Suggesting new buildings?

I thought it would be interesting to start a topic where we could stockpile our ideas for new buildings.

^ Salons - contain scissors, batteries, chairs, etc.
^ Oil wells - contain computers, fuel cans and pumps.
^ Warehouse - HUUUUGE buildings containing large numbers of repeated random items and crates. So, for example, you might find 20 hotplates, or 50 pipes, or 25 batches of wire. However, they are infested with zombies and weaker robots.

Estates - basically a huge mansion with extra buildings and a huge amount of luxurious items.
Ruined building - it’s a ruined building that was ruined before the cataclysm. What did you expect? Lots of trash, needles, matches, lighters, bottles, low quality clothes and shopping carts.
University - you know what a university is… a mixture of a lab, a museum and a library.
Sports stadium - I always wondered where those hockeyers, footballers and rollerderby players came from.

This is from somewhere else:
Big military complex. High-level robots, zombie soldiers, power armor, generally a very difficult place to survive.

A revamp on megastores, they aren’t just big ass rooms with shelves. I want a base like carvers from the walking dead season two…

A lot of the original structures could use a revamp really. Very few stores have back doors or even back rooms. Rooms that look like they were supposed to be offices are left empty, or have random items thrown on the ground with no furniture. There are no bathrooms for structures that really should have them, etc. A lot of this also comes down to the fact that there just isn’t enough room for all these features in a single map tile, but without a way to place specials in cities, there’s not a lot to be done about it.

Airports: Contains Luggage/Baggage, Lot’s of Zeds maybe a new Zed that’s a mix of Mall Security and Cop to act as TSA Zeds, could add new Vehicles that could spawn there like Ground Support Equipment (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_support_equipment)

Ports/Docks: Like a Warehouse but Spawns on the edges of Rivers or Coastline When/if it get’s added, would have Docks that you could fish from along with Boats/Ships that would spawn if you use the Boats mod. Smallest would be a Basic Cabin with a Small Dock

Car Dealerships: Would have Various Vehicles in Various Conditions, Mostly Badly Damaged/Wrecked or it could already be empty, would have a Very Rare chance to Spawn a Like New/Perfect Car though. May or may not have a Garage with a/some fuel pumps.

Adult Stores/Strip Clubs/Gentleman Clubs: Could Spawn lingerie, Vibrators, Erotic Novels/Playboys, Condoms that could be used to hold Water/Craft Condom Canteens

A factory where raw metal is processed. Contains a large machine capable of melting copper–letting you craft bullets from it. Full of hazards like live wires, molten metal and toxic fumes. A critical structure it was reinforced by the military during the cataclysm and is still guarded by tripods, chicken walkers and tank drones. Small chance to spawn a recipe book that lets you craft RPG rounds

A nuclear power plant still going strong. Survivors could gut it for a minireactor and plutonium but have to contest with swarms of ravenous mutants. Mostly slime mutants that regenerate thanks to the radiation, Trogs living in the maintenance tunnels and HUGE insect/spider mutants preying on them from the surface. Deadly levels of radiation and noxious gas/slime/acid are the norm here.

A junkyard full of ruined cars, junk metal, broken items etc. Contains a machine for crushing cars into cubes. Cubes weigh plenty but have a much smaller volume than loose metal, being compacted. Might contain a garbage truck. Garbage trucks have trash compactors, which can be used to recycle metal. Infested with bandit NPCs

A rogue XEDRA installation. Still filled with living bio-operatives and soldiers clad in power-armor. Built into an otherwise inconspicuous building (Gas station bathroom, abandoned storefront, collapsed subway tunnel) you’d need to either be VERY perceptive or have found a hint to its existence elsewhere. Needless to say, they shoot on sight.

Nether Reef - A horrible ‘coral’ structure settled into a river/section of sewer like a blood clot. Nether Reefs are all that remains of the first monsters the portals belched forth and now shelter its lesser denizens from our harsh dimension. Absolutely packed with nether creatures. Might have an artifact at it’s core. Could spawn as a burned out variant instead that contains a detachment of XEDRA.

