What's Happening in YOUR Randomly-generated Apocalypse?

Luckily it was just the side effects of drinking nothing but a large waterskin of atomic coffee per day over the better part of a month. I went naked and cold turkey, reading a few books by the light of a trashed cop car whilst waiting for the stimulants to leave my system. Still can’t sleep mind you, not even with a fistful of ambien, but I’ll get there.

Search for a blood filter cbm in labs.

Btw, a nice tip while raiding labs and night cities: you can turn your flashlight on and off without using movement points or alerting monsters! It consumes a charge each time, but is absolutely invaluable when you’re walking half-dead with a cart full of loot and you just NEED to know whether there’s a shrieker ahead.

I hope it’s feature, not a bug, 'cause it’s really really useful and saved my bacon lots of times, esp when playing a char based on myself (with no NV).

Oh, another thing: on moonlit nights zeds don’t seem to attack you even when you see them, but walk at least one tile inside a grocery store and the whole street comes a-knockin’. For some reason vision is enhanced when walking inside a building, both for you and all the mobs around.

Inside a building thing is a lighting bug.

Still have yet to sleep, which let me catch up on some reading and crafting with relative ease now that I can wear clothes without having a heat stroke.

Also seems I have far fewer asthma attacks the less I sleep. Good to know.

i lit a house on fire and to my suprise all that was left afterwards was rubble stone nails and the GLASS DOORS. I noticed i accidently left em open so i closed em to keep the cold out.

So, i decided i got bored, so i decided to dick around by giving myself a character with 20 in all stats, and nothing else, just to see what would happen.

Turn three into this character, and i quote:

“A piercing beam of light strikes fourth!”

Then i was deafened,
and the roof on my shelter collapsed.

What the fuck happened?

Did Marloss Man Reborn fear i was going to challenge his position?
Or what?

A flaming eye decided deemed you unworthy of a roof.

So he dropped it.

Flaming eyes are some of the most annoying non-hostile things. They just sort of go “Aaaand beam that way, teleglow THEM…”

Welcome unto flaming eyes. Stats: sees you through any obstacles, has attack range of ‘larger than reality bubble’ so as soon as one loads you’re getting attacked, primary attack obliterates walls in the way, and with how building-destruction code currently works, that immediately brings the house down on you! About the equivalent of having roof crash on you if you want to make a new doorframe in the IRL wall.

So, I’ve had my current character about a (realtime) week; He’s a survivor of the “really bad day” start, and he’s just finished his first year. He’s currently got a mostly-finished shelter made out of a remodeled garage, a nice garden in the back, a modified quad bike for looting runs, and is preparing for his first lab. And, he just had one of the most tense encounters that I’ve had in Cataclysm for a long time.

I had scouted reasonably far in all directions, but it so happened that I had apparently missed visiting an area about two blocks from my base. (I’d scouted it with binoculars, but never actually been down that street.) I was rolling through town in my cargo bike to try to swipe a kitchen from some wreckage, when what should pop into my distance vision but a roadblock…with a tankbot. I tried to hop out and swipe the part thinking that he hadn’t seen me, but within a few turns, a shell hit the wreckage. I tried to get out of his line of sight and try again, but shortly therafter a shell hit nearby, deafening me, wounding my arm badly, tearing up my light survivor suit, and putting me at over 100 pain.

I made a beeline for my vehicle, backed up, spun around, and burned rubber. Another shell missed me, but then, to my horror, I saw the tank’s targeting laser on me after I’d traveled almost halfway back to my base. The thing was apparently following me. Faster than I had thought it could. I swerved behind a building, and the shell never came. I then looped around and came back to my base, where I spent the next couple days healing.

However, I had a problem: The tankbot was still out there, and I didn’t know where. It might even be within sight of my base, and waiting to pick me off next time I went out to check on my garden. I had a weapon stockpile, but I did not have much that would easily hurt a tankbot (save one single LAW,) and definitely not at long range.

I spent the next several days hiding in my base, figuring out how to kill the thing. I made a heavy survivor suit, some exploding crossbow bolts, a smokebomb, a few other assorted things that go boom, and some light amp goggles. Eventually I went out at night and found it in the wreckage of a grocery store. It got off another shell which wounded me, but my one shot with the LAW was true, and the tankbot was obliterated.

Pretty good mid-game incident, if I do say so myself.

tanks are loud without any night vison you will see ? on your screen when you see it use amp googles to check what is it if its tank shoot your law and explosiwe bolts just do not use fire because it create light what can give away your postion

Yeah, apparently not a single gun-toting survivor-munching Big Robot in the 2070s has any kind of night vision. Weird, but true. Craft EMP grenades or regular explosives, figure out its position at night and you can take on even a chicken-walker or a couple milspec turrets easily. Just be cautious.

I transferred Marloss Man Reborn to a new world, even though I said I would wait for Mycus. Well, the transfer worked, but I somehow got around 3 times as much bionic power. I should hack that away later. Anyway, I got though, dropped all my packs and loot, and turned off Hydraulic Muscles.

Then I started seeing zombies appear. I checked the map to see that yes indeed, every zombie in a ten-mile radius noticed my hissing muscles and is coming for my ass. So here’s my survivor, just dumped off in an new world, already having to fight off hundreds of zombies. Fun fun fun.

turrets are easy with crossbow and steel bolts alslo weapon and ammo is cheap (crossbow trap) but tank only get 2 damage from my reflex recurve bow with wooden arrows

While I was hunkered down I was trying to read electronics textbooks to get the EMP grenade recipe, but I with no luck. Looking through the .json files, it seems the problem was that I mistakenly remembered the EMP grenade recipe as being autolearn, but it isn’t and I don’t have the right textbook. I haven’t been into a lab since one of the experimentals back in May, so I think I may want to make an effort to find it before I head in.

if you have book with emp grenade recipe just have book near you and it will appear in crafting screen (you do not need to read 1 book 20124213 to learn how to make chili con care anymore)

Yep, I know. I think I may have just neglected to grab the right one while I was raiding libraries.

Now that’s just unfair.
They should at least have a few chicken walkers in there to make it SOMEWHAT in favour of the zombies.

Right now I see a hulk, a master, and a shocker brute. Still no contest.

EDIT: Zombies in a horde only ‘drop’ into the real world when you shift from on world tile to another. I saw that I hadn’t been getting any more zombies for a bit, so I decided to go one map tile over. Suddenly, the game lags. When it unfroze, SO MANY ZOMBIES. HUNDREDS OF ZOMBIES.

Hey, what are your guy’s favorite mutation category?
Kind of bored right now.
