What’s the fastest way to increase my construction skill? It is currently 3, and I have books for 5 and up, but I can’t find any books for 3 to 5. Just wondering which piece of furniture is best or pits or whatnot.
Warning: I’m playing the experimentals, where some of the level prereqs differ from 0.B, so my advice may or may not apply to you.
If you’re looking for something to spam to level Construction, wooden doors look like the easiest spam from 3->4. Deconstruct a door in a doorway and keep rebuilding and deconstructing the door–each one takes 15 minutes, 4 two-by-fours, and 12 nails (you’ll only get some of the two-by-fours and nails back each time you take it apart), making it the quickest and the cheapest in wood. Failing that, you could do counters, but they take 20 minutes and more wood.
Other things that could get you skill XP from Construction 3->4, just in case you actually need any of these things: roofs, log walls, brick walls, beds (good to build if you’re in a building without one at the moment), armchairs, wooden kegs (for clean water, another piece I advise), Coolthulhu’s new charcoal kilns for mass charcoal production (also recommended), chain-link fences/posts/gates.
Once you hit level 4, to get to level 5, I’d say probably cupboards or lockers. Though there’s also reinforcing any boarded-up windows in your house, building windowframes, installing peepholes in your doors if you have peepholes to install, building palisade walls and gates, simple concrete walls, log and sod roofs, and also shallow water docks.

Is there a way to make a normal wall? The only walls I can build don’t look like existing walls. I took down a door and wanted to put up a wall and did, but it looks completely different from the rest of the room.
I think if you take paint from the home improvement store and paint the wall it’ll become a painted normal wall (or at least look like one), but I might be wrong. I couldn’t see any page of the wiki to check and the item checker doesn’t look for building recipes. That said I’m sure your graphics pack, or lack thereof, will affect how different constructed walls look.
Is it possible to import a whole world into a newer version of the game?
No, newer versions will probably totally break things.
You can try, but importing older world’s is what caused Sudden Instant Lava Holocaust syndrome.
Depends how new.
Stable to experimental may not work.
Relatively modern experimental to newest experimental almost always works.
Just copy+paste or even cut+paste “config” and “save” folders.
Has anyone managed to… Find they’re way to a vault in the wanderer towns and expore it successfully? I have never managed to live long enough in the sewers to navigate my way to founding one but I’ve always been told they are there.
Incomplete feature, I’m afraid. It’s supposed to be there but the actual structure isn’t yet written. But if we’re lucky, it might be by this coming August; Acidia tends to show up in the June-August months.
Ah ok, didn’t even know that.
Okay, guys, so I didn’t check on Cata for a while now (since september of 2014, I think). Could someone please tell me if there are any interesting features implemented in the game?
the entire 0.B update, you may just want to check out the change log for it
Thanks. I was asking just in case something else was added that isn’t in the chnagelog.
Besides myriad additions of the stable, the experimental has the first iterations of monster infighting. In my opinion, one of the most exciting features added to the game for a long time, and has completely changed my playing style, especially when it comes to escaping from hordes.
It still needs tweaking - every single turret I’ve encountered has been destroyed by zombies before becoming a threat, including those in military bases, plus the number of dead animals I’m finding could feed my survivor for weeks - but it adds a sense of interactivity the game lacked earlier.
It’s the third time I sent an infighting related PR and the third time I forgot to update turrets to use the infighting system.
I’ll see if I can just copypaste tank drone code.
If you see something not using special abilities when infighting, it’s generally because some abilities (especially the rare ones, but I somehow managed to forget about the turrets) aren’t coded to use it yet and they only recognize the player as target. Some rare abilities are executed silently or semi-silently (bio-op takedown on player prints 4 messages, on NPC at most 2).
So…what’s happening? My character is randomly shuddering and sending off mutation signals “You feel something deep inside you, yearning to be free…” And I think it’s trying to mutate me but can’t since I already went through a whole load of Lupine serum, at one point my pretty mutation turned into ugly because Lupine is weird like that, I don’t have unstable genetics, blood filter shows nothing, what’s causing it? A change to mutation mechanics?.
Do you already have the Lupine mutation? By that I mean it should be a white coloured mutation called ‘Lupine’ in your mutations list. If not, take more lupine serum and you should get a message about being free or something, and you’ll get the Lupine prefix.
No radiation or rat kings around? Artifacts?
Long time Lurker here, only just made an account, I have played this game since before it was dda, when whales was working on it.
Anyway, I was wondering is they any way to change how many rounds you fire when you are using the burst option on firearms? Is it to do with the skill that, the particular weapon uses?
Time for a really foolish question of my own: is there a list of colour codes for map notes somewhere? Sometimes I want to do something like mark a portal in its natural purple colour instead of red, but I haven’t figured out a colour code for purple, if there is one.
