Atlatl or throwing balance could use some work

Just noticed today that atlatls are terribly under powered. They use throwing skill as their determining factor, my character is at level 5 in throwing. the atlatl throws a javalin 13 spaces and always seems to do between 3 and 8 points of damage consistently. When I throw the javalins by hand though, I hit for as low as 20 points, to as high as 47 points and the range remains relatively unchanged at 12 spaces.

I blame having balanced them with the range and damage of a character with no throwing skill and 8 strength. ._.

couldn’t it just work like the railgun cbm instead? Just flat increasing range?

That would be a useful feature if gun-type items could actually do that. >.>
