Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Seems the Wraiths blindness debuff only lasts about a day. luckily!

First day, scavenge or make a makeshift weapon, favorites are the Nord, makeshift crowbar, or cudgel.

Find shelter that will work for a temporary base or get out of town.

Scavenge some food, get the perishables first (the ones in blue)

Trade up when it comes to clothing. for stuff that has higher volume, low encumbrance, decent warmth. Get a backpac or similar if you don’t have one.

DO NOT FIGHT ZOMBIES! Unless you have to and then try only to fight normal zeds. " is the key to start running.

If you have to fight a zed try and kite it onto a bush thru a window or over a car, it slows movement so that you can hit them more. Also avoid those same things if you are running.

Do I need a turret frame to manually fire a mounted machine gun? I can’t figure out how to configure my vehicle to get this M249 to fire >.<

Try emptying your hands then hit ‘f’ while in the seat it should bring up the targeting reticule.

where one can reliably find thermometer?i need it to distill ethanol which i need for various purposes. in my experience i only saw it seldomly in lab.Are there other places to look for?

If you want to just know the temperature, then diver’s watch has a temperature displaying function.
if it’s something else, then other than labs i’d guess spider basements, places that have gardening/building supplies, and randomly on corpses.
Does the wraith make you go blind? Fought one and now despite it being noon I have seriously reduced vision and I cant craft because its to dark. If it was him, how long does it last?
wraith?

Youd think theyd be in fridge units though. I mean, at least in america they are. In every single refridgeration unit and freezer display. Supermarkets should have like 50 of them on a bad day. And a few actual ones made to test meat/seafood/cooked foods.

I have a house with massive noise from below. At the first sight there are no downstairs. Probably there is a subway tunnel or something else. But in general I wonder if the downstair tiles are always on a free tile? Or is it possible they spawn below items or furniture?

edit:
And another question from the noobish me.
I found a barette (yeay fancy stuff!). It has 3 protection from bash and cut but no displayed bodypart. I know it’s a bit silly, does this item protect in any way? Or should it be seen as a 0 protection gear?

Its possible a sewer goes beneath it. Its possible there are ants or something too.

Lava rifts can be below structure, iirc.

The game is set up so that most things get their own special location, but if you are close to labs or ant hills its possible to hear them.

With Z levels turned on its really possible.
Another thing that can make noises from below is destroyed cars and burning buildings. Massive destruction travels through the ground to spark noises. Keep in mind that that means zombies or NPCs are doing things within your bubble.

I was trying to go pillage the outskirts of the nearby town, but there was a brute there, so I had to leave. I have a forest, but no cooking skill. There is a LMOE to the NE of the shelter. What should I do? Also, do underbrush and trees grow back?

Basements with no stairs happen sometimes. With high enough construction, you can make your own stairs down, or you could break into the basement from a nearby basement/sewer. Once you’re in, if you go UP the stairs and there are no down stairs under you, you know it was a generation error.

The best basement I ever saw (spider basement with a portal generator, 2 power armor helmets, the elf-a book, a sniper conversion kit… more stuff, even - it was crazy) was one of those.

Armor depends on location of the item, the coverage of the item, and the type of armor.

-3 bash is exactly as it says on the tin. 3 points of bashing damage will be deduced from incoming damage if this item is counted for armor.

-Coverage determines if the item is counted as armor on any given attack. If it has 100 coverage it will always be counted, if its 0 it will never be counted. So 5 coverage means 5% of the time, 1/20 attacks, it will count. Armor cannot be damaged if it isnt counted, but neither can it protect you.

-type of armor, i.e. bashing, cutting, fire, enviornmental.
Different damage is blocked by different armor. I think that stabbing damage usually counts as 50% cutting and 50% bashing, but all other damage relies upon its own value.

So, there you go. Damaged armor protects you less.

My own question:

If I make a gun run on batteries, how can I make it mount to a vehicle and use that vehicle energy? Can I just make it mountable and the rest is magic?

Quick question - did hobo stoves get removed from the game? I used to always have one but now I cant find them in the crafting menu at all. :frowning: Sad Walegrin

Soda can stoves?

Nope, level 1 fab. probably requires a books learned recipe though

Nope, not the soda can stoves. I’ve seen plenty of those. I believe the hobo stoves were in the "more Survival Tools’ mod.

EDIT - Nevermind, I found them. Forgot that I was starting with a different set of skills than usual. Silly me.

You have to get high enough survival now, might be in a book too. Very handy once you get it though… unless of coarse you already have an RV with kitchen and solars…

Is there a way to view the entire inventory of all of the storage containers in one’s vehicle?

Not that I know of… Though maybe debug? Or sifting through code/save file?

Im of a few minds of it.

It would be nice to have an accesible master list somewhere.

But, it also encourages organization, and its not hard to use advanced inventory management to check.
And, only in the largest of mobile bases is it bothersome.

Can you dig down a z-level with a jackhammer/pickaxe/shovel to make lab exploration safer?
