So, going off an idea suggested by TheFlame52 in another thread, probably the first “suggestion” for removing items from the game but…
A way to remove obsolete, antiquated, or depreciated items from the game.
Catacylsm DDA is a game that is in ongoing development, as it stands items that are in the game stay in the game. Forever. TheFlame52 suggested the player be able to disassemble the item once an item has been depreciated. Expanding on that, give the players until the next ‘stable’ release to disassemble the item and remove it from their game before it’s deleted and they’re left with the “item not found”
It’s inevitably going to lead to at least one person going “Why do I have a bunch of ‘item not found’ in my inventory” but it’s probably worse to just let the game continue to bloat in size with loads of unused items. Save-breaking updates need to happen to keep from too many depreciated items flooding the lists.
One of the first items to go could be royal beef, as it is useless now that royal jelly isn’t a vegetable.
On another note, how could we remove crafting recipes? They will glitch up if the item they create doesn’t exist any more. I don’t know how we could remove them short of save editing.

I don’t think the game doesn’t have a shit if you just remove a recipe.

Correct. Nuking a recipe won’t break save compatibility. Removing an item can, which is why we got rid of the recipes and items that use pipe SMGs some time ago. Hoping that all the saves with 'em have died off by now.
We can phase out items as needed over the course of several releases, no problem. Items aren’t being pulled out of the game in droves mostly because we’re not interested in doing so.
I’m not clear what you’re actually suggesting.
You sure about that?
I had an item that transformed into an “undefined_item_id” or something like that when I changed from my internal version to mainline.
Anyway, I like the idea. Less items that do nothing is better.

If you were using pipe SMGs, sorry to hear that. But yeah, they’re gone now.
