How do you cut down those tree trunks for planks and stuff?

I have a wood axe and a toolbox, what do I do about it exactly? All I wanna do is get more planks!

Press Shift + 8 or “*”.
Select “Chop Tree Trunk into Planks”.

Btw, “chop down a tree” is gone from construction menu, you have to activate axe now.
