What's happening in YOUR randomly generated apocalypse? Part 2!

Over a month had passed since the battle that had taken place at the farm, a month and a half since the heli crash and for the first time since then Aimy felt whole and healthy, the time had been spent productively. With a helping ahnd from Halley the fortification of the farm had been progressing steadly but with her returning health had come a need to start properly scouting the area, leaving Halley to keep an eye on the farm Aimy had headed out to see what was what.
Luck was with her, while poking around at a regional dump she’d discovered a mil surplus humvee, heavily battered but still mobile. Most likely scrapped due to a leaky fuel tank, dodgy engine and the extensive bodywork required to meet legal requirements. The times being what they were however beggers couldn’t afford to be choosers and Aimy would of found it hard to deny it felt good to be behind the wheel of even ex military equipment.

Man it’s taken some time to get Aimy back up to a health condition, I ended up equipping her with a shield to soak up some of the damage and to protect her healing left arm. With some scavaging and cleaning I got together enough kevlar to equip both her and Halley in light survivor gear and I ended up dropping the combat knife for a nail bat, not exactly subtle but Aimy isn’t a subtle girl  and I’d been getting increasing numbers of armoured enemies to deal with.
I attempted a night raid to a nearby research lab but getting into the lab itself proved to be too difficult since I was under constant attack while trying to pickaxe though the wall in the storeroom, it wasn’t a total loss though as I came away with a lot of the tools I’d been roadblocked on (including said pickaxe :stuck_out_tongue:).
Now I just need to get my new ride home safely.

Edit:
Thought I’d show off the farms defences:

Edit 2:
I might have to abandon this save because I keep getting a seg fault thing when I save that is breaking the save, i’ve had it before but just dealt with it but this time it’s left me stranded in a lab far from my base and deleted my partner :expressionless:

I’ll try and get it to bug again so I can at least post it as an issue.

Luck was something Samuel believed had left him. He was forced from his education, pushed miles away from home by the end of the world, and he wasn’t even allowed underground at the evac center.

But, heavy rain brings good things in the end. He found an LMOE bunker out in the wilds while searching for another hole to sleep in on his path to nowhere. A comfy bed decked out with pillows and blankets, cooking utensils, tools for starting fires, weapons-- Everything a stranded adolescent could want for.

To say Samuel was right in the head would be wholly untrue. His moral code was more than shattered by the few days he spent in the woods, forsaken by the people who promised to help before the apocalypse. Now, he wanted to bring the pain to the harbingers of the end. He decided the best start would be to turn that shelter of lies into a smoldering pile of ash and singed flesh. But, for now, he needed to get his bearings. Food wasn’t going to catch and prepare itself, after all.

The engine of the heavily modified van rumbled to life, Aimy cheered loudly. “Roadtrip!” she yelled as she spun the wheel.

Well, after restarting Aimys journey she’s progressed to the point of doing up a van, it’s not my usual ride but it will do for now. Time for Amelia Delorisista von Humpeding II to hit the road!

Edit 1:
Aimy rolled her sleeves up and eyed the three vehicles with a critical eye. She had some work ahead but she figured it would be worth it in the end.

Bit of travelling later and I found a perfect candidate to transplant everything over to and a tank to strip parts off to bridge any resource gaps, best bit is both were largely isolated though the truck was guarded by a tank drone. Still not been able to get any mirrors though :disappointed:

Edit 2:
It had been a long couple of weeks but Aimy thought they’d been well spent, her new ride was similar to her old one but upgraded in nearly every regard. This was a vehicle she felt she could rely on “Damn, the boys in the engineering department would be jello if they could see my now…” she grinned at the thought.

Definitely upgraded in nearly every regard, heavy everything, composite armour everywhere, reinforced glass, armoured wheels, an extra (and better engine), rams, faster, better offroad stats and the kitchen unit and welder swapped out for the MetalMaster and KitchenMaster.

The Hobo with a Shotgun is back, and this time, he’s up against more than just the criminal underworld. It seems the real underworld filled those boots, and the Hobo is after the pricks that brought this about. Anyone with any affiliation with the Blob’s sudden appearance will meet their fate at the end of his Remington.

(Challenge ends upon the clearing of 5 labs. Shotgun is the only weapon I’m allowed to use. I also have to deal with the alcohol addiction from the hobo class.)

