I’ve recently started playing with Wandering Spawns on, and honoring my commitment to not save-scum. If I die, I’m dead.
So, naturally, this is the most chaotic and stupid-lucky game I’ve ever played. I’m eighteen days in now (out of twenty day seasons), and I’m doing fairly well. I started off as a lab-tech with an affinity for computers and mechanics. I have next to no armor, but I’m doing well with my quarterstaff and hoping to strap some blades to it once I scavenge duct tape. I looted a library so I’ve got plenty of reading material, and I found several supply drops with nonperishable foods and explosives. I also “fortified” a farmhouse with spiked pits around the entry, and have used it as my home since Day Two.
That’s the stupid-lucky bit. The downside… Trying to keep the pits spiked and fend off the zombies that constantly get past is an all-day activity. No matter how many times I board up my bedroom window, they crash through at night. It’s a battle of attrition, and the odds are not in my favor. I’ve started relocating my gear to a cave nearby, and I expect it should be a much safer location to sleep and stock up in preparation for winter. I’ve still got all of summer and fall to go, but I haven’t a single gun and the nearby town has a number of brutes, so turtling is a necessity.
