Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

0.C-3391. I really need to update by the way. Also, after doing some testing it appears I am mistaken. Loose ammo won’t get you through a metal lab door (neither will dynamite, but that’s another matter). I might be misremembering time playing pre-0.C or it might not even be possible in the first place.

I’ve got 40 Strength (18 Alpha Base + 2 Bionic Strength Enhancer + 20 Hydraulic Muscles) and can’t batter down either the new lab doors or concrete walls in the experimentals. Pickaxe, either Jackhammer, Acetylene Torch, Mininuke and Motor Vehicle are some of the only ways to get in without an ID or hacking.

If I recall, unless explosions have been derped up again, dynamite is about the weakest explosive that will take out a metal door, and even then it’s not a 100% reliable method.

Thanks for all replies x) I tested something earlier. I dropped a grenade right in front of the wall next to the metal door. The wall was blowing up, but i guess you already know that : There’s two thickness. Maybe with only 2-3 grenades, i could destroy walls and break into the lab.

Whatever. As i said, i saw an armored car next to this lab with spike plating. I will refill it and try to use it.

Seriosly?

Have I missed any more esoteric ways to get rid of a zombie corpse? X3

Can t you burn away corpses with huge fires?

You can make them magically “dissapear” by colapsing a structure on top of them (also caution is advised as corpses in rubble may not apear like they are there… but still are)

Can be finicky trying to burn them, though.

You asked for exotic ways. Not practical ones.

Burning the body would be more practical than hoping for a spitter to do the work for you, though. XP

Burning isn’t bad actually, it’s just that you need to make a big stack (of corpses + some clothing) or it won’t have enough fuel.

So it will be practical if i kill all my enemies within a single tile. I ll go burn a huge stack of z next time.

As long as they’re within ~3 tiles from some center tile, gathering them up is quite fast.
Open advanced inventory, move from ALL to the tile, vacuum up the corpses.
In game turns it’s much faster than butchering.

I usually use gasoline and two-by-fours to fuel my mass corpse pyres.

And I could swear I read about some way to turn on hordes in a game already in progress. Something to do with editing the save or something. I mean there’s gotta be something in there that says “hordes are on in this world” and I wonder what happens if you just add it.

try open options in ? menu ingame

It’s a worldgen setting, so you’d need to edit the file in the save folder.

Thing is, that’s one of the things I’ve yet to test, so dunno if that setting in particular will be changed properly.

I changed wander spawn to true in the folder. You don’t start seeing hordes until you travel far enough that the game is generating new territory, but once that happens then they do seem to show up just fine. Good times.

Swiggity swooty.

And now a tip from the Chaosvolt Blooper Reel: for you tileset authors, always check your sprite assignments.

And found where the failure started. Symbol of judgement is assigned right. Next sprite on the list...hellfire sprite, also assigned correctly. Wraithslayer? Whoops.

Who needs a spitter, we can make acid too…

Be cool if we could fire it thru the chemical thrower. Or some kind of high-ph chemical - “Now I burn YOUR legs off ya dirty acid spitters! MuHAHAHA!”

i think they are immune to acid

Hello, I’m Dampe, a two year Dwarf Fortress vet and Cataclysm newb.
I was wondering, what are the best skills to put into a beginner-friendly character?