Shank and his gang of merry reprobates scurried through the hole they blasted, eager to get at the apartment complex. Unwelcoming noises from equally inhospitable hosts, however, gave the group a shock back into their senses, or what was left of them.

Four of the scavengers stood a few feet from each other, bows at the ready. Shank wielded a crude sword and wooden shield. Poor fortune up to that point left them under-prepared, but desperation had forced their hands. They needed anything they could find, and they each knew that facing danger might mean not having to spread resources as thin.

As the zombies approached, the archers loosed their arrows. Shank rushed forth, hacking and pummeling the undead. Addressing the welcoming comittee was within their grasp. However, the deluge of bodies tumbling out of the apartment was a much more daunting task.

Shank knew, they would be dead if they continued. He barked out orders to retreat, and ran towards their battered RV. After everybody stumbled in, Shank stomped on the gas and peeled out of there as fast as he could.

Something felt amiss though.

Peering into the aisle behind him, Shank saw 2 stowaways, 2 dead allies, and another 2 fighting for their life. Shank pushed the limits of the RV down the long straight road, then stood from the controls. He brandished his makeshift sword and shield. With rage fuelling him, he hacked his foes into a pulpy mess, not really regarding that he was currently barrelling down a road at deadly speeds.

Having expressed himself adequately, Shank returned to the controls. Noting that he was nearing their fortified house, he put the RV into a sharp turn, slid along the grass, and gracefully stopped in the parking space.

Between the losses incurred, and the actions detailed above, I feel like I kind of break even overall. A little badassery can make up for all sorts of rough patches. Well, it does in my book.

Aimy stared in disbelieve as she peeked over the edge of the silo, “Ok, zombies, giant acid spitting ants, weird pink alien looking mofos I sort of can accept but f***ing flying eyes??”. Quietly she dropped back down the ladder, wouldn’t want to catch their… draw their attention.

Well, this was unexpected, the suicidal kreck gave me a chuckle though.

I started a straightforward evac shelter run with an Otaku character. I put one point into mechanics so I wouldn’t have to grind that skill at the start, and role play it as my character learning a bit about cars and vehicles from her father.

Up the road from the evac shelter was a field campsite with two working motorcycles.

I started a secondary character with the horse archer profession & I think this was the friendliest start I’ve ever had. I chose to start on a ranch just because what’s a horse archer without a horse? Just another pedestrian, that’s what.

My first action, before talking to any possible NPCs or even moving one step, is to check the map to see if there any areas of interest that can help me out right out of the gate. To my surprise there was not only my starting ranch in the visible section of map, but ANOTHER ranch just to the south, a dairy farm a short walk through a field to the northwest and a gas station on the fringes of what I could see to the northeast!

Quickly surveyed the first ranch and found myself a trusty steed. Grabbed a bite to eat and gathered up my loot into a pile before riding out to the second ranch. After looting the second ranch house, I found a second horse in the barn there, then a wagon parked in the shed! Now I can carry ALL the loot from both ranches in one trip. I strapped both horses to the wagon, loaded up the loot and drove to the first ranch to gather up the treasures I left there, passing a heavy duty cargo truck with a dead battery on the way.

After weaving my horse drawn wagon through the fields to avoid smashing into bushes and boulders, I made it to the dairy farm. There’s a non-operational RV out front - parts for later I’m thinking. Going into the farm proper, there are crates with fertilizer, even more supplies in the farm house, a quad bike and cube van behind the farm house and cattle… Lots of cattle.

By lunch time on her first day, my horse archer has multiple shelters, loads of clothing to cut up for cloth & leather, a rifle she found in a weapon safe, a healthy stock of meds, plenty of food (mostly canned or dry, so it’ll last), a pile of books, seeds for planting, tools, a pair of horses to ride or pull her wagon, vehicles in various working order and thirteen head of cattle.

I didn’t plan on having a home base with this character. I figured she’d be more of a ranger type, but the gods of the apocolypse clearly had other plans for her.

Starting NPC is in possession of an erotic novel and a ‘massager’. I giggled. Apparently I’m still an adolescent sometimes.

What better way to spend your time during the end of the world then “relaxing”?

