Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Is there any way for me to assign hotkeys to the various options on the Item Action Menu? So far the only item that has a shortcut on my own item action menu is the sewing/tailor kit, for repairing clothes, but I’d love to be able to somehow assign buttons to other items on that list - especially for lockpicking.

So unfortunately this question got missed, but I got my answer from a Youtube commenter, so I’ll share it here for folks as well: Pressing ? in the Item Action menu allows you to assign keybindings to any of the item actions in the menu. So now I have a quick lockpicking shortcut and I’m pleased \o/

Does anyone know where to get an authentic flamethrowers? I’m thinking of mounting that beast on my Humvee and doing a Kool-Aid man through the forest and torching the nearby fungal infestation.

Locations on where to get it would be nice, as I don’t recall ever getting one.
I’m guessing you could find them in military outposts/bunkers, maybe even museums?

EDIT: I just checked the item browser, apparently I can get them by destroying a tribot or a tank drone. I’ve seen tank drones in military/police blockades before, not sure about tribots.

i can have vitamin deficiency and hypervitaminosis at one time

It makes sense I guess, too much of some vitamins and too few of others. That said its pretty uncommon to have extremely high vitamins so having a deficiency and vitaminosis at the same time seems like a stretch

And, since vitamins dont actually cause any effect yet, its actually advantageous to pop vitamins as fast as possible, especially if you are eating turds and whiskey for breakfast.

Best way I know to do some lockpicking is to:
1- Wield them;
2- Press A (shift+a) to use the wielded item. (Nothing will actually happen, you need to “point” to where the door is);
3- Rinse and repeat step 2 until lockpick breaks (or door opens). Wield another one.

Profit.

This is true, but I find that having to re-wield a lockpick every time it breaks is a bit fiddly. Same reason I couldn’t just bind the lockpicks themselves - I usually make like 20 or so because I know how often they break, but if I apply a binding to the stack and one lockpick gets damaged, it takes that binding with it, leaving the stack unbound again (I have auto-assign turned off for reasons).

Now that I know how to bind actions in the Item Action menu, it’s just a case of “Press %, press e, press direction”, and repeat until the door’s unlocked or I run out of picks. \o/

Regarding binding actions in that menu…

I believe at the moment that menu has an action bound for doing a thing with a tool not very good at that job. I forget what exactly. Using a combat knife for butchery when I have a hunting knife on me, or something like that. How do I fix this and set it to use the right item?

in vault you will meet large amout of weak melee figters, i think broadsword and fencing weapon style should be good for this job

Also despite me playing this game for over two years, I’ve never actually entered and cleared a necropolis before. Maybe something I should try and do if I get the chance.

its an experience.

with horde mode on it can be a challenge.

my last attempt was with a lizard with demolitions skill. barely made it to the vehice maintainance bay. And was finally trapped in the residental slums by the hordes that feed each other

Find a pump station, inside is a manhole behind a fence, go into the sewers, find the entrance to the vault (ussualy more than one, can take time to find it, cause its slow to move through sewers, enter vault, armory is on lvl 1, dont need to bother with lvl 2, cause on lvl 2 you can/may “accidentally” enter robotics bay and fight 4 chicken walkers at once (bad idea). I guess Vault=Necropolis, not sure why people call it like that, ingame its name is Vault. So far found 3 Vaults and two of them had some army type flamethrower. P.S. take jackhammer(!!) with max charges and hacksaw if you dont have int. toolset, be ready to face insane number of enemies (really way too many of them inside, you will kill 100 before you can say hi, just to clear a small part of vault and vault is quite large

So I just discovered the wonder that is the Heavy Rail rifle…

Firing it is so satisfying.

And yet I’ve found you actually can’t do what the Wiki says and use powerful rifle type weapons like that to take out Fungus spires. Only a shotgun seems to work.

So Im doing a quest to get motors for an outpost, having gathered all previous items in earlier quests. What kind of motor is he asking for here? I have gathered 8 diffrent motors from cars and they dont seem to be what hes after, including 3 electric ones. Unfortunately I cant get him to explain any more about what hes after but I think it was for a sawmill or something like that.

Edit: Nevermind it worked when I put few more electric ones inside the house.
