As for the very bad day scenario? I use it when I want to make a super-intelligent slime mutant. Pump starting intelligence to 20, get a few bionics and mutations to nudge it further–then pass threshold for that sweet, sweet x2 intelligence.

Yes, when you’re carrying more items than the game can assign hotkeys to. If I’d said ‘enter the amount and then press the assigned hotkey’ the first response would have been ‘but it doesn’t have a hotkey’.
Not really a question but the more I think about it…the sonic resonator CBM should destroy ‘stiff’ items you’re holding and wearing too, even if it doesn’t.
So last night on IRC some developers found a bug where dropping multi-stack items not singular (ex. Nails Batts) Spawning and dropping any more than 4000 of either you have magical fairies that eat all the excess so vanishing items
Bows, crossbows, and such have been tweaked a bit. Can’t be accurized anymore (which might be changed sometime, I’ll see), but now they can be repaired without a gunsmithing kit or firearm repair kit.
It seems like you have to have them recruited. Any time you batch craft (more than 1 at a time), they’ll help out. It seems this requires them to have the required skills, otherwise they merely “watch you craft” instead.
Anyone know whether NPCs gain experience from watching the player craft?

Batch craft? do you mean the craft as long as possible command?
