Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

They’re extremely rare though. I must have searched 20 different doctor’s offices through multiple towns with my current character before I got sick of looking. Not a single hospital in sight yet either. I finally just resorted to breaking down safes and bank walls with hydraulic muscle strength, and I wonder why I didn’t just do that sooner.

Oh, so it’s just that skeletons aren’t included in the slow zombies mod. Skeletons and many zombie animals do revive with no rez mod.

This is because no rez and slow zombies use a rather hacky method of determining what is a zombie: they search for “mon_zombie” in monster’s id. Since skeletons and some other monsters (for example zombear - “mon_zombear”) do not have “mon_zombie” in name, those mods don’t affect them.[/quote]
I found this out the hard way. Lost a nearly 2 year character to this BS.

Where in the world is the hauling frame? I’ve searched close to a dozen banks now and they all just have the same probability travel cbm and money bundles. I also searched 5 bunkers and still can’t find the hauling frame.

Also which is better, light power armor or basic? I’ve been wearing light but basic has a 99 protection. Not that i’ve met anything that can penetrate the light armor yet, but I figure the one time I meet something that does will be the one time i’ll wish I had upgraded to basic.

Also I found a railgun, but I have no clue what kind of ammo it uses. Is it craftable somehow? Is the railgun even good?

I found my hauling frame in a basement. Not a gun basement or a survivor basement; It was just one of those “oh nothing good ever spawns in here” basements.

Hauling frame can be found around military stuff. It is quite rare.

Railgun hits quite hard and pierces armor, but ammo for it is as rare as the gun itself.

It’s a railgun, right? Shouldn’t the slug be easily craftable then? It should be just a solid piece of ferrous metal with no complicated internal components.

Yes, you can craft the H&K railgun ammo.

Yes but I’m pretty sure you get less stuff from doing that, unless I’ve just been unlucky with the safe’s I broke open compared to the ones I’ve opened with a stethoscope.

Nope. I’ve just checked the latest jsons on github. There is, in fact, no recipe for the H&K 12mm slug. What we do have, are the recipes for rebar and steel rail ammos. Those are for the ferromagnetic rifle, not the H&K G80.

Breaking it has a chance of breaking some items inside the safe, which is probably why.

Only with save editing.

Is there an easier way to start other than hoping to get lucky and start off with good armor, a weapon and with spores right outside your starting area so that you can build up your melee skills?

You could not do really bad day start. That always makes life much more difficult.

Quite simple actually, use the roguelike classes mod. It gives you access to a couple of decent professions that all start with a couple of skills, weapons, armor, and for the low low price of 0 points. Among them the rogue is my go to profession as he starts with a decent melee weapon, some trowing knives(usefull for shockers, shriekers, eyebots and generally anything you want to kill from range, except spitters), a lockpick kit, leather armor and decent skills to go with it all.

Eee-eh?! I remember that you could craft 12mm slugs.

You might have been able to before, but now you definitely can’t.

I’m in the process of making cargo containers for my mobile base and I have a question about the long rope. Is there an easier way to get them or find vines other than tearing down every window sheet in a town and spending the hours it takes tying it up into short rope.

I’m afraid that’s the only way. Check sporting goods stores, usually they’ll have a piece of long rope somewhere, and I think Public Works places spawn a few as well.

Cut out seatbelts out of cars, that i’ll give you short ropes.

There’s a vehicle that has 6 cargo containers that is pretty common. Of course, you would need the right tools and skill to remove them.
