Caravan mission

When I talk to the crop overseer on the ranch, he has a Caravan Commune-Refugee Center mission if I ask to invest in agriculture. I’m not quire sure what this mission entails. The previous mission in the list involves assigning an ally, which however that one also has “Assign Ally” in the name. So I’m not quite sure what would happen if I click on that. Is it something that I have to do on my own? Is it something that I need to assign an ally to?

The caravan is a companion mission, which means you assign an NPC ally to it. I wouldn’t do it - it is fairly risky, the combat algorithm for caravan missions is broken, and the pay is peanuts.

I’m working on fixing the pay and combat issues, but it’s going to be a long while before they get fixed.
