What’s this Desert_Test map thing. And why does it only randomly appear as an option every 5 or 6 builds?
A mapgen setting that makes it generate deserts instead of fields, forests and swamps.
It disappears due to bugs sometimes, but nowadays it should always be there as an option.
Hello there again.
What actually “Align up and down stairs” option for? On the description say “If true, downstairs will be placed directly above upstairs, even if this results in uglier maps.” Isn’t that how stairs work without that option?
Thanks before.
It’s a technical thing that only matters if you’re playing with Z-levels.
If it’s off, there will be a “soft” version of this option: mapgen will try to place stairs on the same x/y coords, but bail out if it fails (for example, a wall is there on one level). If true, it will do anything short of knocking down a wall to align the stairs.
When stairs are unaligned (they typically are), going through them teleports you on x/y. This is not noticeable in many cases, but makes zombie senses go all wonky. It’s easy to notice if you’re hearing a lot of loud sounds or making sounds before you go up/down. It’s a big obstacle to sane z-levels.
Just saying I rather like the new volume mechanic.
Is there another new one, or is it the one where things are tracked in mL? I’m still running an old experimental (5300), waiting fer something to pop up to catch my eye.
mL.
It lets things be less than 1 volume.
I think mL confuses anglo’s.
Don’t they use fluid ounces, and aren’t those ounces different in the UK and USA?

Fluid ounces != dry ounces
And as far as I know the only difference is between the standard and imperial pint. A standard pint is 16 ounces, an imperial is 20. That’s fluid ounces. Not dry ounces.
And for volume (for storage purposes) us SAE patriots describe things in cubic inches.
I really wish we’d just go metric already. I’d only have to own half as many tools.

As a British person I consider anyone who doesn’t use ml and litres etc to be a very strange individual.
Ounces are for crazy people.
Has something changed regarding npcs agressivity?in two last gameс i got blasted in first week by rifle/pistol carrying npc which thretened me to drop wespon and get out of there whcih i complied to be immidiately gunned down.i would let them rob me-no problem but armed npc popping in first days with hostile intent and gun seem like deathc sentence with no possibility of positive outcome.i also play on 0.15 npc spawn so i gueess without disbling npc i would have to pray to rng goods to not encounter gun welding npc in first days.
Hmnm, you must be having a really bad streak. Sorry! But they are usually quite nice.
just got one armed with shotgun to join me.man i was scared.but i remebmer before that npc gernarally thretened to leave area or robbed never i had experience of being coldly gunned down after complying.i know that you should listen to man with gun…at least till you get vehicle or power armor;)
I dont trust any npcs in this game that arent already part of an organization. I usually gun them down if they come at me armed. Pneumatic bolt driver shoots a bolt in thier skulls.
How do you transport whiskey barrels?
Is the only way to literally adv inventory drag it to where you want to go?

I just picked it up, put it into my car. and then I racked up a good thirty pain moving it into my base later.
Worth it though. I’ve got booze through the rest of the apocalypse.
Yeah, if you aren’t strong enough to deadlift carry it, advanced inventorying to a car and back to base from there is your only option.
Is it supposed to take me a long time to wield even a plastic water bottle? The wielding description always seems to mention a long time if the item is anything larger than a lighter/matchbook, ranging from water bottles to massive tacticool handcannons to the Barrett M107.
Is there any way to make the inventory always show my volume in mL rather than full Liters. I like being able to see how much I’m actually holding, that way I’m not having to drop small item after small item before finding out just how much or how little I’m over. I prefered knowing the exact amount I was holding, but I can’t see an option to change that back around.
If its not a weapon in a holster/sheath/otherwise worn on the body, wielding an item will take a long time, every time, because the game assumes you have to pull off your backpack/rucksack/storage solution, find the item in question among all the others, take it out, close up your backpack/rucksack/storage solution, and put it back on. Even if you know exactly where the thing is, it’ll take a while.
Dexterity helps reduce the time. doesn’t do much for the bag solution, but it has a notable effect on how long it takes to wield a sheathed/holstered item.
