Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Shotguns are amazing if you can afford to tolerate the amount of enemies they’ll attract.

I prefer a beefy revolver. Has the added benefit of being holstered, and gets the job done. Admittedly, I dunno how they fare against hulks, as I try to avoid fighting those. But they take out NPCs and brutes well enough. If you wanna be absolutely sure that whatever you’re pointing at turns into little giblets on the road, not much beats a shotgun at point-blank range.

Though to be completely honest, there’s so many guns in this game and not much difference between them. Kinda feels like having multiple 9mm pistols or .22 rifles is kinda pointless, since guns tend to be more towards endgame anyway, simply because ammo is so hard to find in abundance. And you don’t need skill to shoot at basically point-blank range.

So really, just whatever there’s ammo for, preferring larger calibre rounds over smaller ones.

I’ll frequently use anything I can get ammo for, yeah.

And now a question. Can mapgen .json entries properly spawn corpses without bugging out?

What is heavy ammo, iv been using the slingshot turret, rocks have the heavy projectile tag but does anything else have them… In other words can the slingshot turret shoot anything more then rocks?

I have a soft spot for the RM99 revolver and RM103A automagnum. Mostly because they’re the easiest to acquire handcannons in my experience with relatively plentiful ammo and make for great panic weapons. Saiga-12 is a favorite in the shotgun deparment, doesn’t matter the ammo (even birdshot) a quick burst will down just about anything. In the case of rifles it’s usually just anything I can get my hands on with ammo.

Yes.

Here is an incomplete list of things it can shoot:
Modified mininukes (14 damage + nuclear explosion)
lead balls (50 damage)
pool balls (23 damage)

And more things I don’t know about.

And I’m quite proud of the versatility that the KSG offers. X3

Should I worry about the slime spawner near my base, (slime pit I think its called) The black slimes seem to be encroaching on my base. And they are really annoying with safe mode on.

The pit itself is harmless unless you have multiple z-levels enabled, or if you have dynamic spawning on. Just don’t go into it without lots of firepower.

The slimes on the surface? Kill them. Purge. Buuuuuurn. Pronto, or they will multiply. Then you, your base, and the entire city will become slime food.

ohhhhhh I think Im a little late on the killing part. There is TONS around the pit, and they seemed to have taken over half of a city near me. I think my base is fine for a few weeks but im worried. How do you recommend getting rid of all of them? Fire seems like a good idea, Im just scared of burning down the city. Or the fire attracting zombies to my base.

Fire doesn’t spread far. Find an isolated house near slimes and burn it. They are attracted to sound, so they’ll blunder into the fire.

Now all will be blob food.

Fire is good for the slime terrain around the pit itself, but you’ll want a proper flamethrower for actual slime-slaying. I’ve found molotovs to be rather underwhelming unless you target a group of blobs lingering in a building.

Any tips for moving within cities? I play with size 7 cities.

Sometimes, I regret that choice.

Start at the edge of town, leapfrog from house to house, avoid line-of-sight with uncleared streets as much as possible, and if possible stick to night raiding.

And if you do night raid, remember that cars with their headlights on are NOT your friends.

EDIT: Huh. When did the battery system bionic start giving you 10 power capacity?

I noticed that SOMETHING does about a week ago, give or take. Didn’t notice what it was though. Kinda strange.

Interesting, I checked the file and…yep, battery system comes with 10 powder now. No other ower generation bionic seems to do this.

So do guns wear out when used or is it blunt “get damaged from damage”?
Would like to see option to disassemble guns into major components for fixing & cleaning, but can’t be really sure if it would serve the Big Picture.

If I recall, misfires can cause damage to the gun too.

But there isn’t an actual system, that slowly damaged guns while used?
Rifling does wear out and pins & springs also get used up.
Can’t honestly say how fast though and with the amount of guns we have it would be an enormous task to find out how fast some gun wear out to the point of fixing.

As far as I know, there’s no weapon maintenance. Though we do have a firearm repair kit and I don’t use guns much, so I could be wrong.

I think the main problem with disassembling guns is item and recipe bloat. While the item bloat could prolly be lessened to an extent, the recipe bloat is unavoidable. You would need a separate recipe to rebuild every single gun in the game. And that’s a lot of guns.
