Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Yes. Are you playing with a save from an earlier version of the game?

Wait the NX-17 was removed?

So that’s why I’ve not found one in forever. Why was it removed?

With low skills and supplies what is the most simple and easiest way to get rid of the turret guarding the exit of the science lab?

Goo canisters - go up the stairs, open a goo canister, a friendly blob should spawn. Leave it there, and eventually the turret should shoot at it. Repeat at least once. How well/quickly/safely this works has varied a good bit* with changes in vision, etc, so be careful. (I haven’t update in a few months, so I’m not sure the current state of things, here.)

When you go up the stairs again, count the shells (easiest with V) - if there are 100 or more, the turret is out of ammo. I usually try to leave the turret as long as possible, as it’s the best source of light.

Another way is to simply layer all the clothes you possibly can, go upstairs during the day, so the turret shoots at you at maximum range (while you’re still on the stairs) and take a round of fire… if it misses enough/you get lucky enough on hits, take another round, etc… when you get hurt any significant amount, go back downstairs to heal.

The theme here is to get it to run out of ammo (at 8 rounds per burst, it will generally run out in 13 bursts), as that’s almost always easier (in my experience) AND more useful AND more reliable than destroying it.

*At one point, you could go upstairs at night, and the turret wouldn’t see you until you got a little closer than the stairs, so you could build a piece of furniture to block line of sight (if you had the skills/tools) and push it up closer, which made this work even better, since you could drop the blob closer.

Ahh good old tactical carpentry. Walling off milspec bunker turrets with field-assembled bookcases FTW.

It was removed because it required excessive maintenance from code side.

Will there ever be a replacement for it in terms of a chargeable rifle? Like how the Laser Musket in Fallout 4 works.

The long charge thing is unlikely to happen.
Something simpler, like overcharge mode consuming more ammo, time and dealing more damage could happen.

Yeah playing with a pretty old character created a long time ago. Actually if its removed and only the item seems to exist then its no suprise its not working. Thanks for the info guys.

Is it possible for a character to randomly spawn in The Necropolis?

Is there a list anywhere of what gun modifications are in what categories?

The wiki has a list of some gun mods but it’s badly layed out and doesn’t tell what categories they go in like barrel, rail, sight, etc.

The item browser has this, see: http://cdda-trunk.estilofusion.com/gunmods/rifle/sights.

The page is no longer up-to-date, unfortunately, so some might be missing.

That’s really helpful, thanks

I’m using Chesthole’s tileset with the added pk content, but some monsters still show up as a letter.
How do I find out what this monsters id is when I see it ingame?

Pk is a relatively new mod, and im not too sure if chesthole’s tileset is updated regularly/upgrades mods.

I use console myself personally, so I can’t really give a better imput.

Also, use debug mode and “spawn monster” That usually works.

hit x to look around - you’ll be moving the cursor instead of yourself, and it will give information about the monster/NPC/vehicle/furniture in the square, OR about the square itself if none of those apply.

So if a square is on fire, and there’s a monster standing in the fire, it will tell you about the TILE information (grass, dirt, stairs, etc), and it will tell you about the monster, but it WON’T mention the fire (or any items on the ground).

Unless that’s been improved in the last few months, of course.

An option would be good. I prefer the shorter decimalized version since looking at the big numbers is kind of pointless to me - very few things drill down far enough for the precision to matter, IMO.

I’m also not understanding why the volume measurements were changed - as in, what’s gained here other than confusion. Probably doesn’t help that as a typical american I’m non-metric, and furthermore, what little metric I grasp is apparently out of date. Have to get my head around millileters applying to volume in general instead of liquids. Doesn’t really matter much as long as things take and fill space and one can see how much space one has used/avail.

So, I have myself a little crew of NPCs now, but I’m not sure what the bounds of their capabilities are. I know they can help me craft, but,

[ol][li]Can they man my manual A7 turrets?[/li]
[li]Do they still eat/sleep/drink when I tell them to stand guard?[/li]
[li]Do they need a UPS to use Power Armor (I did a lot of bank raiding) and will they activate it themselves?[/li]
[li]Can I set them up with bionics and mutations?[/li][/ol]

  1. No they can’t.
  2. No they don’t.
  3. You can equip them with power armor but I don’t think they’ll ever activate it.
  4. You can definitely mutate them provided they trust you enough to drink whatever random crap you hand them, not sure about CBM’s, I don’t think it’s possible though.
