Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

On the subject of those swappable storage batteries… If I have one in my car, in one of those swappable storage battery cases, it IS providing power to my vehicle, right? Or are they swappable in that you’re supposed to switch them out with the main battery in the front by your engine? I rigged up a couple of them to a van I found, along with some solar panels in the same tile, but the battery meter on the car still reads really low.
Is there anything to be done about spitters and their acid? My legs are EASILY the most-injured part of me, ALL the time.
My solution to that is the same as my solution to flaming eyes doing the whole wallhax instagib – blacklist them in a mod since there is no defense against them. Then ramp up spawn rate even more.

So even having them going for quite some time, you will barely see any change in your power with even just one storage battery. If you have multiple storage batteries, it is even harder to see if it does anything. But yes, storage batteries work just the same as car batteries, except that you can put them in cases to make it easier to add/remove them later on.

I wish instead that there were more zombies that could damage me.
without a spitter in a horde i can simply run straight through ignoring it as if it wasn t there(at that point i do not butcher them anymore they are irrelevant).

Are we really really sure there isn’t a bug making them all ice labs recently? This streak is getting really ridiculous.

Is there a mod which removes Nether critters, including flaming eyes?

You may have bad luck like I did. If in doubt, you can also edit the jsons to not spawn ice labs. I believe that would be data/json/overmap_specials.json but I am not 100% certain on that.

Yeah streak finally broke

Does power armor interface MK. II also work for regular power armor? I have both interfaces, and if I only need to install the Mk II, that would be nice…

Related question: does having too many bionics installed still cause problems as implied by the wiki page? If not, I’ll just install them both and be done with it, I suppose…

mk II doesn t mean its for powerarmor mk2 .

there is no powerarmor mk 2 actually,

it only means its a better version that uses less power to power you power armor.

Books:

So, the most enjoyable books I’ve found are a few of the skill books that are +2 in 8 minutes… and they never run out, unlike the “just for fun” books, so the “just for fun” books are totally worthless in comparison. Am I missing something? Why would you bother with the “just for fun” books at all (from a mechanics perspective)?

Also, is there anything that trains First Aid in any reasonable time frame? Using bandages has got me from 6 almost up to 7… in like a year of combat. That’s seems just a LITTLE bit slow…

Well, because you can only use(train) first aid in yourself, make sense the only reasonable source of skills gains are books. Another source is installing and removing CBM.

So there’s been a lot of stuff about this, and I think it’s changed a lot over the years, but I want to know:

Is there any usefulness to dragging a refrigerator back to my shelter? Will food placed in it last longer? If not, can I somehow hook a refrigerator already in the world to a power source once I get a generator going?

Is there any way to tell how cold it is outside so I can figure out when to pull my food back in from the crate outside?

I found a thermometer that tells the temp, and I found a watch (diver’s watch, I think it was) that did the same thing. Don’t know about the rest, though, sorry.

The refrigerators found in houses are non functional as far as I know, they’re just a storage box with a fancy name and a source of rubber tubing. Vehicle based mini fridges are what you want to look out for, I think they quadruple the time it takes for food to rot.

You can check temperature with a thermometer or a weather reader CBM. Alternatively, walk outside without wearing any warm clothes and view your player info (@) for your encumbrance and warmth.

Anyone know of any brilliant and easy sources of plastic chunks? Currently I’m breaking down car batteries and broken consoles, but it’s gonna take a while for me to stockpile enough chunks to make a few thousand handmade caseless rounds (I found a HMG and I am GOING to go nuts with it).

I don’t know of any really easy sources, but the there are a bunch of plastic diving blocks that appear at the edges of pools which can be smashed for a fair amount of plastic. Short of the boneheaded method of butchering every rubber boot/hard hat/cleansuit/gallon jug that one finds, I can’t think of anything else.

Anyways, I tried to help :). Have fun surviving.

I scanned the json and it seems to be (in order of plastic produced/time to find and dismantle):
Fitness gym machines > arcade machines > smashing either of those > car batteries > consoles

Also good for plastic: cut up raincoats, hazmat suits, and wetsuits, and other similar items. Use your zombies as a resource!

Does cooking food reset spoilage timers? Like can I leave raw meat for 20 hours, then cook it and get another 24 hours without it spoiling?

No.

No, but it rescales the spoilage timer. If the new product doesn’t spoil, I think it even clears rot.