Deep cave system - A cavern that takes you all the way down to a magma sea (Much closer to the surface because reasons) Contains giant monsters and is very, very hot. Paradise for lizards. Chance to contain a sonic jackhammer or drivable drill.

Buried Temple - Can only be found with a new trog mutation (The ability to scout tiles through solid rock), high tech survey equipment or dumb luck. Must be mined into. Full of traps, ancient shoggoths and a deep Mi-go that howl utterly alien gibberish at you. Contains something REALLY good.

Flooded City - A city that has sunken into its own sewer system. Full of deadly fish/swimmer zombies.

Termite Mound - A large mound full of giant termites. Termites see perfectly in the dark and spit acid at you. More of a hazard than place you’d willingly go. Termites chew up buildings if left alone–kill their queen to stop more from spawning.

Colosseum - A re-purposed sports stadium turned Thunderdrome teeming with mad max style bandits. Works like the refuge center, but instead you can:
*Bet on fights
*Enter fights
*Sell your NPC companions into slaver
*Accept missions, usually revolving around the murder/enslavement of others.
-If you choose to fight you’ll be stripped naked and tossed into a pit littered with random weapons/armor and corpses. Placing a higher bet on yourself places you against more dangerous monsters or better armed NPCs.

Fortified subway - A subway tunnel clogged up by a dead train survivors have fortified. Acts much like a refuge center. Chance to spawn over-run by C.H.U.D.

pet store? Has dead animals and dog/cat food? eh?
An embassy, cause why not, maybe could have survivors, cause reasons.

just…please this is pure awesomeness…

This wouldn’t be a completely new building, but rather something to put in existing buildings.

Basically, a hidden staircase, which is blocked off by bookshelves or something that doesn’t allow you to see it directly, which then leads downwards into an illegal bionics chop-shop, which would have some bionics and burnt out bionics, and medical supplies, and possibly electronics spare parts. For added fun, give it a chance to have a rampaging cyborg or zombie bio-operator or something.

Logrin, you gotta learn to code man cause you’ve got too many awesome ideas and I don’t even know where to begin with them.

I dig the Bionics chop shop too, but I don’t know enough about basement gen to code it.

*Insert scared screeching noises* What kind of giant monsters?!

Zubats and Dugtrios

Pokemon in Cata, Eh, Maybe Pokemon are just Mutations of Animals?

This is the only bad idea you have! I love the other buildings!

Yeah, logrin pretty much listed what I was thinking which was factories and power plants. The rest of the stuff he suggested is awesome.

Single wide and double wide mobile homes/trailers?
Video game stores, would prolly fit under the umbrella of electronics store though.
Medical surplus stores. find things like rubber tubes or lab coats, but no drugs?

Also train stations and tracks for such.

Parking garages with barricaded entrances. Up the elevator, there are vehicles (mostly in good condition, protected from vandals) and zombies.

And stadiums. 3 squares wide at minimum. Contains refreshments and snacks, sports equipment, and athletic zombie brutes.

This is the only bad idea you have! I love the other buildings![/quote]
So because you don’t like it means it’s bad? I actually like the idea.

Failed Arcology - A self sustaining skyscraper gone haywire. Brimming with loot but manned by a hostile security system that will do its best to murder you. The entire time you’re in the building security robots will spawn, doors will lock/become electrocuted and sections of hallway will flood with deadly/flamable fumes. Getting to the core and disabling the A.I. will cease hostilities but successfully HACKING it will be worth the effort.

ToFarm - A futuristic clone farm that produces 100% humane meat from via vats of synthetic protein. The not-quite living bricks of livestock sized ‘meat’ left inside were somehow tainted by the infection and zombified. Clear out the shoggoth-like mass clogging the assembly line to stop more from spawning. Loot is mostly non-rotting imitation meat products but has a chance to contain a scaled down assembly meant for restaurants that converts protein shakes into the aforementioned snacks.

Brewery/Micro-Brewery - Basically a proper distillery/bottling plant and a scaled down basement version.

Roadhouse - A rough and tumble biker bar full of bandits.

Tenement Building - a slummy high-density apartment complex packed floor to ceiling with zeds. Terrible loot but has a chance to spawn drugs and other illegal items. Rarely contains a crackden/methlab
