Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

It gets rather dark during such storms? Lightning only provides brief flashes of light.

Very Dark seems a little excessive though, especially in the middle of the day. Even with thick cloud cover, it’s not like the storm blocks out ALL of the daylight.

Do I get the silat bonus with a broadsword?

Just started playing the new build after a few months break, and I ran into a situation that’s really annoying me…

How can you disassemble something really heavy without destroying your characters body? In this instance, a riot control bot. It has a volume of like 300 and a weight of like 150 (I’m using kg), and apparently takes an eternity to disassemble. I tried wielding it and disassembling, but I have to hit shift+Y a million times due to being spammed with “Ouch, you were hurt, stop disassembling?”… yet despite doing this, the thing never finished in a reasonable amount of time. When my pain rating was at +100, I just gave up, because it’s not worth it.

Obviously, this situation isn’t realistic. In real life, you would never hold something that weighed 150kg and try to work on it with tools simultaneously.

I can’t recall any possible way to disassemble something that you aren’t holding… but I’m just posting this in case I’m missing something and someone else has advice.

You can disassemble stuff on the ground with ‘B’ if you have the appropriate tool.

Dude, thank you so much. I was expecting it was something like that hahaha… some shortcut or method I just wasn’t aware of.

Thunder and lightning storm clouds are some of the densest and biggest monsters out there. Thunder and lightning requires a lot of built up energy after all.

Clouds can block all the light from the sun, but more often than not, they don’t rely on absorption entirely- their whiteness also results in a very high albedo and reflects most of the solar radiation back away from the ground (but also reflects light back down to the surface, though a lot less when it’s grey at the bottom). There are situations where the cloud layer above can be said to be not that dark, but the amount of light reaching the surface under them is almost like its at night like on some Vancouver mornings.

For visible light type radiation, if you’ve ever been in a plane before and went into a particularly thick-ass cloud, you can generally see how effective clouds can be at stopping solar radiation from reaching the surface of the plane or the earth for that matter. And even in these cases, keep in mind that planes are often flying through the smaller and less extreme ones instead of trying to pass through lightning storm clouds head on.

Another location to experience very dark days when thunderstorm clouds are over head is to be on a boat. In many regions of the world it might not seem to be the case that clouds can block out a substantial amount of sunlight, but this is mostly due to the light bouncing off the surround landscapes and then again off the bottom of the clouds. Land being much more uneven in the way it affects air masses, makes it hard for total cloud cover over immense stretches like at sea. This is compounded even more when you take into account that sunlight enters almost every where on earth at an angle and probably wouldn’t have the energy density to penetrate a dense and tall cloud layer if you were living in say mid latitude Canada or Argentina.

If a vehicle has solar panel(s) and multiple batteries, how is the solar energy distribuited? Equally to all the batteries?

Also is it possible to transfer energy between batteries? (Specifically car/truck batteries to swappable storage ones.)

yep

Yes, using vehicles and jumper cables, but you can’t do it from a low battery to a charged battery.

Just read the source - batteries are charged sequentially. Not sure about the order, but probably either in order they were installed. So the first battery will get to 100% before second gets 1%.

No, it’s not possible to transfer power between batteries.

Whats a good source of wires? Making one reinforced glass takes about 40, which is two days of work…

Find bolt cutters, there’s usually one in hardware stores. Cutting up a few wire fences will give you more than you need.

No need for bolt cutters, smashing them down already produces ~ 9 wire.

Is it possible to crack open the fenced fuel tanks that spawn on gas stations?

You mean open so you could siphon the gas without paying? Because they are smashable iirc.

I don’t think so…

I usually just make a solar charger for my base. Once you’ve got enough infrastructure and skill to do any serious vehicle construction, it’s pretty straightforward to slap a bunch of spare solar panels on a bunch of light frames and attach a single storage battery. Hang around your base doing other stuff, and remove the battery when it’s charged. When you finally get around to building your solar-powered death-mobile, you can at least build it with fully-charged batteries rather than having it sit in the street for a few weeks before it’s ready to go anywhere.

Of course, this assumes that you’re the base-building type…

Advice on Creating a More Survivor Style Scenario Required

Please tell me if the settings I am thinking of using will focus more on scavenging and surviving in a normal zombie environment. I will only put the settings I have changed.

City Size = 5
Zombie spawn rate factor scaling = 1.2
Item spawn rate factor scaling = 0.5
Season Length = 20

Static spawn = True
Wander Spawn = True
Classic Zombies = True
Random NPCs = True
Mutations by radiation = False

Mods Enacted:
Boats
Disable Mutagens
Experimental Z-level buildings
Mundane Zombies
No energy weapons
No medieval weapons
No monsters
No powered armor

I am unsure if I have to set classic zombies to true as well as use the mundane zombies mod to just have normal everyday zombies.

Thanks for any advice on setting up.

Whoa, i found the legendary mysterious thing.

50 units of quicklime in a particularly well stocked hardware store (permanent marker, peephole, everything).

I found out that I can lower garage doors on zombies and injure them a lot. Been going around and seeing how many zombies I can squish with the garage door at once last night.
