Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

I don’t think so…

I’ve been having a rough time with being cold. I’ll where a Keffiyeh and still be cold, and even when not wielding anything, my hands get cold. (They are supposed to go in the pockets of the emergency jacket right?)

The other-side is, how does one stay warm indoors? I tried stay in a building in a public works but I was always frozen.

Dumb tip. Did you know it took me quite a while to discover that NPC companions can be goaded into boarding a vehicle? Move into their space, pick no on the “are you sure you want to attack?” prompt, they step back to get out of your way. Repeat until they’re seated somewhere comfortable.

I’ve yet to figure out how the hell to get pockets to work, so equally stumped there. Same goes for hoods. Leave your head unencumbered, the item description says. Sadly it seems a few hooded items, like the cloaks, already cover the head in the same way other garments often do, so the item still covers your head even if you encumber your head further with a hat.

Also, stay warm indoors by bundling up in the same way you would outdoors. Derp. o3o

Hood/pocket/collar bonus is separate from warmth bonus. For hood bonus to happen, you need less than 10 head encumbrance. For pocket bonus to happen, you can’t wield anything bigger than 1 volume.
An item that has a hood, covers the head and encumbers more than 9 can be considered bugged, because the hood will never do anything.

The only difference between indoors and outdoors temperatures are the wind and the sun. Indoors you don’t get windchill and no warmth from sunny weather.

Start in summer. By the time autumn rolls around, you should have plenty of warm clothing options to choose from. Downside: most perishable food has already spoiled.

That explains it, yeah. Hooded items that cover the head by default are pretty much redundant in deliciously buggy ways.

Only if they have encumbrance above 9. Those with low encumbrance will actually give the intended effect too.

Hey, got back into the game after a very long time and got a few small questions: why do I can (a)pply and (E)at cannabis and tobacco, or better asked: why isn’t the game showing me some notification that I ate or applied it? I was so confused and used a lot of my starting cannabis just to find out that I now have to craft it via &.

Ahh, I thought that it might be warmer. Is the only way to heat an area through wood stoves with lots of logs?

How do I make bricks? I have the unfired clay bricks, but it says I need a brick kiln. Where do I find a brick kiln or how do I make one?

Brick kilns can be found in hardware stores- I’ve ran into like 3 or 4 so far, so I guess they shouldn’t be to hard to find.

Fitness gym machines > arcade machines > smashing either of those > car batteries > consoles[/quote]

We hit the plastic chunk motherlode! Thanks.

I think so. Be careful with starting a fire inside a building though, smoke tends to build up and take a long time to dissipate. And there’s the risk of starting a house fire if you’re like me and don’t pay attention to what tile you start the fire.

Yeah, when you eat cannabis or rolling tobacco you don’t get the in game message. I’m not sure why that is.

Wood stoves and fireplaces suppress smoke production and fire growth.

Also, logs aren’t good fuel for small fires. They quickly become lightly burnt and then stop burning (small fires can’t penetrate thick objects well).

Is there any effect when ate or applied?

I think you need to roll it into a joint or have a glass pipe or something in your inventory. Plus a lighter.

Just eating the cannabis as-is works too. I don’t know to what extent you gain the drug effects, but it does give a decent quick-and-dirty boost to morale.

I made a character with fairly low intelligence, not realizing its immense importance for reading books later in the game, so I tried the strategy of popping stimulants (adderall, caffeine, oxygen tank, cigs) to boost my intelligence up enough to where I can be able to read them. However, when I started reading, it still said I couldn’t understand the book. I definitely checked to make sure - my int was multiple points above the requirement, and I had the minimum skill level needed to read the book. Is this a bug, or is this an intended feature?

Okay. Thanks for the answers, guys. It’s weird that it works like this though and doesn’t give any message about it either. :S

With regards to NPCs trying to steal stuff on a player’s base. Say there’s one entrance, no windows. If a couple of objects such as lockers were dragged into the entrance, will that stop them from trying to enter the base, or will they just smash through that?

Pretty annoying, to put it mildly.

It should stop the ones that spawn outside out, but some will just magically appear inside.
