9mm ammo

Objection: what 9mm exploit? Killing turrets for 9mm? That was a specific change to their dropping all manner of ammo despite being SMG-equipped.

It’s pretty good against everything else, though.
I argue otherwise I have killed hulks a soldier Z’s no problems with my H&K MP5. Hulk I panicked because it was close range and burst fired it, it died to a single burst possibly not even a full one using standard 9mm I never use the other variants of 9mm.
Ah, I was thinking about the pistols. USP 9mm and the Glock 19 generally don’t seem to have enough penetration on a per shot basis for me. Yeah, it’s feasable with SMGs. I’ve even taken out hulks before with the Mac-10.
with a bit extra gunpowder you can change it to 9mm +p+ ammo that has a bit of armor penatration

MAC-10 fires the .45 though, doesn’t it? It should be easier to take out hulks with a MAC-10 than a 9mm, particularly if you’re loading FMJ.

I use 9mm when scavenging. Good ol’ Glock 19 does the job just fine as soon as someone or something gets too close. One or two shots.
Specialized handgun in my back pocket for anything armored, although a rifle would be a better choice.

Not so sure about a rifle: a M1911 do the job just fine and is smaller.

Although I for one currently use a Marlin39A with an attached M203 for armored targets. Sure, it’s not the most efficient load-out (especially since my laser finger CBM can take down armored enemies), but rule of cool man.

then is it the Tec-9 that uses 9mm? I really can’t remember. Not seen one in a long while.

I think the main issue is the amount of ammo they drop, considering that they do explode on death there shouldn’t be such a large amount of in-tact ammo.
As it is, a 9mm gun is too viable in comparison to other guns as far as sustainability goes, it’s nearly impossible to run out of ammo after a few weeks even if you run directly into the town square and start burst firing away until zombies stop showing up.

Sure is, Iosyn.
But it’s more of a machine pistol than a full on SMG. Grumble grumble…

Yea its the TEC-9 that uses 9mm ammo.

yeah, that’s true. a TEC-9 is much closer to a pistol like the M1911 in weight than it is to a real SMG, like an Uzi or a MP5.

Frankly I think you guys are nuts for using any gun other than a law. They are loud as hell.

Flamethrowers are pretty quiet, and on static spawn noise isn’t nearly as important as on dynamic.

Don’t they create explosions on impact? At least my character seems to hear it.

I know the initial shot is fairly quiet. The impact is a 3x3 fire explosion but I’m not sure it makes sound on the same scale as a grenade.

Plus, it gives away the explosions’ position, not yours.

Just destroyed a dozen turrets, about half of them dropped in excess of 200 9mm bullets each, seems a bit excessive to get 1500 bullets off of a single location with basically no risk. Turrets ought to be harder to kill, drop less loot, or have Infrared Vision, right now you can sneak around at night with a bag of rocks and barely risk getting shot at all.

I’m also finding that using a 9mm SMG and farming turrets for ammunition makes the game laughably easy. Dynamic or static spawn, makes very little difference. There’s no reason ever to use a melee weapon again once you have several thousand rounds of 9mm available to you. With a bit of skill you’re deadly accurate and blindingly quick with a firearm, and nothing can get close to you - you can more or less drive into the middle of a town and hold down the F button until the screen is clogged with corpses and the game has nothing left to throw at you.

I noticed people saying that 9mm isn’t strong enough to kill certain things, but I’m not seeing it. I’ve slaughtered everything from hulks and soldiers to vinebeasts with ease using an MP5. But if armor penetration were really an issue with stock 9mm ammunition, you could simply recraft it into 9mm +P+. Since you can get an arbitrary amount of 9mm, you can also get an arbitrary amount of 9mm +P+.

+P+ is lovely, although recrafting to get it can become time intensive… you’ll burn pretty much an entire game day to make 1000 rounds.

Another theoretically decent SMG option getting ignored is the retooled H&K UMP45 (better damage) or TDI Vector (bigger bursts and lowest recoil of any firearm). A 9mm retool only carries a whopping -1 damage penalty, and both guns have considerably better accuracy than any other SMG. At 8 skill I suppose that wouldn`t mean much, but more casual users (or those with an irrational reluctance to expend ammo) may find them valuable.

ed: On second thought, sod the pipe rifle. If you want a one-off weapon made of cheap junk, pipe bomb it up.

Yeah, must have been the TEC-9 I took that hulk out with then. Trigger happy emptied the entire magazine, took out the hulk and a few zeds behind it. Who says trigger happy is a negative perk, eh? :stuck_out_tongue:

A LAW isn’t a gun, though.
I keep finding them everywhere too, it’s annoying. it’s like the game is tempting me to blow myself up even more instead of just handing me a few helmets and army pants.

Actually, new strategy. Pick up all LAWs I find and become the LAW.

Im going to try to chamber my Vector I found today with the rechambering tool if I find one. I quite like the gun in real life and other video games. same with the UMP

But maby not I have a Glock 19 and at level 3 I seem to be headshoting and 1 hit killing almost everything.
I took out a Zombie cop in one headshot and 3 shots took a brute.
