Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

You can disassemble clothing by (B)utchering it with a sharp object. (Knife, pair of scissors, ect.)

You need matches, a lighter or a flint and steel to start a fire (a)ctivate the item when it’s in your (i)nventory and pick the direction you want to light a fire in. Make sure it has something to burn like gasoline, a stick, or a house.

You need a mop and you have to (a)ctivate it. You can mop up pretty much any liquid with a mop.

Where is the report button? I’ve never felt the need to use it before, but the bots are creeping in, and I can’t seem to find it.

edit: nvm found it.

This stopped working for me a few experimentals back. FOODCO still works for purifying onboard water but the water purifier tile doesn’t have any context options.

No, but can be modded.

It isn’t the final value.

So that means times are going to get adjusted down later?

A small chance to instakill enemies through decapitation.

Things without heads are immune.
Is this a new feature? I’ve killed several of those things and didn’t gain anything from it.
It’s more than a year old.

What happens is that you only get the technique if you kill the jabberwock with a diamond sword. And only the sword you killed the jabberwock with will be able to perform decapitations.
Oh. That seems awfully specific.

I gather the alternative is activating the incorruptible sword? Same Vorpal ability?

Pretty sure it works with a diamond anything. And I seem to remember there being two or three non diamond things that it works for as well. I don’t remember which specific ones though.

Nah it only works with the diamond nodachi, zweihander, broadsword and katana. A few arcana mod weapons do have the technique from the onset, though.

I have a wonderful problem. I have 25 plutonium cells, 2 atomic lamps, a UPS as well as a UPS-powered chaingun that uses nails for ammo, and I have no idea what to do with any of it. I’m less than 10 hours into this character. I don’t even have level 2 cooking yet.

This character’s wielding an awl pike with chainmail armor, MBR vest, and survivor gear. A mansion is ~15 tiles away, and it has books that can bring my character up to 10 in what seemed like every skill. A run into a lab pulled 3 different science journals.

My base is set up at a ranch. I cannot see a single city - and I’ve explored 15 maptiles in each direction. I’ve seen a lab, tons of swamp, a mine, a prison, a football field, a FEMA camp, a subway entrance, a fungal tower…

So what in the world do I do with these 25 plutonium cells and atomic lamps and UPS? I’d love suggestions!

I have only used plutonium for atomic lamps. The rest I held on reserve for power storage cbms, and the recipe that you might have discovered in one of those journals.

For UPS’s, I get a UPS-recharging station and use it to create a UPS cbm or ups-compatible recharging mod. Some of the first things that I’ll attach a UPS to are an mp3 player, heavy duty flash light, mess kit, welder, food dehydrator, water purifier, and soldering iron. Soldering iron is important because I can use it to repair my heavy armor.

For your combination of items, that UPS cbm might be the way to go to get access to that chaingun.

Where can you get more ammo belts (the disintegrating kind)? I need some for my M2 Browning, now that turrets have their own special ammo/reloading system.

Can somebody explain the weather workings in basic so I can edit that json?

I actually have noticed a change in springtime weather, so I guess somebody beat me to it, butttt

15 map tiles isn’t much. Do you remember what your city spacing setting is? You might have to travel like an entire screen before you see another city. Just follow the roads.

Don’t get too excited about the books. They have requirements. A mansion is a great place to get some food and cooking equipment though, as well as books. Clothes too.

The chaingun sounds exciting. Never found one myself. Getting nails is bit tedious. I would look into the auto-pickup options, and add nails to it. Over time you’ll have a few thousand nails. Might find boxes of nails (100) in hardware stores or megastores.

Your gear sounds nice enough. Protect your head though, and you should be ready for modest melee combat. The FEMA camp could contain some juicy supplies, but it might have a dozen zombies and few zombie soldiers, which are decently armored. If your character is weak, damaging them could be an issue. Unless you have some proper AP ammo.

The lab requires a key card to enter OR enough force to break the concrete wall. I REALLY recommend finding a key card though… Explore the roads for the card. Labs are dangerous though, although the loot can be quite nice. The best stuff in the labs is in the bottom level, in a special room.

The roads are also great and safe places to explore. Often you find a lot of stuff close to roads. A vehicle is nice to have for exploring the roads.

Personally, I would loot the mansion, read whatever books I can, and then check out the FEMA camp. That should be pretty safe. And getting a car is a priority. Don’t mess with the fungal tower. Prison is pretty dangerous too. The mine you could explore just a bit. Don’t enter the mine proper, just check if there’s gear in the first underground room… assuming you can hack the elevator. The mine parking lot could have some vehicles too. The football field probably contains a small batallion of zombies, some moderately dangerous. Wouldn’t go there until later. Is there anything near the subway entrance? Like other buildings? Subways/sewers are fairly safe to explore. Just have a flashlight. Sewers often lead to cities.

Craft a makeshit crowbar if you haven’t already. Very useful item. You’ll need it to open crates and to lift sewer covers. Makes a nice first melee weapon when there’s no awl pikes or swords laying around.

UPS powered nail firing chaingun? What wizardry is this?

Is that a new weapon?

I’m thinking of building a large 2 story house, should I use cement or bricks?

Is it possible to build tall buildings now?

I didn’t test it, but the roof system might actually allow it, now that I think about it.

The one thing that may still not be buildable is the stairs, meaning you’d have to use ladders.

Well, as long there is a roof it should in theory work. But, in practice gravity wont happen, and without zlevels turned on you wont emulate other zlevels in realtime.

One of the single best uses for zlevels has so far been birds and other fliers. Theyre smart, and occasionally feel the need to attack or randomly path up and down.

Is there any way to fix glass items?

What other item materials cannot be fixed currently?

I’m playing the experimental from 2 days ago.

Maybe duct tape/basic repair kit?

If not, glass is infinitely available by digging for sand in shallow water. Personally, I have never done that.

I want to install a small engine into my mobile base, with the sole purpose of keeping my refridgerators running if I don’t have enough buffer in my batteries to last the night. What is the smallest engine that could power 3 minifridges at minimal fuel cost?
