Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

It’s just a warning.

Dismantling them is safe and trains your mechanics skill. If you’re set on ramming, you can usually do a bit less damage to your own vehicle by doing so at a lower rate of speed.

If you can spare the fuel, a couple Molotov cocktails will go a long way towards lightening those obstacles as well. A big fire can reduce a pickup truck to a skeletal wreckage that you might be able to drag off the side of the road by hand.

There’s also a CBM that’s perfect for scrapping wrecks, generates a pulse around you that damages rigid structures. Just sit in the car and blast it to scrap!

Ive found that a frame ahead of your vehicle just for armor(military cargo truck is an example) helps a lot as I have found that the MCT can ram through 3 cars no problem.

Fertiliser bombs work pretty good.

To the point that it feels kind of like cheating, honestly, though I’ve had to completely dismantle a few cars–not to navigate clogged roads (I typically use a three-tile bike for the exact purpose of easily slaloming through city streets, though I often still crash because I’m just a fucking awful driver), but to expose manholes. I did it in a little road dot that only had one manhole intersection, and the manhole was nowhere to be seen until I completely tore apart two cars looking for it.

This, though, this is a good idea, except for the part where I’m always paranoid about preserving perfectly good parts (I’ve developed strange habits of hoarding things like vehicle controls, short ropes, solar panels/cells, and even sheets of glass). I suppose there’s always tearing off the stuff I might be able to use in a future project before I bomb it, though at that point I’ll probably just end up completely dismantling it.

So I recently updated my Cat version.

Did painkillers get buffed or something? I swear my Codeine is more potent then it was before.

EDIT:Also hamburgers and Clam chowder and such got cut down into portions, that’s pretty great.

Just wanted to add, you can carry your tazers in sheaths and maybe holsters too.

Hello, how can I remove preset characters ? thanks alot

Go to cataclysm/templates and delete their files.

Hi! To remove preset characters, when you open your folder containing Cataclysm: Days Ahead there should be a folder which is called ‘templates’. Go in there and delete the [Your preset].template files you don’t want.

Hello again, how can I switch clothing layers withot taking them off? Messenger bag <–> jacket for instance, is it even possible? And my second question, what is the best way to practise tayloring? Thanks alot!

Hit + on the numpad to reshuffle your layers.

Best way to practice tailoring is to repair clothes that you don’t care if they’re destroyed, or make a bunch of handwraps and reinforce them.

Hello Bumpkin, well I mean after I hit + what do I have to do there to reshuffle? Don’t know how it works.

Sorry, pick the layer you want to move and hit ‘s’ to select it, then move it up to where you want it with up/down arrows and ‘s’ again to leave it there. Top of the list is the innermost layer. You can use the left and right arrows to show clothes from certain parts of the body only.

How do I scroll down item descriptions? Never dared to ask before but espacially weapons with all their stats don’t show their regular description. I think that the “vv” at the top right corner indicate that I can scroll somehow?

I have a fire axe, it says that it is a tool but I can’t figure out how I can chop some firewood with it. Any help?

Stand next to a tree, open Construction menu (*), find Chop down a tree option.

Thanks for the answer. But how can I cut it down those wood trunks further? I tried to cut a heavy stick with the axe but didn’t work? Do I need more than an axe?

A heavy stick is already firewood; you don’t need to cut it down further–though if you were dead-set on doing it, you could use a knife to cut it up into skewers, which are still wood and will burn. I don’t know if they’ll work quite as well as a heavy stick or two-by, though.

In order to cut tree trunks into logs (which can be picked up and then be cut into two-by-fours and splintered wood by using the axe on a log in your inventory), you’ll need to open the Construction menu again, but you’ll need at least 1 rank of the Construction skill to do it. If you don’t have an entry-level Construction book to read, you can grind your first level of it by disassembling furniture with a hammer, screwdriver, and the Construction menu; by cleaning glass out of broken windows via the Construction menu; or by chopping down more trees, all of which are tasks that require Construction 0 and thus will train it up to 1.

EDIT about changing professions in the save file: I tried it (using Notepad, of all things), and it did in fact change my current character’s displayed profession on her character sheet (I went from “Punk Rock Girl” to “Shower Victim”; that was just a test and will be reversed). It also didn’t fuck with my skills or inventory or traits or bionics or anything, so that’s good. However, I just opened up the game and took a couple of turns; I don’t know if there would be any consequences down the road. I don’t see why there would be, but I’m not a coder. It’s kind of an awkward edit, but so far it looks like I could, in fact, use this to “promote” shower victims who survive their Really Bad Day. (Also Novice Martial Artists and the like whose Melee, Unarmed, and Dodging skills develop to higher levels.) Maybe I could also use the same method to change names if I feel the need, like granting my character a new moniker after a post-threshold mutation or something.