She didn’t know why she was here, the place had the look of age and abandonment. The clearing was… dead, the ground bare around some strange mechanism of unknown origin. A lift perhaps? or something similar? How something like this had come to be in american, how it remain undiscovered was a mystery. Pushing away the little voice telling her to leave hadn’t been hard, she’d always been curious. Curiousity might kill cats but she figured she still had a few lives banked, she dug down…
The place had been full of hazards, booby traps, creatues, the whole damn works, like something out of film or book. Aimy had persevered through it all, drawn by something she couldn’t quite grasp. Eventually she found herself walking down a long tunnel at the end of which she found two objects, a black cube and a simple ring. Despite the mundanity of the objects they seemed to warp and shift when she wasn’t looking at them directly, trembling slighty she reached towards them. As her fingers brushed the cube her vision seemed to expand, Aimy jerked back then reached out again, picking up the strange object. She could see all around her, unhamped by the darkness, the dust, the very walls… “F***” she breathed. Looking around suddenly, as if she felt eyes on her back she snatched up the ring and hurried out.

The ring gives out light and noise but the cube… the cube lets me see through walls, with no (obvious) drawbacks. It’s making me nervous, I don’t normally find such useful artifacts. I can’t help feeling the game is saving up karma to throw something really nasty at me.

The carnage around Aimy was a chilling reminder that her flight wasn’t the only one knocked out of the air on that fateful day, the airliner had plowed a massive rut into the ground before partially burying itself. Any that had survived the crash would of been torn apart by the reanimated dead. A terrible fate to contemplate.

First time I’ve seen this, it’s an impressive map special, props to whoever made it. I imagine if you managed to find and clear one of these out early game it would make an excellent base, lots of materials and an underground area.

Do you know what mod that crashed jet came from? It looks awesome.

I think it’s in the base game, I could be wrong though. Here is a list of all the mods I’m using if it’s not:

She didn’t really know why she was helping out the Hub guys, ingrained reflex to accept missions maybe? definitely wasn’t for the pay, the cheap B******s. The first couple of missions hadn’t been too bad, messy perhaps and she’d never look at a pair of forceps quite the same way again but acceptable. This time had been much more troublesome, the target had been a heavy damaged building to the northern end of the nearby town. The elevator was just… gone and she wasn’t brave enough or stupid enough to try climbing down a lift shaft. After a fruitless search for a maintainence stairway or the like she’d ended up just directly digging down under cover from her vehicles automated defences, “if I wanted to dig holes I’d of joined the engineers FFS…”. Much sweating and cursing later she’d broke through into the basement, the place had been choked with rumble and hostiles, weird conglomerate of dead body parts and the usual reanimated dead. Eventually she’d found what she’d been looking for, a nano template for some piece of tech she’d never seen before.
After all that effort they better pay better this time or she might just “donate” a sizable portion of her explosive collection…

Interesting place, dunno if I missed the proper route down, would of been quite a bit more difficult to deal with if it wasn’t for my Glorious Cube Of Seeing Through Stuff ™, hope the reward turns out to be worth it cos it was a real pain to get down here.

Update:
Fingers twitch towards the mini nukes…

Basil just finished clearing the town of the glowing things (shockers but he doesn’t know that yet). Maybe in the next day or two he can get that big assed RV over to where he and his buddy are hiding out. It has seen better day but oughtta do for now, once he fixes it up a bit more.

I know what I want to do with the RV but resources and luck will determine what can be done with it.

Edit: Got the RV back to the shelter, along with a battered pick up. now to see how long the food supplies will last before Basil needs to hit the road.

Working on a new game that I started recently, keeping a full daily diary of interesting developments. If it turns out well I’ll edit it up at some point and either post it here or in a dedicated thread.

Basil is doing well now, all things considered. He has a tendency to get wounded horribly due to a habit of underestimating the shamblers though.

Frankenstein’s Chariot, as he has dubbed the RV that is serving as home continues to evolve. As parts are damaged they are replaced by whatever is handy. And since he still cannot get the hang of how it handles in a turn it gets damaged quite frequently. Seriously, some of the bodywork is made from traffic signs at this point.

Had a run in with a couple of those too, even in RM 13 combat armour I was getting shot up pretty bad, would hate to have to face them undergeared.
