long gone.

The item browser now has gun mod information.

There is a now a Gun mod catalog (can be found on the homepage sidebar)

When viewing items it shows the possible mod locations.
When viewing mods it shows the possible types of guns it can be attached to.

I still have to check the vehicle parts suggestions.

Blackhawk Down just happened. Go scavenge the wreckage. Bring a shovel and clear up the rubble, there’s probably going to be some loot under it. I’ve found some pretty cool stuff in those scrap heaps, from MBR vests with all kinds of plating, to LAWs, to some rarer military CBMs.

Edit: Not to mention the sheer volume of free metal. You can always use more metal.
