Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

I still cannot figure out what to do with on-vehicle turrets. They just won’t shoot.
I tried putting ammo on the turret tile, tried to refill it through the examination menu, whatever. They just sit there, mocking me silently.

I’m flummoxed. Help.

Are you playing with Vehicle Additions mod? You need a proper turret if you are. AND vehicle controls to configure them.

Yes, I think. My current vehicle is a Humvee with Mk.19 grenade launcher.
I also tried spawning one from the debug menu, same shit.
‘Enable turrets’ leads to ‘the turrets are on but configured not to shoot’.
‘Aim turrets manually’ leads to ‘turrets are off-line’.
‘Configure individual turrets’ leads to a slightly weird menu with nothing but ‘ quit’.

What do I need to add?

A turret chassis item, if I recall.

if your using the vehicle addition mod, I’d recommend going to the mods section and reading blazes comments on what you need. He even changed how the default gun turrets work I think.

Exactly. To sum it up, you need added stuff to turn a mounted gun into a turret.

But even without Blaze’s mod on, in both cases you can use the turret manually. Plop yourself on the section of vehicle with the mounted gun, empty your hands, and press the "f"ire key. owo

Its possible the turret youre talking about is manual only, which would mean it does not show up in the turret-menus. Stand on the same tile as the turret, make sure it has ammo in it (drop the ammo in the same tile too), do NOT have any weapons in your hand and no holsters with weapons on and try to shoot/press f ; that should give you the opportunity to shoot the turret above you

Also, I hate you, Random_dragon, you ninja’d me :stuck_out_tongue:

Sneaky dragon. owo

EDIT: Also, that has the added benefit that you can just slap a gun on a bare frame and boom, it’s almost like having it on a tripod.

Please tell me Missle Silo’s are worth going too. I’m going to drive over near the bee hive as big as an apartment building first.

Also if it shoots a nuke or something how big of an area?

I got that massive hive and blobs spawn about 12-20 tiles apart. I’d be okay with nuking both if I can, otherwise the blobs. Just on the general creepiness those things give me.

It nukes a decent size I think, but it doesn’t really kill monsters in the target zone.

So a nuke that does nothing? It should level the area, and kill nearly anything living except cockroaches.

It does change the map to craters and leave radioactive gas clouds if I recall.

If it was within your reality bubble it might do something, but even picking a close target won’t work since the silo controls are underground.

Though it should be viable if you had multiple z-levels on…I need to test whether it’ll damage surface monsters in those circumstances, though it depends on how many z-levels up are simulated, assuming the nuke damages anything in the unlikely event you get it to hit an area in your reality bubble.

Nuke’s from a missile silo leave a 5x5 overmap radioactive crater at the point of impact. This obliterates any buildings, vehicles and items in the area. It doesn’t kill any monsters present though, due to reality bubble shenanigans. I don’t know if it’ll stop Blobs from spawning due to the destruction of a Slime Pit, but it’s a waste to use a nuke on a Bee Hive. They’re delicious treasure troves of fresh meat and bee derived products. You can also destory the nuke with explosives for plenty of plutonium cells to.

Hence my idea: If you can engineer a way to nuke something in your reality bubble (which might be impossible), will it deal damage? owo

Maybe? I think it might just replace the entire cluster of 5x5 map tiles with crater rubble. Thus there’d be no way for it to directly deal damage to the player or monsters (unless you could get trapped under the rubble or something like that).

Shit!
I could’ve figured it out myself if I had thought about it harder. Of course it’s not a turret but JUST A GODDAMN MOUNTED GUN. Why did I even think it was a turret?
(Maybe it said something about being a turret. I’ll check that out.)
Thank you very much and I’m sorry for being a pillock.

Does that possibly mean that goddamn fungal bloom I had nuked is still there?

I now have this idea to try and nuke myself.

5x5? That’s not a nuke, that’s how much damage a big fertilizer bomb can do IRL. a map tile seems to be about 1 block. 8 blocks/tiles to a mile.

So it destroys @ 3300sq ft/1320sq m Again that’s not a nuke except the radiation.

Seriously. it should be more like 20x20+

I think I’ll go down the mine, seems more interesting than using a nuke.

I wish we could set how big the reality bubble is since this is the handicap we have to play with, it would be nice to be able to modify it.

Because without Vehicle Additions Pack enabled, it is a turret. Unless that change has been mainlined by now. XP

That could make sense. I have a tingling memory of it saying ‘Mk.19 GL turret’ but I cannot confirm right now.

Also, full external gas tank, some tinder, and a flaregun will take care of the flaregun even better than a mininuke would.

EDIT: And now, a question. Do artifacts have item IDs that could be referenced, perhaps to allow fixed spawns of certain combinations of abilities?
