Favorite base

Moose*
Zombmoose* (Or Zommoose, whichever)

Moose is plural, so it means one or more already.

I could not resist commenting on that…apologies

Zombie Jabberwocks anyone?

Jabberwocks are zombies. Dur

But do they rise again unless butchered?

Haven’t seen one since 0.8, so I can’t tell you in case they changed anything.

knock on wood

Knocks on wood desk expectantly

Garage, garage only!

I tend to keep a base until I can find/make a working electric motorcycle/tricycle. Because moving base is a PITA.

Kraft on a motorcycle, fighting off of jackals? Read books, firing zombie bears, break out the kitchen? No, it’s not my choice.

  1. Farm Near river - Unlimited water supply. Lots of food to start with. Free barbed wire fences. Lots of space for storage.

  2. Starting Shelter - Easily guarded, can have extensions added on and with the furniture disassembled lots of space.

  3. Science Lab top floor - Nice and safe. Supplies below ground. (How do you close the doors from inside? If you can)

You can’t close the door once it is open. What I do is push furniture into the opening to close it off, or if there isn’t furniture in the top floor lab rooms, I build walls out front/in front of the door and make a little twisty path that breaks LOS so wildlife doesn’t see me and wander in.

Uh… Don’t rivers spawn horendus amounts of bugs? Or is it just swamps? I dunno but becareful.

NPCs spawn hordenous amounts of bugs.
Swamps spawn GIANT nasty bugs. In large quanities.

Rivers are usually safe, but it’s swamps that you have to look out for.

Anyway, here are my favorite bases

  1. Any heavily armored vehicle with a bed. It’s nice to be able to take your home almost anywhere.
2 . Public Works. Usually nice and secluded, they can make good fortresses.
  2. LMOE Shelter. Very easy to defend and has an unlimited supply of water.

Won’t re-activating the terminal on the inside of the lab close the door?

Theoretically, for 100% self-sufficiency and survival, you need: Insect pheromones, Metabolic interchange, either of the water extraction bionics and Integrated Toolset. The first one allows you to live in an anthill safely, the latter three ensure that the only resource you need is ant corpses, and you’ve got an infinite supply of them without ever going above ground. Admittedly it wouldn’t make for a very interesting game, and I’ve never gotten all of those in a single run yet.
