I can use soap, detergent, liquid detergent, but washing soda doesn’t appear on the list to choose from, despite thousands of units around, some in box, some just lying on shelf.
Based on the description I think it’s used in glass work rather than cleaning filthy clothing. The hitchhiker’s guide lists it as a component in a few chemical recipes (as well as glass making). Washing Soda + Slaked Lime + water = lye, then lye + tallow/oil + water = soap bar.
