Bloody good question, Sep. That would be one disadvantage of dynamic spawning, though also an incentive to take Martial Arts.
IIRC that’s because the only point of Head encumbrance (as distinct from Eyes or Mouth–those are serious) is to limit what you put on. Non-zero means you can’t equip anything else there. I have a Knit Hat under my Army Helmet.
So, in the newest version I’ve got, apparently my character goes Dragon Style by wearing socks over the sneakers, perfectly fitting polo shirt over the trenchcoat, etc.
This is probably the most newbish question ever but… how do I properly install the game? I download the windows executable and then put the application on my desktop, but every time I finish playing and exit the window out, next time I try to open it, it won’t launch and I have to reinstall it. Would really like not to have to keep the window open for days at a time. Thanks.
There is no special installation procedure, you just unzip the game and it’s good to go. However, sounds like you’re having a problem with virtualization, something many newer versions of Windows does for security reasons where it prevents applications from changing the contents of what’s on the drive by creating a virtual copy instead, but this virtual copy goes away when you close the app. Files that don’t come from a trusted installer don’t get good credentials by default when Windows is set to be that secure. But here’s a few things you can do:
First off, rather than just unzip the app direct to desktop, try unzipping it into a folder and placing that folder somewhere on one of your drives. Security-conscious copies of Windows really don’t like it when you play with apps in certain folders (like the desktop), those are considered higher security areas. Putting the Cataclysm folder in My Documents might be a good way to go about it, because that’s often considered a more mutable area by windows.
Second, try running Cataclysm in administrator mode. This may convince Windows to allow that application to actually change files in the folder it’s installed in, rather than create a memory virtual drive for it. Often, once you’ve done this a few times, Windows will get the idea that this is an app you want to allow to make permanent changes on your drives.
Third, if the above doesn’t work, you can try going into the properties of the folder and going to the security tab and making sure you have permissions to make changes to that folder.
Not sure if moving the application (assuming you didn’t create a shortcut) caused the problem, but geldonyetich covered that better than I could. Only other problem I recognize is X-ing out of the game. Closing the window during an active game doesn’t save.
(That’s vital knowledge, and I chose that adjective deliberately.)
In order to manually save, use capital S during the game. It should give you a prompt: Y saves and takes you back to the menu. I haven’t tried the autosave option yet, but manual’s worked well enough for me so far.
Thanks geldonyetich… I got it working fine:D. And KA101 I was saving my game but every time I X-d the game out and tried to launch it again it wouldn’t launch and I’d have to reinstall everything, including my saves but thanks anyway
Hello. Just installed 0.3 version and now I can not understand how can I turn off static spawn?
When I turn off it in ?2 menu it is still active.
I don’t mind it though more than twelve hulks on the first day is too much for me.
Okay, so, big newb question; I never survive getting out of the nearest city after I go in; I attract a large horde of 10, 20 zombies and get mauled right outside on the road out; What am I doing wrong? :c
If you’d rather opt to keep things at the default state/options, you can…
[ul][li]Make a nail board with materials found in the evac shelter. "S"mash one of benches and voila! Cheap, decent weapon available after crafting.[/li]
[li]You can also opt to go for a wooden spear. Use it melee or throw them around.[/li]
[li]Take any combination of (in order of decreasing general usefulness) Quick/Fleet-Footed/Parkour Expert if you want to move faster.[/li]
[li]Make sure to check your speed stat every now and then. It may be that you’re moving slowly for a variety of reasons such as thirst and overburdening to name a few.[/li]
[li]Stay ONLY on the outskirts (meaning the outermost “layer” of buildings) of any town/city until you’re strong enough to go deeper. Also, you can try raiding/scavenging at night since it’s easier to sneak around. It’ll be hard to see though without certain equipment and traits/mutations.[/li]
[li]Remember: It’s about survival; not killing the most Zs (unless you’re bored and/or suicidal). Don’t go around killing wantonly, especially at the beginning off the game.[/li][/ul]
credits to my neighbor and his brother … but do you know what happens? is the sword lost?[/quote]
Well, by logic/guess, If they actually despawn, I think you would lose your sword.

Seconded, though I wouldn’t know any better. ST 10/11 is your friend if you want to go high-powered melee.
hah. choose the letter that aspirin has for cause it should always be bound to ‘a’
confused? great, that was the point! now you can learn something new
press Shift-D and the direction key that points to your locker.
now press ‘10a’
you now have the '+ sign next to aspirin. feels a bit weird to have gotten no other feedback, but if you press ‘enter’ now the pills will be in their own stack in the locker.
now try it with rocks. note that aspirin has ‘(charges)’ while rocks have ‘[quantity]’
when you split [quantities] you’ll get some visual feedback. but not for (charges). weird but true.
aspirin. don’t leave home without it (all).
and remember to take (all) your vitamins whenever you find some.
